AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

The royal mail delivery office usually don't weigh items. I find their opening hours are generally early in the day though.

With the cardboard envelope the packet wouldn't fit through the letter box opening in the Template He scanned the QR code and it came up as LARGE LETTER. So he said I would need to purchase a SMALL PARCEL label If i had been posting it as I normally did.... I would have just paid the extra BUT he wanted me to purchase a new label. at £4.05..The book was only sold for £10 So WHY do I need to pay for a Tracked item??? I'm automatically covered up to £20. by just sending it ordinary mail with a Certificate of Posting????

'So he said I would need to purchase a SMALL PARCEL label...'
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the guy in the post office doesn't know the rules.
I'd go to another post office! Hopefully they'd have more knowledge of the new 'Marketplace seller' rule-book....
'So WHY do I need to pay for a Tracked item???'

Because it's Simple Delivery, with it's 'non-delivered refund' promise.
Without tracking numbers, dodgy sellers would claim to have posted things when they haven't. Ebay would refund the buyer and the seller would still have the item.

List the item at over £750. This takes it out of simple delivery and gives you other delivery options. Then reduce the price to where you want it and you're stil not using simple delivery.

this was a workaround given to me by ebay customer service............but it doesn't work.

They do work.
I have devised two versions - use whichever is applicable to your listing format. Follow them EXACTLY:
Original
Updated

I've read multiple threads and posts on simple delivery and I'm still utterly lost. It does not matter what item I go to create a listing for - stamps, teeny tiny books measuring 5cm by 4cm by 0.5cm, are some of the examples I've tried - the smallest option I get is large letter.
Additionally, if buyer pays the price is £2.70, but if seller pays the price is £3.42 - what on earth is up with that?
Everything I sell is stuff I've had for years around the house or in my shed. Stuff that I thought was interesting or potentially useful for a project I failed to begin, which I'm sure is likely similar for a large portion of private sellers. Most of what I sell if small and of little value, so postage and the prior 15% sellers fee worked fine felt more than reasonable, however, Simple Delivery has killed that for small value items as it makes absolutely no sense to sell low value items are you are practically giving them away.
I'm just a bit despondent to this as I genuinely do like selling on eBay and it has been a great way to earn some extra pounds, but overnight I now have items that are no longer viable, and I'll either need to find an alternative platform, or simple give them away.

Known glitch, fooled me too.
Make sure you enter the item price & select the package size/weight first, both prices should then be the same.

The smallest option available with Simple Delivery is large letter, but some small, light items priced under £20 can be sent using the Custom postage option, so you can still choose options like Royal Mail 1st & 2nd Class Letter for those items.
It might be worth checking out the categories that are exempt from Simple Delivery. 😊

A lot of the points of view are from users who haven't even attempted to use SD. I prefer to try something out myself and make up my own mind.
No fees for private sellers on postage costs.
SD can be avoided completely by using postage policies
What are the other issues you have?

I tried using the simple delivery and it charged me more than what I could have sent the item via InPost...with no better quality of service
So no, I absolutely don't like SD especially when the choice is taken away...even with Evri it was cheaper to use Parcel2Go.

I have decided not to sell as for me Ebay have damaged my confident in their platform as SD takes away my ability to control postage and hand customer issues directly . I also choose to not sell as the heavy handed way Ebay enforced this change has damaged my trust in Ebay. Both very good reasons to suspend doing business with Ebay
I have no issues with anyone who chooses still to sell and even to the point that they feel it works for them but please respect why so many sellers have genuine issues with what Ebay have done, we simply are just not complaining !

And that's fine for you, but I would have thought it was obvious that what works for you doesn't work for everybody. Some of us prefer to avoid risking the problems that other people have encountered on this and multiple other threads. I'm not sure why you seem to have a problem with people learning lessons from others in order to avoid similar situations.

Again, that's fair enough. If you've tried SD and found it works for you, all well and good.
I've made my other issues plain on earlier pages and nothing I've yet seen has changed them. I only keep up with the thread to see if ebay has made any concessions that would allay them.
So far they haven't.

Sold a few items on my new private account this week, not enjoying the SD at all after being used to being able to control how my orders are posted to customers.
What's especially annoying is having to take them somewhere to be collected, we have daily collections from Royal Mail and ParcelForce so total waste of my time.

Ebay seem to have shot themselves in the foot through greed and arbitrary changes to their original selling model which actually worked. Also a hopeless lack of contactability makes it's near impossible to resolve any issue without AI involvement, really had enough and won't be using them any more.

There might be no fees on postage costs for private sellers, BUT Simple Delivery DOES NOT work for everyone. Maybe it works for you, but not all private sellers can get to a post office or have a printer due to age or disability.
I use RM bring a label doorstep collection, and will not pay more than the RM online cost just because I will only use RM.
If a buyer trys to scam me I want to have a good degree of control over the situation. I know what postal choice works best for me, better than ebay or SD.
I've created dummy listings and Simple Delivery is not a viable option.
That's why I have issues with it.
28-10-2025 12:22 PM
Your post is spot on.
There is no way ebay or SD will make the best, or common sense choice for a private seller.
The 2 worst things that have happened here are introducing the "free to sell" and, Simple Delivery.
Sellers Fees were transparent, and private sellers choosing the best postal options worked.
I do not need to be totally controlled to know what's best for me.
I've enough life experience and enough common sense to make sensible choices and decisions.

The Simple Delivery prices are currently cheaper than the Royal Mail online prices for Tracked, even with Evri excluded, and collection is free.
