Negative review even though item worked and I sent a full refund

What are buyers allowed to leave negative reviews even when the item worked but they ordered the wrong thing. I sent a full refund and they are delaying returning the item. They bought a 8GB memory stick from me - then wrote to say it worked in computers but not PS4 - he actually needed a 250GB. I paid a full refund but they have delayed returning the item - still not got it back. Then they leave a negative review.

Abuyer can leave a negative feedback that reflects their  buying experiance which your buyer has done - there is nothing derogatory in the buyers comment other than a factual description of what happened - in fact as negative comments go - it is quite polite and positive.

Having said this - the buyer has confirmed they have posted the item back to you and there is no reason to disbelieve them.

I do ask why are you making such a fuss for an item that sold for £1.13 including 14p buyers fee - the cost of providing a return label that is trackable would outweigh the value of the goods - you are responsible for the return label / cost ! (unless the buyer returned as their buying mistake)

Sometimes you just have to stand back and if you had done the logical thing and apologised - refunded the buyer and told them to keep the 99p item as soon as the buyer contacted you  - you would possibly have received positive feedback.

Or you could have asked them to open an official return - although for 99p is it worth the effort?

If the buyer made a mistake and it was through the mbg then you would not have to refund until the item was returned tracked and any negative feedback would be removed.

ebay have seller protection and a structure to avoid even this very minor problem.

You cannot name and shame a buyer on the boards.

The question is, why did you refund them before the buyer returned the item?

I’ve never got this mistake and you see it so often.

theres a really simple real world logic to understand this. If you rang up Curry’s because you wanted to return a TV. Would they refund you and hope you returned in?

Good Evening Pecan

Do not refund a buyer until you have the item back. For future reference,if it happens again, tell your buyer to open an official eBay case.

All of that said it's not worth the fuss over 0.99p. The best way to have tackled this was to apologise and refund and tell the buyer to do as they wish with the item. In other words write it off.

Additionally you have mentioned/identified your buyer which is something that you can't do, it is against eBay's rules.
