NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It is not just private sellers that are abandoning ebay.

We are a small business selling on ebay and we are also (trying) to run down our stock with a view to closing at the end of this year.

Fortunately we have dodged the simple delivery bullet as we are a business and have a Royal Mail business account but all the other changes made by ebay (the so called seller protection, free to sell on ebay for private sellers, the promoted listings failure  etc have doomed the small business on ebay. They have now managed to alienate private and business sellers to a point where the ship is being abandoned by both.

We do not like the 'other site' and do not want to use it to sell. It truly is the 'poor relation' and we would much rather see our beloved ebay returned to what it once was, the first and the best, rather than trying to mimic that 'other site' and slowly burying itself and all its loyal members.

So as you can see, all ebay users are doomed on ebays current suicidal path.

Re the price increases, it is also questionable why there should be a difference in price for items below and above £100. In my experience, the Royal Mail postage rate is determined by the size and weight of the item, not by the value, and in any case the compensation level that Royal Mail offer on Tracked 24/48 is up to £150. So only if the value exceeds £150 should there be a rate change, which should then be for Special Delivery.

Yes basically ebay need to completely align to the RM website published online price list and accept that their profit is whatever commercial rebate they can negotiate with RM for selling the label. They are slowly understanding this with recent concessions but not fast enough.

Anything else is leaving them open to public criticism that they are either denying consumers access to suitable products or selling SD for more than it would cost to buy from RM directly. It's a really bad look.

Just imagine what the FCA would say if a bank was found to be deny a customer access to a suitable financial product and force the sale of something unsuitable for more profit - the compensation would go on for decades.

Ebay need to clean up the mess and restore their reputation and it starts here.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I got the message about SD becoming optional for a lot of smaller value items.

My concern is that i have never weighed a cd in a plastic case and will not buy scales to do so.

But by the time protective wrapping is wrapped around it I guess it will be a bit over 100g and it just seems ridiculous to have to use SD for a cd.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Agreed.

It is actually so refreshing to see a concession that will benefit a lot of private sellers.

It's taken about 5 months to get this concession but with busy season on the horizon and with this amount of unhappy sellers not going away it is in ebays interest to start thinking of it's users a bit more.

I actually do not think it is 'fair, decent and honest' of e bay to offer any different rates in regard to whether you use RM, EVRI or both!   I think it is absolutely 'unfair, indecent and completely dishonest' to do so.  They are already restricting your choice as a buyer and seller and then have the gall to charge you extra in regard to it.  If i had not already left due to SD then i would definitely have done so because of this.

I think it's fair that they have separate rates for Evri and RM as RM tend to provide a better service with wider geographic coverage and so deserve to be paid 10% more on parcels. Ebay should just charge what those providers have as their list price (or less)  matching the insurance levels, weight limits, etc and pocket the rebates.

I also get that if a buyer and seller BOTH elect to use either carrier that gives ebay a bit more commercial freedom to secure better pricing so maybe that price could be lower. Provided the price for either exercising a choice is never higher than the carrier list price there is no penalty element for not going with a preferred carrier.

Ebay should let the seller make the choice of which carriers they are willing to offer then let the buyer choose the carrier by name (rather than obscuring behind meaningless standard/express) from what the seller offers. That's how it works at the clothing platform and people are OK with.

While ebay continue to try and hide information from buyers , diverge from carrier list prices, limit options etc they will continue to get criticised and people will get annoyed and leave or reduce the amount of buying and/or selling activity here.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

As far as I know (could be wrong) when using custom postage you’re free to charge what you like - the postage cost is editable

if eBay were going to force us to send custom packages using eBay to buy the postage rather than use stamps or going direct to Royal Mail,  (ie at the max 100g postage cost)

then they wouldn’t allow the postage cost to be editable

if you see what I mean

so the details might show 100g but whose gonna know it isn’t

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That is a great post that I really agree with.

Months ago I said i knew SD would cause major issues for private sellers like me.

That effect drastically caused me and other sellers to buy less on here which in turn was bound to affect small business sellers here.

The knock on effect is now so obvious.

I also hope that enough changes are made to return ebay back to when it was fun to sell and fun to buy like it used to be.

Even with today's £20 concession on letters & large letter I still don't think ebay get it.

With each SD concession they seem to be doing the bare minimum to shift the goodwill measurement slightly in their direction.

It's never enough to satisfy people because they haven't shown commitment to the principle people want to see of fully matching the carrier price lists in terms of product range, size, weight and compensation limits.

They should just settle for the rebates and stop being greedy and pushing people into unsuitable products (eg £2.70 Tracked 48 on a 250g large letter item under £20 that should be £1.80 2nd class)

Until that happens ebay will continue to be doing wrong and people will be hacked off with them.

And they still need to implement the fixes for when the seller has sold an item and the listing data was wrong such as if they need to change carrier as the item is bigger than medium parcel, etc.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That's good to know.

When i use RM direct because I post using Large Letter I always choose the next weight option up because it doesn't make a difference because I always posted using 48hr tracked.

I just weighed a CD in a standard jewel case including basic front and back inserts and it was 88g so it then depends on the amount of wrapping etc but I would tend to buy a 250g label for it especially if the CD insert is more like a booklet etc. The difference in 2nd class rates is only 25p

But now it would be £2.70 SD rather than the £1.80 it should cost a massive % difference in cost because ebay will still be forcing people to buy Tracked 48 when 2nd Class is a more suitable RM product.

Unless there is something going on in the CDs category where you might still be allowed 250g 2nd class who knows it's more complicated than I can keep track of.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That's true.

I always sent my items by 48hr tracked LL because they were signed cd's.

Even with the 30p collection charge it still made the cost a lot cheaper than having to use SD.

I know it all depends on what items are being sold by sellers but the way I sold there was no need for BPF and I only charged buyers what RM charged me.

There has been to much meddling and to many changes made in just a few months no wonder sellers don't know if they are coming or going.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I am experimenting listing with simple delivery on the odd item.....so far its been ok BUT saying that my postage stars have dropped 😞

I have just listed a huge RNLI remote control boat.......I only ever use RM.  I managed to get the postage to £9 which is about right when packed exceptionally well  (fingers crossed)

I notice other listings have postage at £3.45.................even if sent by the dreaded Evri i presume it would be a lot more than that

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I totally agree.

What caused me to become so annoyed was the idea of having to use SD for a simple thing like a cd in its case.

That's why I've not listed a single item since early April and I won't list anything until common sense is seen here which really has disappeared over the last few months.

AAh right sorry assumed they were low value CDs.

At this rate ebay will force you to buy their pens to sign them with 🙂

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

There's still way to much confusion that's been caused by SD.

For me Evri (hermes) will never be a postal option.

A change of name cannot hide a 2nd rate courier company.

But if I chose RM only then the SD charge becomes extortionate. The constant changes and amendments really do not help or benefit anyone.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I totally agree with you.   I fiddle around for ages until i get what i think is the correct RM postage rate.

I will not use Hermes...........they throw that huge boat over a gate or fence its smashed to pieces

Talking of Hermes......close to where i live people are reporting on FB callers at 3.a.m to their homes.   Not sure if all are.....but one was Hermes trying to deliver due to a huge backlog they have.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

sorry i worded part of it incorrectly.  I understand them using different pricing structures for PO and EVRI but to penalise sellers and buyers just to try to influence them to use cheap EVRI is wrong.  I personally would never touch EVRI with a bargepole, i am happy to pay a higher rate because RM are normally dearer but i do not see why i should have to pay even further (or sell) just because RM is the only choice.    It is so obvious that e bay are in bed with EVRI and would only use them if they had the choice to.
