Well, if this experience is anything to go by, I'll be off in a heartbeat. This is a mistake through and through.

Hmmm. Research beckons, methinks. Any suggestions to aid that would be appreciated.

The 1-2kg cost of £3.71 is poor. I could use Royal Mail Tracked 48 for £3.39 and get 10% cashback through Parcel2Go.

That’s not true. My husband has just tried to sell a cloth patch which would normally be sent by 2nd class letter and has been unable to deselect Simple Delivery. He has deleted the listing rather than charge £2.70 for Simple Delivery.

You have to opt out when you list the item.
If you look at my cheaper listings, I am still offering Second Class Large Letter. Some items were relisted this week.

That’s not the case here. He selected Custom Delivery and set a postage price, but EBay overrode it to Simple Delivery when it was actually listed.

For those following along, CEO Jamie Iannone just said Simple Delivery Mandate is being pushed to Q2.

I'm not sure that eBay even know if this is going to happen. I was unable to opt out using the Postage preferences in my account so I decided to contact eBay via chat and this is the (amended) conversation:
Me: "Is simple delivery going to be mandatory?"
Reply: "I understand the concern in regards with the simple delivery , be assured, that the simple delivery is not mandatory and won't be mandatory in the future"
Me: "ok, then someone from ebay needs to go to the community pages and post this as an official message because everybody says it will be mandatory this 2nd quarter."
Reply: "There is nothing to worry at all, this is a new update so there are few issues, however, I will get this highlighted and get this done. Thank you for sharing this."
Lets see if an official announcement is made.

It has seemed to me for some time now, that ebay are moving away from private sales, possibly towards the Amazon model. Every new rewrite of terms and conditions seems to complicate what used to be straight forward and intuitive, as far as selling is concerned.
My recent problem involved a German customer, who was unable to complete the purchase. (I have not sold to Germany for several years). There were no postage rates visible.
After lengthy telephone discussions to the help centre, trying out various jigging and rejigging postage rates, no solution seemed to be forthcoming, other than I should try a new, parallel listing, which might work. It had exactly the same problems. I noticed that everytime I adjusted something, one second later, the boxes reverted to a default entry, and no postage rates. I combed through my account details until I found I was subscribed to the Global Shipping Program, (news to me). Nothing to lose, I deleted it. Magic!! Within minutes, postage rates visible, sale completed.

Simple Delivery must be the most inappropriate name ever!
When I create a listing - have to create a complete new one because "Sell Similar" has an issue currently according to their customer service - I can not find any way to see what postal costs will be at the time of listing. I can see 5 or more different RM delivery options but with no price against them how do I know which one to select?
Customer Services cannot see any prices either, so this is not "user error". Their agent did agree that a seller needs to see what the delivery cost will be in order to determine the price to set for an item if offering free postage. That agent has given up and promised to find out and call me back when he gets the information. I am not holding my breath, but will update if I do eventually get a call back.
I have been an eBay user for 22 years - but this definitely feels like the end of the road. Unfortunately I don't think the buyers will move to a new platform as quickly so not sure what the future really looks like.

I've been using sell similar will check what it's like now

Seems ok change to advanced options custom postage, still shows the RM postage i put in
22-03-2025 3:27 PM
@parsley2003 I did change to Advanced Options and could then see a whole long list of options. Just couldn't see the price for each of those options. Do you see something different?

Simple delivery doesn’t show any prices at all
you can see them if you use custom postage and click advanced options twice
on the first link and then continue with advanced options where it prompts you to use special delivery lol even though you’ve chosen custom

Customer Service have still not called me back with an answer to the question "At the time of listing, how can I see what the actual postage cost will be in order to select the most economic option?
However to avoid confusion I think I need to be clearer about the issue as I see it.
I have always offered free delivery and incorporated the actual shipping costs into the price I set for each item so the points below are based on me trying to replicate this under the new system.
1. When I use SD I get the option to select Buyer pays or Seller pays. As the costs displayed for the two are different I conclude that this is not the actual cost of the shipping label because RM and Evri can't possibly care who is paying. This is what eBay will charge the buyer/seller depending on how the seller sets their listing.
2. Using SD as above these prices say the rates the buyer will pay will 'start from" the amount stated. Fixed price if the seller is paying. Not sure what the purpose of this statement isI just note it is different for the two options.
3.Switching to Advanced options and ignoring the offer to remain with SD and the spurious benefits they claim it offers) I can see all of the familiar shipping options listed (not just Evri and RM). These look pretty much as they used to, EXCEPT the price is not listed. Of course, how could it be? I have not had the option to add size or weight up to this point and this is crucial to determine the charges. For example I can select
Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For
1 - 2 working days1 to 2 business days
0 - 20 kg, Max. 61 x 46 x 46 cm
Tracking included: Yes
Compensation included: Yes
We all know there is not a single price for a parcel of 500g and one of 19.9kg. No wonder no price is displayed. I have no intention of creating an actual listing to see whether this information is collected once I have sold.
Sorry to bang on about this but it is really bugging me. As I see it eBay are asking us to commit to buying something without telling us the price. Is that even legal? I refer you to Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. In this I consider myself to be the consumer of the shipping service eBay provides. I am not a lawyer and will not be saying more at this point. Others with more experience in the field may wish to take this further.

Simple Delivery - a misnomer if ever there was one - is to become mandatory for all Private Sellers from 15th April!
All new and current listings will be automatically updated to take this into account, and be altered by eBay, from that same date! So you either need to sell everything before the 15th, or watch your listings very closely!
Also, be warned, that if you choose to opt out of offering one of eBay's Simple Delivery postage companies (e.g. if you refuse to use EvriParcelNicked), you'll be charged a higher postage rate! This is absolutely f***ing sneaky and devious, and potentially illegal in my view! In essence, eBay are penalising you if you don't offer to send stuff with EvriParcelNicked!
This is NOT remotely good news for Private Sellers, and honestly, I think all of us need to organise a stand against this!

There was a BBC radio programme today about this and a seller was on it Action Man has been banned from here for posting about it. This will all be big news soon. Trustpilot will be even more interesting now

According to this ebay will start updating existing/live listing with simple delivery from 7th April:
