I sold an item on freepost but to my horror ebay deducted £2.70 from my balance for a label I didn't use because it only needed to be £1.55 for L letter so I bought the correct label from RM & sent item with that. To make matters worse I only got paid 2.49 for the item. I filled in a refund form in July (within 14 days) but still haven't received refund. (I used the form someone posted on here)
To stop this happening again I have changed all my items from freepost & just charge post on top so I can now buy correct label when an item sells.
Is this a sneaky way that ebay is making money from unused postage labels because a lot of sellers must be having the same problem?

Sadly, with SD you only get 2 options:
1. Do it Ebay's way or
2. Stop selling
Yes, you have been punished and Ebay keeps the spoils. But if you DID want to continue selling I'd recommend updating your listings so that buyer pays postage (I see you've done this now).
Doing this ensures both (1) you receive the item price you wanted and (2) buyer is not clobbered for buyer fees on top of the postage. Which, as you've spotted, is already prohibitive under SD. Good luck!

The postage you buy yourself has to be tracked in order to get a refund for the SD label.

But they forced me to buy tracked postage for L letter in first place so what's the point of that? Or did they force me if the item was less than 100g which it was. So what happens to the unused label - who has the money ebay or royal mail so I know who to claim it off? this is completely unfair ebay you charged me for a 1kg large letter when the item was less than 100g. Can't anyone here see that is wrong?
Simple delivery -- really?
Also the buyer only lived 16 miles away

I thought I would get a refund so I bought a separate £1.55 label from RM but you say I cannot get a refund if I used that. The buyer received the item else they'd have complained so I've basically paid £4.25 to post a 2nd class L letter so lost £1.76. just another ebay scam.

You have no contract with Royal Mail so you won't be able to claim anything from them.

Before buying an untracked label you should have checked the refund conditions.

I don't have the time to read their boring T&Cs & & it strains my eyes so I'm punished for that so greedy ebay keep the money. Problem is it's hard to recoup the money on here as I hardly sell anything on ebay now thanks to their geeky sneaky changes with the searches

I just realised that you have to apply the correct size/ weight on each listing to get the correct postage for SD but a lot of others are being caught out by this trap that I think ebay set deliberately

No that's wrong I just found out that SD is tracked only yet I can still buy normal 2nd class labels from ebay. This is so confusing - I'm too old for this game.

If your item sells with SD you will get a label immediately, either paid for by the buyer or deducted from your sale proceeds. So you shouldn't be directed to buy separate postage through Ebay at all. Getting a refund from Ebay for any unused label can be a major faff.

If you don't use the Simple Delivery label provided, you or your buyer will be refunded, depending on who paid for postage.
To process your refund, we'll verify the following:
If your request meets all these conditions, you'll receive a refund for the shipping cost.

Yep it's a scam they have made it harder and harder to make freepost and they will use evri that are the worst delivery service at any turn .
And this buyer protection fee it's a scam the bank of England had to pay back billions after making a buyer protection fee and car finance tryed that aswell and are having to pay back millions
