NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It is a very useful link

I am surprised no body seems to question the details that HMRC are telling people to upload to online business websites and potential security implication . The data supplied should be the minimum required to identify the individual to the HMRC  which is name and address . If that is the name & address the HMRC write to you then they really should not be telling you to supply key personal information that could be misused if allowed to get into the wrong hands.

I got an Ebay last week requesting I update my NI number but rather than address me by name it quoted my Ebay ID which is poor practice on Ebay's and had embedded links to update .  The recommendation to everyone should only be log into you Ebay account and update via the appropriate account settings .

When you think the multitude of online websites that this new requirement applies to you really should expect a better approach to security by the HMRC as this will cause problems some where down the line

  • full name
  • address where you normally live
  • date of birth
  • tax identification number (National Insurance number if you live in the UK)

try looking up something a bit more up to date!  The guidance in regards to online selling requirements that HMRC have given out have been quoted many times on these forums.  You are just picking out the bit that you think serves your purpose.

still totally irrelevant, just because e bay (and by the way it refers to all online market places not just e bay) is not mentioned on that page does not mean it is not HMRC requirements.

Yes it seems pretty obvious that ebay and other large selling platforms would not be asking for NI numbers if it wasn't part of the HRMC reporting requirements. It's the same with all the banks, building societies and investment asset managers who are obliged to do similar reporting to HMRC.

None of them have any reason otherwise to be interested in people's NI number.

It just makes it easier for HMRC to match the records in their data processing.

If you don't like it then blame HMRC and Government policy but it's not fair to blame the companies who are doing what they are required to do to make their reporting compliant. I'm sure they would all prefer it if they didn't have these requirements placed upon them as it just adds to their cost of doing business.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

So I purchased an item with SD and the RM postage cost £3.38 (thankfully as we won the battle on not merging small and medium parcels) however when leaving positive feedback for the seller it's asking me to rate the seller on postage costs (even though it's out of their control other than specifying the size/weight correctly and maybe picking a carrier) and reminding me the postage cost £2.82 which threw me until I realised it was the ex VAT number.

It seems like every day there is a new broken aspect to SD to explore.

It's unbelieve this has even gone live let alone been forced upon some sellers.

Iv got another aspect for you to add on to the list.

Iv had to cancel and refund 2 lots of orders now due to people combining items to buy and at the checkout the AI generated postage label has been woefully under priced.

With free postage ebay take the label money out of your pending funds but when you refund the buyer they don't refund your postage cost from their order...do they refund it in the future?... Iv no idea.

Finding SD ok in its very basic form as long as someone only buys 1 item, but on the whole its not fit for purpose at the min.

This was raised on last week's 'Weekly chat with the eBay Community Team'.  Apparently, that rating is only for eBay's use where Simple Delivery is concerned and it doesn't count against the seller.

You will need to request the refund manually within 14 days of the date of order.

To be fair I am almost OK to voluntarily switch to SD (RM only) on my small parcel listings if they could fix the combined postage issues. They need a way to combine postage on multiple dispatched orders (again without just bumping up a postage band, unless necessary) and promptly send the buyer a partial refund maybe asking the seller the combined item dimensions and weight? I guess they had to build it in a hurry as they hadn't realised how important it was to people. It clearly needs a lot more work.

For the damage they are causing the Large Letter items there is no way I would switch those listings to SD out of choice it's an unreasonably huge % uplift to ask buyers to pay.

Thank you for the reply and taking the time to post the link but I have tried it numerous times and just can't get it to do anything apart from saying invalid number!

Can only guess they may issue a postage refund when they produce the monthly statement, but that is only wild guess.

@akemp1

I haven't received it but I know someone who did.

Just about their only option in thier catagory will be SD.

Just seems like this slow (very) rollout of SD on catagory to catagory basis.

@sml192  is correct above, and has provided the correct link for you to request a refund for an unused label.

Have you been inputting the ORDER number when a number is asked for? This is different to the item number.

Obviously, eBay can't make the refund until the label has expired, as otherwise you could receive your label then use the label. You also can't make the refund yourself, as you will never receive the postage money; if you refund, and ask for cancellation of the label, the buyer will receive two refunds, one from you and one from eBay.

That is why there is a delay in the refund coming through, whether that be to you or your buyer. I agree that, if I was the buyer, already disappointed that my order did not go through, I would be far from happy to find out that I had to wait some considerable time to receive the postage part of my refund. I'm not sure if there is a way to get around this, but it is yet another thing eBay should have considered, as it's a very common scenario.

Defo been using the order number. Wonder if it might be due to a cancelled order number perhaps, although the label should show as unused I would have thought. Its a bit of a mystery.

Have taken all the listings down for now except 4 in case it happens again, figure the chances of an old punk rocker with a Mk1 escort fitted with a Sony radio coming along are pretty slim.

I have also received an email about SD which was titled 'Changes to some of your listings' which said that from the 5th June the delivery option for my eligible listings will be changed from what I chose when listing to Simple Delivery.  I have only one listing live at the moment which is in Women's Fashion and once it's changed to SD it will be ended as I have no intention of using SD.

Clearing everything as multibuys so selling bundles, rest to the tip or charity shops.

Changed everything to buy it now so it runs until sold, livid with every time I needed to relist with auction they altered the postage options. To labour intensive to keep amending the auctions. I don't want to use their couriers or wait as the buyer cant be ars... to say received to get paid. So after more than 25 years I'm closing the account.

I add a message Royal Mail only but the sellers ignore it and chose an option that I cant perform.

Or people pick the wrong delivery size and price as its the cheapest for them.

I feedback ebay everytime but it appears they don't care so giving up selling
