AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

You will need to call citizens advice but you can use their form from Fridays at 17:00 to Monday at 09:00. Just use this link - https://referrals.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/forms/general
CMA - general.enquiries@cma.gov.uk
BBC - bbcyourvoice@bbc.co.uk
The Guardian's Consumer desk: money@theguardian.com
There are many other places you can go. Hit Reddit and other social media if thats your thing. Go through all the news outlets. Talk to your local politicians. etc, etc, etc.
I suggest you double check the form letter if you are going to use it and edited it for your experience as you want to be completely honest and my experience might be slightly different than yours or you might want to highlight some other issue that you think is relevant, etc. I just included it for people who want to plug in some personal details and dates and send it off without much effort. Cheers.

Disgraceful, and reinforces my decision to sack ebay off. I'm glad I did that proactively rather than waiting for a problem to occur. Don't need unplanned problems in my life!

I've just had a look. It's my understanding that the private seller's listings were all SD. He sold a gold sovereign for £590. At the point of printing his postage label, AI bot flags that it is gold and WITHOUT WARNING provided an ordinary RM label as though it was being purchased via the old 'buy postage on-line thru eBay' system. When the item went missing, and the seller tried to claim through SD delivery he was told he wasn't covered because of the value and as he didn't purchase through SD!!! Is that your understanding too?
A couple of things stand out here if my understanding is correct: 1) Why did a pop up message not come up when the bot decided he couldn't have an SD label telling him that he would have to arrange his own postage to ensure that he received adequate cover ? and 2) Why was the seller allowed to list a gold item under SD (or his listings migrated onto it) if the item is excluded from compensation in the first place?
It appears that eBay are denying all responsibility for this situation, blaming the seller for his choice of postage!!
I realise that there is a separate thread for this issue, but it is still relevant here as this thread relates to SD. Many people on that thread are now thinking that they have also received labels that they thought were SD but weren't and that they have just been fortunate that they didn't have to claim.

Yes, if ebay can make you use SD, then secretly change it, where do any of us stand? If Richard had known he would have used special delivery (signed) but couldn't when forced onto SD.

The community team are now telling me that the £3.44 postage was a promotional rate ? at the start when simple delivery has launched ? so where was the notice and why no optout of this promotion ,
the only thing that was said was its mandatory & nothing about promotional rates this is miss selling

Yes, it's truly appalling. On earlier posts on this thread, I (vaguely!) remember there being confusion over whether weights were given on labels with some people claiming they were on SD but weights were given, and other people saying that it couldn't be SD if they were. In hindsight, that makes sense in light of this case, as perhaps people were believing that they were posting under SD when in fact they had been sneakily 'downgraded'.
This is going to take months to unpack, as more and more nightmare scenarios come to light. This is why this thread is important as those private sellers who are actively selling can share their experiences here as a warning to the less brave. Personally, I think my 'Time away from selling' is going to be on indefinitely at this rate.

Promotional? Do they seriously expect us to accept that? Surely, the idea of a promotion is to attract customers, whereas we were all forced onto a mandatory product, so why would they need a promotional rate? A sweetener at best - but more likely they are trying to cover up!

So how does that blatant lie from Ebay , reflect on the other lie that postage on SD would be on average 80% of the cost of doing it yourself
I try not to do business where ever possible that companies that blatantly lie , are you listening EBay !
Lying is not an acceptable Marketing !
P.S I am still not selling

they said ,Simple Delivery will be the only delivery option available for private sellers so postage for parcels was £3.44 so you used this but new postage rates for Simple Delivery, which will come into effect on 20 May, news letter from the 7th May,, Until the new rate comes in, there’s a promotional rate for small and medium parcels (between 0-2kg) to match the Royal Mail pricing you’re used to. This only applies to items that are eligible for Simple Delivery, and will end at 11:59pm on 19 May. After this, the new postage rates will apply. so this promotional rate which was the same as before ! and has ended pushing all price listed before up to medium parcels what a con and where was the option not to use this promotion !!! no simple!!! now looking at listings after 7th May and postage has all gone up, and 5 weeks the get an answer one big trap and the only way not to use this promotion was not to list anything ? madness

Yes my understanding of the 'RM price match' was that it was temporarily going to make SD small/medium parcels the same rate as the new fairly acceptable 3.44 SD small parcel rate until they could split the rates.
The problem seems to be that when originally violating some listings they had changed some from custom/small onto the SD small/medium combined and then now they have split the rates they had lost track of the original listing size (or maybe a new listing created on the combined rate where they never knew the size) and played safe (for them) and put stuff that was on the SD small/medium onto the SD medium rate and it's now for seller to set those listings to the SD small rate if suitable.

I'm still going. Tx for your support. I fail to understand what's going on. But I'm leaving if I can't print labels, need a Q.R. code and can't use R.M.
Still listing in the OLD way.

Amazingly sold an item on 11/6 unbeknown to me finally switched to SD. Sold few minutes to midnight and told had to dispatch on 13th (today) Printed label says 'post by end 20/6'. We had to pack and jump in the car and drive 4 mile round trip for a meagre £9 sale increasing our carbon footprint and to hell with net zero. Cant risk leaving til Monday when ebay are quoting delivery from.... Have changed the ebay imposed dispatch from 2 to 3 days but this is ridiculous with no understanding of sellers in rural areas but obviously not wanted.
13-06-2025 4:02 PM
just one question, if the label says 'post by end 20/6' (a week away) why did you have to rush to post it today??
13-06-2025 4:17 PM
My guess is ebay, who are now the only shipping broker for their own selling platform, are buying the labels from Royal Mail, who gives you a week to use your label if you buy them normally from their website. Ebay is taking that label and reselling it, at a premium, to you and attaching their own terms and conditions to it. Just my humble opinion of course. You probably will never know as ebay seem to be working in complete secrecy with no transparency for the customers.
13-06-2025 4:20 PM
I'm guessing the label is valid for 7 days but Ebays estimated delivery date is before that.
If seller posted on 7th day that would make a late delivery ?.
13-06-2025 4:38 PM
The label might say that, but as suema_62 says, eBay said she had to post it by the 13th. You are now only given a three day window maximum to mark as dispatched by eBay. I don't know what happens if you don't mark as dispatched before the three days, but it won't be good!! When I first started looking into SD this was one of the first things I queried - why do we only have up to three days to post now? The CS read out from her script that as private sellers we have up to 40 days to post. I said "Not now we don't!" So she said she would raise it with the specialist team. Obviously I have never heard anything and didn't expect to.
