Do you have a link where it shows the new prices, I have looked everywhere and can't find anything, as I am a private seller also so need to know what buyers will be charged but I did have a read of the policy page, has anyone else bothered to read this?
Has it been officially said that it will become mandatory in a seller announcement? Because from it states below is you can opt to not use it at all in future.
Of course policies can change but why even add that you can opt out and not use it all in the future? To me that states it will not be mandatory.
Until there is an official announcement in eBay and also sent by email I would not worry about this, there is no saying it won't be mandatory but I wouldn't expect them to just give sellers a date to try and adjust, I think it will be more a gradual thing if ever at all.
If eBay try and impose these you can use the page below as reference.
You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.
Keep in mind that if you opt out, you won't benefit from the enhanced cover for loss or damage to the item during transit offered by Simple Delivery.
And also.
At checkout your buyer is charged for the delivery cost and the amount is then paid to eBay for the label. If you decide not to use the prepaid label, you'll need to purchase your own label instead at your own cost.
Of course with that you will be losing out due to the postage being paid by the seller and also the buyer.

Here are the new prices:
Apparently the CEO has said that they expect to make it mandatory by the end of the first quarter of 2025. We'll just have to wait and see.

It's ok for parcels but completely useless for letters or large letters up to 500g. Who's going to pay £2.70 postage for something that can be sent for 85p? If they can't do it properly for smaller items then they really shouldn't be forcing it on items below 750g. But I'm sure they'll just blunder on regardless.

We send everything at £2.70 even items at £4.99, we have to send tracked no matter what, we can send a large letter for less than 85p on a business price but too many items go missing well allegedly they do and we get no cover from RM so would have to take the loss when a INR is opened against us.
Even when I sell privately, I would rather lose a few quid than give someone the satisfaction of getting a free item.

@game_raid eBay has not made any public announcements to sellers about it or updated their policy pages yet, but CEO Jamie Iannone said it in the Q3 2024 earnings call and statements made by the CEO of a publicly traded company during earnings calls are in fact "official comms" and should be taken as such by both investors and the company's customer-base unless/until additional "official comms" to the contrary are made publicly available.
Here's what Iannone said at the end of October, and for additional background this was part of his prepared remarks, not an off the cuff answer to analysts in the Q&A segment - which means this part of the presentation would have been scripted in advance and reviewed by legal, compliance, investor relations and other relevant internal stakeholders before the call.

With managed shipping, we are completely overhauling our shipping experience for C2C sellers in the UK in two phases. The first phase completed in early October, extended the simplified shipping experience we first rolled out in pre-owned apparel to all categories. Within the new native listing flow, UK C2C sellers now see a consolidated list of shipping options based on the estimated package size and weight. And since implementing this change, we have observed a significant reduction in time spent on shipping in a listing flow.
The second phase of managed shipping; radically simplifies the experience and creates a new revenue stream for eBay. Similar to managed payments and eBay international shipping, Managed shipping leverages our scale and expertise to create a better experience for customers while generating incremental revenue and operating income dollars. When listing eligible products sellers simply confirm the pre-selected package size and eBay handles the rest.
Buyers received competitive shipping rates and sellers are fully protected against loss or damage. Managed shipping is currently live for C2C pre-owned apparel listing in the UK. In Q4, we plan to expand managed shipping horizontally on an opt-out basis, before mandating the program for eligible items listed by C2C sellers during Q1 of 2025.
If that transcript link is behind a paywall or you would prefer to listen to the recording of the call to hear it yourself, I posted instructions for how to find the replay here: https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/Will-2pm-Wednesday-chat-go-ballistic-over-mandatory-S...

Having read that link I am not clear on who the courier/s will be.
Taking the current Packlink pricing as a guide, I take it the 750g large letter is Royal Mail Tracked 48, 0-1kg is Evri, 1-2kg is Yodel, and the higher weights are god knows who as they don’t line up with any current pricing.
Does anyone know what eBay class as a large letter? Are they going off the Royal Mail limit of 35.3x25x2.5cm?

As the new prices published only refer to large letters and parcels it would appear that anything being sent standard letter size won't be eligible for Simple Delivery.

The wording of the line below the pricing table is interesting:
'Different pricing may apply where you have chosen to opt-out of a carrier.'
That would seem to imply that there will be an option for sellers to opt-out of a carrier they don't wish to use.

I assume eBay will only offer what they consider “appropriate” options applicable to the item if the seller has input the size (dimension and weight) of the item?
I wonder what delivery options and prices eBay will offer if the seller doesn’t input such information?
And then combined purchases where the weight and/or value affects the, now inappropriate, original choice?

I am selling my collection of glass The only way to post and have insurance is by next day 9am or 1300 signed delivery by Royal mail
but as Ebay are saying they will cover damage and loss how will this work on something like glass which couriers wont insure?
I am not going to sell anymore at the moment until I know what is happening but that will mean that I wont buy other items from Ebay either

There won't be letter only Large Letter tracked at £2.70 from what i understand so it's goodbye from thousands of us i think. Who's going to buy a £2 postcard or other small item for £2.70 delivery and 75p +4%.
01-02-2025 7:40 PM
That is absolutely crazy. If I'm reading it right, it's saying that the buyer will always pay for delivery but, if the seller has opted out, eBay will trouser the delivery money and the seller pays for the label?
01-02-2025 7:42 PM
If you opt out it's as normal...i hope...but nothing would surprise me
01-02-2025 7:55 PM
I will probably choose to opt out of simple delivery, at the beginning at least. I understand this is an option with the creation of new listings. But what happens with existing listings, will it be automatically added ? In other words, do I need to end all my listings in the next few days ? if I don't want simple delivery as an option.
01-02-2025 9:48 PM
It looks as though you can leave them as they are, no need to end listings:

I'm also trying to work out what the options are when it comes to combining postage for multiple purchases. I would always look to combine and get the postage as close to what I actually pay. It seems though that with this the buyer has to accept whatever eBay decides to charge rather than what it actually costs. I'm struggling at the moment to find somewhere where I can see what eBay is charging.
