NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

noooo🤣🤣..... changed a non SD item to SD as cheaper for buyer it now appears on my active list under postage as 'collection in person only'................. where is the £3.71 ????? The listing thankfully shows postage not collection.  Maybe ebay servers are in meltdown.

All fixed now.

According to some posts in threads car boot sales were really busier than expected this last weekend. They might be the next competition lol. A good UK tradition back in fashion.

I know. I've got quite a few padded envelopes that I hope have a good long use by shelf date. Plus the thought of a nice day and communication with actual people and not bots is really appealing.

Yeah I'm now sat on bunch of bubble packed mailers, vinyl mailers and bubble wrap.

I'll probably just list them on the market place at a low price to get rid.

I might cut off the edges and corners and stick some in a old pillow case lol. I've also decided to give a couple of car boot sales a try because it can't be no worse than my last 2-3 months of selling here. Plus according to some threads on here they were much busier than anyone expected this last weekend.

To be fair the weather has been great.

As a buyer I am enjoying the expanded choice now ebay have pushed me to signup elsewhere.

I've also been more relaxed this week in a long time - no pressure from stuff keep selling as I had reduced prices to accommodate the buyer tax.

However I've still got stuff to sell and it'll take time to list them elsewhere but I expect my existing paused listings on ebay will soon be so broken I wouldn't want to use them anyway.

JUST HAD AN EMAIL FROM EBAY ASKING WHAT I THOUGHT OF THE SIMPLE DELIVERY SYSTEM AND WHY I HADN'T USED THE SD LABEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

" MY REPLY WAS WRITTEN ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND HANDED TO THE JUDGE"😉

WASN'T THAT IN A RONNIE BARKER SKETCH???

That's true about the weather. I'm enjoying looking at other options too. But it is only the start of car boot season and for even organisers to be surprised at the numbers a few days ago could be the start of the revival of a good UK tradition. Fresh air and human interaction can't be a bad thing.

Now that made me laugh. Sunshine and laughter early in the day while looking for when my next local car boot sale is happening lol.

I used to love car boots but my hayfever can make it difficult, my kids always want to buy clutter (ok it's subjective and part of them learning....) and I'm old enough that the things I might want are not longer so easy to find without going online.

I've not been to a car boot sale in years. I loved them too but they declined so badly. Hopefully things happening like here for example might be their revival. Plus I'd only need to sell 3 or 4 things to equal what my sales have been here for the last 3 months lol.

I know the hay fever thing hits me too and your right about the Internet is the best way to source things. Plus our weather is so unpredictable it's a nightmare. I just love the thought of going to a few car boot sales again. I loved that at times you could come across some great things too.

Unlike ebay, nobody has heard of it, so there's no "passing trade" from people who like to browse.

That will probably change as a result of ebay's sudden unpopularity, but until then it's only really suitable as a shop front for fixed price (i.e. "buy it now / make offer") items.

For example if you have a website or social media channel and want a sales platform. Like an ebay shop, but much nicer to use.

That's their Catch 22.  Someone earlier said that they weren't interested in using other sites because they don't have the audience that ebay has.  But they never will have if no-one is willing to take the obvious risk of slower sales on a smaller site.

I've been saying for years that private sellers make a site viable if it can get enough of them.  They don't have the pressures of needing high / quick turnover to survive as a business.  The other site has survived for 20+ years, IMO, largely on the sales of postcards and stamps, although lately a growth area seems to have been magazines and comics.

For the last few years my sales there have been consistently better than on ebay, albeit selling in a Collectables niche.  I don't use Social Media and the site never advertises itself, but buyers do find me and buy stuff.

Their dilemma is either raise capital to advertise, get swamped by businesses looking for a cheap outlet and end up like ebay.  Top heavy with businesses, high fees because the 'backers' demand returns on their money and the cost of running the sophisticated site that businesses demand to increase their profits.

Or remain small, cheap and easy to use as a basic site suitable for the "List it - Sell it - Get paid" attitude of private sellers.  I find it more relaxed and pleasant to use, probably because I'm not constantly pushed to the back of the visibility queue by full-time sellers who have the time/knowledge and resources to do so.

@akemp1  mentioned that it is "20 year old technology".  I wonder if that's such a bad thing considering that one consistent complaint about ebay is its rubbish search.  20 years ago is pre-Cassini and key-word based as I've also been saying for years, I get sales there because buyers can find my stuff, unlike on ebay where without a degree in SEO plus a hefty bribe my stuff is at the back of the shelf and rarely seen.

Great post and very true. Plus smaller sites have a good kind of community feel which the changes here really are ruining.

I posted my last parcel this morning and noticed that the PO was festooned with new banners announcing their deals with DPD and EVRI for posting and collection hub!

well they have 120 less to change as i am off now.  Mind you i feel a bit out of place at the moment with no sales to check up on or post etc.  Then again i will enjoy the rest until i decide where to go next but i will only be doing select items, everything else will be car boot.

probably put them where the closed cafes were!  They are another firm going downhill rapidly.  I used to shop with them and would travel the extra miles to do so, now i pop in if i have to go into town, usually about once every 6/8 weeks and i do not spend anyway nearly as much on a shop there.
