NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Secure transactions - surely that should be part and parcel of the whole online selling experience? Also something that i am pretty sure was happening already!

I refer you to my car analogy.

its not irrelevant.

You are suggesting (as was the poster I replied to) that ebay made payments secure - and then NEVER have to do anything to maintain that security, so never need any more money to maintain security. Would that be accurate? Maintenance must be paid for. We'd all be complaining if ebay ended up in a Co-op/JLR/M&S situation right and found out they'd not done any security maintenance in the last 2 years.

Point 3 I agree with.

'Risk monitoring and fraud detection' is a joke. When you report something dubious or misleading to eBay they do nothing whatsoever, every time, because they get a lot of income from the hordes of sellers offering dodgy stuff in China, many purporting to be in the UK.

Your obsession with defending ebay at every turn is blinding you to the fact that the issue is not that ebay charges a fee in order to run the web site, but that it has chosen the ill-advised term “Protection” in order to try and justify it.  The sellers fee was removed on 1st Oct 2024 and the buyers fee was introduced on 4th Feb 2025.  Everybody except the most dedicated ebay apologist can see that it’s just been a straight transfer of fee from seller to buyer, and absolutely nothing to do with “protection” which is simply a word that has been added to try and convince gullible people that they’re getting something worth having.

I do not defend ebay at every turn.

I am defending the fact that ebay have to pay for things. And the fact that people do tend to make up what the term 'Protection' actually means. I agree that its a poorly named service. But ebay aren't exactly hiding what it includes! It might be vague of course, but Its worth noting they don't tell you what the busines seller Final Value Fees pay for at all!

Perhaps the fees pay for running the website, after all, as business, you know they have to cover their costs somehow...

Nothing significant on Ebay's explanation of BPF is specific to why a buyer has to pay BPF is specific to BPF they are all long standing generic operational  business requirement with perhaps the exception of 24/7 helpline .  But in the context of buyers who have to wait few days before they receive an item then what is the need for an instant 24/7 help desk  when to do the job probably communication needs to be made with the buyer , courier etc who are safely tucked up in bed.  As  customer if there are issues than I want Ebay to make the correct decision and not a hasty decision that will create other issues .

It's one thing forcing SD onto long term sellers who are clearly more proficient at managing their own postage than Ebay , but blatantly lying to customers as to why they have to pay  a PROTECTION fee is insult to everyone's intelligence that with proper leadership should not have been allowed to happen. It is monumentally bad.

Ebay and others believe they will get away with BPF as the charge is small and spread across buyers and so in reality are unlikely to take action , however it is potentially open to a class action ,if someone is prepared to champion it etc .  Probably more likely if this ever hits the USA.

To me as a long term customer it is perhaps worse than SD  as  of my long term customer ethos is avoid doing business who tell  bare faced lies, whenever possible  .   What Ebay is saying is dishonest and they need to wake up to it !

I'll repeat what I said because you haven't taken it on board:

"Your obsession with defending ebay at every turn is blinding you to the fact that the issue is not that ebay charges a fee in order to run the web site, but that it has chosen the ill-advised term “Protection” in order to try and justify it. "

And you replied ""I am defending the fact that ebay have to pay for things."

Few people could dispute that a fee has to be raised somewhere, but you keep ignoring the fact that it's the word "Protection" that's the problem.

As I said.  Blinded.

"are all long standing generic operational business requirement"

It is now beyond me how you believe ebay should pay for operational costs. Or for that matter why a sellers fee was ever needed.

'I agree that its a poorly named service' If you want to look back - I've repeatedly said that. They've copied Vinted and unfortunately people don't read.

BUT - if people don't want to look past that single word - that is very much their problem. ebay have a page that makes perfectly clear what is included in this fee. And it can be argued some of is for the buyers....protection. It's marketing. Is Free Delivery actually free?

That single word is not "their" problem, or "our" problem, or anybody else's problem but ebay's.  If ebay hadn't tried to pass the fee off as "protection", they would have avoided at least some of the furore about the fee.  The backlash is entirely a problem of ebay's own making, as are so many of the problems that ebay has currently got.

@moonlight-rhapsody

I so agree with you. And your replyto @jonatjonatjonat about his undogged determination to defend eBay was classic.

I think eBay is just trying to fool the buyers more than the sellers and so far it is working for eBay. All sales have had "Buyer Protection" under UK Statutory Law anyway. Don't think it is worth continuing to argue with someone who can argue about the colour of an orange.

You are a constant parrot praising ebay and standing up for its ground breaking and highly successful SD implementation.  If you want to defend Ebays right to pay for its service then thats one thing as it is what most companys do but they do it by setting a basic set fee for every transaction in huge letters for the basic child to understand. Your standing up for SD and Ebays implementation up to this point is laughable and seems to be a running joke but also perplexing unless you just like trolling as that is the only real reason I see for your blind admiration for this fine company.

@nursediesel Nurse Ratchet from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest would be so proud of how you worded it. And love your profile pic.

I personally think he is an employee of eBay posing as a seller/conversationalist but that is my own opinion. I refused to entertain SD from the beginning so went to Business Seller status way before I was ready too but do not regret it.

So says you. Someone's opinion is just that an opinion. But alas I don't wish to get into a debate on opinions as we have enough to talk about regarding eBay and their policies and how badly it is affect both personal and business sellers.

Basically the only things i buy on here are things that are difficult to buy locally.    Due to the sun steaming in i cannot buy any net curtain for a bedroom  for miles so buy on Ebay.   Also i recently purchased a real leather patch to repair an expensive chair......again none local.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Talk about arguing just for the sake of it!
After a break from when simple delivery was first introduced back in April I’ve started listing again. So far my experience has been mixe but for small parcel sized parcels I can’t argue with eBay’s naming of the system. Having always used Royal Mail when I bought my own postage labels I added Evri to my despatch options, and for the small number of sales I’ve had so far (books and CDs) neither has performed any better than the other. An evri parcel is lost and similarly one sent by Royal Mail hasn’t moved from the distribution centre. I’m most surprised about the latter because in over 15 years of eBay sales the only issues I’ve had with them have been buyer related. That said, I was in a relative’s house last week and despite it being blatantly obvious that someone was home the door bell camera clearly showed the postman dumping a parcel on the step and not bothering to ring the bell which is an Evri practice for sure.
It gives me no pleasure to say it as I’ve always been an avid supporter of Royal Mail (my dad worked for them all his life )but it may just be that the commonly held view that they are more reliable is becoming misplaced. Equally there could be something in the theory I’ve seen mooted on here that if they see an eBay label the parcel is treated differently.
Unfortunately the pre-used clothes I listed on here received minimal interest so I decided to bite the bullet and put them on the site eBay is trying to copy. Every one that didn’t get a look in here sold, and much as I hate to say it I’ve found I prefer its listing process and the way sales are notified and the label/QR code is forwarded. Unsurprisingly because Evri is cheaper, all but one of my fifteen or so buyers so far has chosen to use them. Everything has arrived on time and I have been paid. For me it makes no difference who buyers choose as my local post office accepts both.
Based on my admittedly limited experience so far I would say that sellers who refuse to use Evri could be cutting their nose off to spite their face. Buyers wouldn’t choose them if they didn’t think they were ok.
Rightly or wrongly I simply can’t get worked up about the Buyer Protection Fee (or whatever it’s called) or its wording. If buyers want something badly enough they will buy it anyway, and does it really matter if a similar protection was offered previously without a charge. Ebay has to make money somehow and there are no free lunches nowadays, not even for those of us who have been loyal users of the platform for years.
