AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

"it's more complicated than I can keep track of"
And this is one of the key problems with the Orwellian-named "Simple" Delivery. Maybe frequent sellers can get themselves familiar with all the Exclusions, Eligibles, Categories, Sub-categories, caveats, etc, but for the casual or infrequent seller, it's WAY too complicated.

Well this frequent seller is confused too 😛 Wait.......that could be because we are both blonde lol

I know some people have a good delivery person but in general Evri is a shambles now and it was a shambles when it was hermes.
I have never used them in my life to send anything and never will.
It's just so frustrating and annoying that ebay chose to partner with Evri and are now trying to convince private sellers to use them any way they can.
The whole selling and posting experience here at present is just a absolute shambles and a monumental mess.

@edwardian-dreams wrote:As far as I know (could be wrong) when using custom postage you’re free to charge what you like - the postage cost is editable
if eBay were going to force us to send custom packages using eBay to buy the postage rather than use stamps or going direct to Royal Mail, (ie at the max 100g postage cost)
then they wouldn’t allow the postage cost to be editable
if you see what I mean
so the details might show 100g but whose gonna know it isn’t
I expect with time ebay will want to lock down this to an ebay provided 100g letter or large letter label so that (1) they get the revenue for selling the label, (2) they get the online tracking reference (even though it's untracked) for delivery confirmation and (3) to avoid people listing things as 100g custom to get around using SD where ebay require it.

It wouldn't surprise me if the next option would be sellers having to buy pre labelled envelopes from ebay.
Now that would not go down well.

Your post mirrors my thoughts completely.
Until I can choose to use RM to post my items without me or a buyer being penalised by a extortionate overpriced charge then I'll just remain a non seller here.

Very true.
There's just been to many changes over such a short period of time it's become really difficult to keep up.
But I am true to my word and since this thread started I've always said I would give ebay a thumbs up 👍 if they did something to benefit it's users.
So although it doesn't benefit me as a private seller this latest concession that will benefit a lot of private sellers actually is a breath of fresh air.
It's a start.

The £20 is still a concession that seems to be limited by category and by weight so not as comprehensive as the email title would have suggested. It really is the bare minimum they could have conceded on this matter hardly an acceptance they have got SD fundamentally wrong in principle. With this change they are still choosing to charge people buying items in other categories or with 250g items far more than is reasonable because they are inappropriately pushing them into tracked 48 when it's not required.
Personally I don't feel it's even enough to justify a thumbs up.
Maybe I'll change the angle of tilt on my thumbs down for SD.

I only made my post because it's something that's positive for the first time in months.
Whether it's a minimum token gesture or a gesture that will lead to more welcome concessions and changes remains to be seen.
As far as im concerned it is a tiny step in the right direction but it's still a long way from being useful to a lot of private sellers, including me.

To me there is one big huge difference between RM, Evri, and this platform and SD.
I received this earlier -
"Once again, please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of Royal Mail for the problem you've had, and our thanks for taking the time to make us aware of this. Please be assured that we take letting our customers down seriously and will use this information to make further improvements'.
Kind regards
Royal Mail
I removed the person's name but only RM would send something like this that is actually believable.

That's the ebay way. Start with something outrageous and then back-track by tiny steps and minimal concessions until enough sellers are swayed and stop complaining, then completely ignore the rest.
And then start whittling away at the concessions or think of even more devious ways to achieve the same end result. All ebay is interested in is increasing its 'take' from every transaction.

I do agree that greed has totally become the main concern here.
I do remember when I started this thread someone saying ebay UK was the guinea pig trial platform so obviously ebay globally wants to make changes.
The problem here is for the first time in as long as I can remember private sellers have not just rolled over and accepted things and some have even moved to other platforms.
It's obviously taking way longer than was anticipated for these changes and SD to be accepted.

The £20 & 100g to get a choice is still no use....... Hold Fast People....Hold Fast....!!
05-09-2025 4:08 PM
eBay, you say you have listened to people's Feedback, and raised the bar to £20 & 100g to get a choice to opt out of Simple Delivery, well unfortunately as far as I am concerned, this is still no good.... I'm just in the same position, and can not, and will not sell anymore, until I get the choice between Simple Delivery and using my own Delivery choice.... You are hemorrhaging User's, you need to listen better..... This concession is still no good to most people, and no-one is coming back to Buy or Sell until you resolve this and do what is right.... Listen too, and respect Users wishes.....!

Indeed, you do have to wonder what the point is of bringing in large letters into the exemption while at the same time leaving the weight limit at 100g. How many items that are large letter sized weigh less than 100g? Not many that I can think of.
In my opinion, anything under £20 should be exempt from Simple Delivery as standard Royal Mail postage rates all give compensation up to £20 in case of loss etc without unnecessarily paying extra for a tracked service.

Yeah for me the weight problem is a big issue, I collect CDs and DVDs and sell some CDs and DVDs from time to time, and generally the Weight just goes over the 100g most times, and some CDs & DVDs are fragile and need extra packaging which pushes them up into the Small Packet category at Post Office, which I can account for, but Simple Delivery doesn't account for, so it's an absolute nightmare, so I just don't Sell anything anymore

To be fair I'd guess around 50% of the items I have sold recently are large letter and of that 50% are under 100g packed so maybe 25% of all my items. But then most won't be in those categories...

Yeah I think ebay might be missing how the packed weight of a CD or DVD often pushes it to 250g not 100g.

Exactly it was comms designed to looks like a giveaway without giving much away. It's like a boss giving their employee the 8th day of the week off to relax in recognition of their hard work, commitment and role model behaviours.
