AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

That is good information.
At least that clarifies that IF I started selling again it would not be easy as I use a combo of my phone and the app.
Definitely not exactly Simple for me.

I think you'll find that EBay are very good at giving advice but don't seem to be able to take advice onboard.

So much for the excluded categories, according to the guidelines in June, stamps was exempt from SD, now its mandatory. I tried to list a £50 single stamp today and am locked into SD.
Royal mails information state that valuables such as jewellery and stamps should be sent via special delivery, now ebay CS inform me that it must be send via LL stupid delivery. The CS agent assured me that ebay SD was very secure and no need to worry as everything is covered in case of a problem.
I have yet to see in the T&Cs that ebay take full responsibility for items sent via the wrong postal service.
Cheers ebay, I have several hundred pounds worth of my late father's collection to sell. I doubt if I will bother using this platform to do so.

Stamps are an exempt category, but only if the item is under £10 and the item is letter sized.
Simple delivery also states 'You'll be protected if the item is lost or damaged from the point the item is scanned into the carrier's delivery network and until it's marked as delivered' and Simple Delivery applies on items '£750 or less (Buy It Now price, auction starting price or reserve price)'. The Simple Delivery terms also state 'Once your item has been scanned into the carrier’s network and providing you used the Simple Delivery label and are compliant with these Terms and eBay’s Policies, as well as the relevant Carrier Terms, your item will be covered for loss or damage during transit up to the sold item value on the eBay.co.uk site. This means you will retain your sales proceeds in relation to the item sent using the Simple Delivery label. The item will be in transit from the point it has been scanned into the carrier’s network until it has been marked as delivered by the carrier.'

I used to love dealing with RM Direct.
I went online and booked a collection for next day and item was sent 48hr tracked.
Postie turned up next day with the label and scanned it in front of me.
From that second I knew there was a level of protection if a claim was needed.
Now that was simple. Not bad for £3 which it costs for Large Letter maximum weight nowadays.
This platform and SD cannot beat that service.
That is why SD as it is will never be for me.

"providing you used the Simple Delivery label and are compliant with these Terms and eBay’s Policies, as well as the relevant Carrier Terms, your item will be covered for loss or damage during transit up to the sold item value"
The devil is in the detail here. As mentioned in another SD discussion sending stamps using Royal Mail is fine but some stamps are prohibited by Simple Delivery. So is a seller covered or not?
And if a seller is NOT covered under the T&Cs for SD (which may suddenly change between listing and selling) then how can they disable SD and go back to using custom postage? Would Ebay so much as warn them when listings are suddenly opted in?
On the one hand Ebay is imposing its own delivery system which explicitly removes the cover already provided by the courier. On the other it is simultaneously charging the buyer more for the apparent privilege of doing so.

Yeah - i've got confused there. Hold my hands up.
Can see that stamps are exempt - but even then its not clear cut...
Stamps, any stamp or stamped document issued by a government or related official agencies, other than those that have expired for use or cannot be used to send items

Restricted items I was told a few months back by customer services are eligible for custom delivery
If an item doesn't meet the Simple Delivery programme requirements - for example, bulky items or prohibited/restricted items, or eligible for Authenticity Guarantee - sellers can choose the Custom postage option instead.
so looks like you can send any stamps custom
and chose your own cover ?

Unfortunately no, I've tried every possible permutation and I'm stuck with SD.
CS confirmed yesterday that SD is the only option now
I'll be blowed if I'm sending a mint Victoria with a book price of £500 via micky mouse make it up as they go along postage.
As the old the saying goes, " it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye"

