Not so 'Simple Delivery'

It would appear that eBay 'Simple Delivery' announced with great fanfare by eBay over the preceding weeks, is not actually effective for ALL private seller listings as of 15/4/25.

I just had a chat with eBay Support whom advise new listings will be 'ramped' into simple delivery from 15/4/25 and that existing listings will be phased in from 23/4/25 and fully implemented by 28/4/25!

Why don't you tell us that eBay in your elaborate simple delivery news release?

I think the real truth is that eBay over burdened themselves with the task at hand.

Re: Not so 'Simple Delivery'

I have today sent an extensive Email t0 Eve Williams, complaining about all
the issues affecting eBay Sellers, i.e. Simple Delivery / Buyer Protection
Fee / Delays In Payments, referring her to the many messages posted on the
Community Forum. So, let's hope it has some impact.

Re: Not so 'Simple Delivery'

I have just now sold an item on Ebay, for 99p, listed with the old postage system by opting out of Simple Delivery, as Ebay says you are allowed to do for items under £5.00, apparently! And I was given that option on my listing page.  Only to discover just now that Ebay  had first changed the postage costs, which I set at £2.90 for RM tracked  48 on my live listed item, to £2.72!?? A figure that doesn’t even make sense. Then, when it sold, they only charged the buyer £2.27! Which I know will not cover the cost of a large letter tracked 48 Royal Mail parcel. And isn’t even the amount they themselves put in my live listing!  THEN, I have to click a link on the order details page, to purchase a label for this parcel without being told what kind of label it is, or how much it will cost!! How is any of this anything but insanity!  I called Ebay and they assured me that the £2.27 will cover large letter post Becuase they negotiated a good deal with Royal Mail! I know this can’t be true! They have negotiated large letter post to £2.70.  Not £2.27. And if I use that label, the Post Office will tell me it isn’t sufficient and I will then have to pay more myself to send it!  So nothing about the way they are doing this is in anyway useable or acceptable to a seller of smaller cheaper items.
All the rep I talked to could offer me was a promise to pass on my complaint, and a suggestion to add the cost of postage differences to my listed items. Which really doesn’t help if Ebay are then providing incorrect , wrongly charged,  postage labels for my parcels. And changing the postage I do quote on my listings without even telling me!!  I think I am about to be done with Ebay.

Re: Not so 'Simple Delivery'

If you look in order details, you should see the price the buyer paid for postage, then immediately beneath that, the VAT charged to the buyer.  The 2 amounts, 2.27 + .45 make up the correct price of 2.72.

Simple Delivery is now mandatory for almost all the items private sellers list.  (Although, randomly, not for jewellery yet.)

You look like quite a successful seller so don't be too hasty about leaving.  I did consider it but the thought of having to learn how to use a different site persuaded me to stay.

Re: Not so 'Simple Delivery'

Other options for shifting items smaller items

Vinted - I have no experience, as I do not want another system to learn

Facebook Marketplace - Smaller and more local, but plenty of time wasters on the "Is this item still available?"

Gumtree - Seems dead and buried

CEX - Will give you 2pm or something for an item

Carboot - What a drag, but you'll get more than CEX, but risk taking items home again.

Re: Not so 'Simple Delivery'

I might start listing some non-jewellery items in jewellery then, just to see what happens