SO COLLECTION ARRANGED NOW 30P !! RIGHT SO I NOW BOOK MY NEXT PARCEL WHICH IS MY POSTAGE CHARGE AND THEN BOOK A COLLECTION FOR IT GUESS WHAT NO COLLECTION SHOWING IN THE PARCEL LIST !! THE ROYAL MAIL WEBSITE MUST BE ASSUMING THE SIMPLE DELIVERY COLLECTION IS THE COLLECTION FOR MY OWN POSTAGE MORE TIME WASTED SO I HAVE TO GO TO ARRANGE A COLLECTION ON THE ROYAL MAIL WEBSITE AND REBOOK A COLLECTION FOR MY POSTAGE THAT CLEARLY HASNT BEEN ADDED TO THE TOTAL COST IF I DONT DO THIS ROYAL MAIL WONT COLLECT THE PARCEL SO THIS IS A ROYAL MAIL WEBSITE GLITCH IT HAS TO BE SO WHAT I AM NOW DOING IS BOOKING MY OWN PARCEL POSTAGE AND COLLECTIONS FIRST THEN LOGGING OUT THEN LOGGING BACK IN AND THEN ADDING THE SIMPLE DELIVERY COLLECTIONS THIS WAY NOTHING GETS MIXED UP BUT TAKES DOUBLE THE TIME WELL DONE EBAY YOU REALLY ARE SO NARCISSISTIC !!

Draft List it at 800£
custom will appear
Chose large parcel
select courier and enter your postage price etc
go back and change price to 500 or whatever the price actually is
It won’t matter that you say it’s large parcel as you can do your own shipping outside of eBay and send large letter special delivery eg

Use my workaround - suitable for small items also. Follow it exactly: https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/how-do-you-list-anything-bigger-than-61cm/td-p/788244...

"If an item doesn't meet the Simple Delivery programme requirements - for example, bulky items or prohibited/restricted items, or eligible for Authenticity Guarantee - sellers can choose the Custom postage option instead."
Sadly, more Ebay lies or 'misdirection'. My 1st/2nd class stamp lots were auto-enrolled into SD and I have no means of un-enrolling them. Despite the items being prohibited for SD.
It was only by reading this forum that I found out the automatic cover RM provide as standard had magically vanished overnight.
SD works in truly mysterious ways - which are NOT simple, NOT cheap and do NOT provide an appropriate level of service.

Post above yours ^^^^^^^^ applies to you also.
15-07-2025 9:52 PM
Thanks, I'll give it a go. I only need Tracked 48 postage tho.
And ideally prefer not to list freepost, so buyer isn't charged fees on the postage as well as item price.
15-07-2025 9:57 PM
I feel sorry for the customer service people they can only say what they’ve been told or understand and let’s face it SD is worse than the krypton factor
15-07-2025 10:06 PM
Thank you and @edwardian-dreams
Yes, doing that seems to have fixed it. I have custom postage back. At least for now.
We shouldn't have to be doing these things. Ebay seems to be getting flakier (need more laborious workarounds) by the day.
Would be nice if things worked as they should instead. And SD was optional.

I'm loving AI these days. I was going to skip over your unreadable post, then I realised I could fix it by asking AI:
Sure! Here’s the text in normal upper/lower case:
Ebay Simple Simon Delivery: What a total joke! And how much are Fleabay making out of this scam? Here's a heads up: if anyone hasn't had this problem yet, so one of my parcels is simple delivery and one isn't. So I print the simple delivery label, only standard tracked, though I usually send everything tracked 24! I think eBay buyers are being smoke screened with this anyway. So I get all my parcels collected, so I have to book a collection for this prepaid simple delivery. More time consuming and messing about with multiple web pages than doing your own postage! So collection arranged now, 30p! Right, so I now book my next parcel, which is my postage charge, and then book a collection for it. Guess what? No collection showing in the parcel list! The Royal Mail website must be assuming the simple delivery collection is the collection for my own postage. More time wasted! So I have to go to arrange a collection on the Royal Mail website and rebook a collection for my postage that clearly hasn't been added to the total cost. If I don't do this, Royal Mail won't collect the parcel. So this is a Royal Mail website glitch; it has to be! So what I am now doing is booking my own parcel postage and collections first, then logging out, then logging back in, and then adding the simple delivery collections. This way, nothing gets mixed up, but takes double the time. Well done, eBay! You really are so narcissistic!
