NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

So are you saying that if I choose RM, no printer, no smartphone, I thought I would get a QR code with a number below it that I could screenshot and take to PO and then let them deal with it? Is that not right?

By the way it looks like my finished item I can post custom, they haven't paid yet but I went into invoices to look and it's all custom that I put and I can see her name and address. Course anything could happen before I get to post office!!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

they used to not do that. all that happened was everyone charged pennies for products and loaded the product cost into the postage.

There is a reason why you can't have nice things. ebay have to program for the lowest common denominator.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

everyone's lived experience is different.

I've sold 27 things since this 'all started' ALL posted by Evri, many by SD Evri.

100% success rate. No returns. no lost parcels. no 'defects'. no negative feedback. Excellent 1st class tracking (unlike RM). 2 people bought again using same method.

Contrast RM over same period which is often used to deliver to me: 2 parcels received but tracking says not. Seller not paid... 1 lost parcel...

I would use Evri SD all the time:

1) single press of button under SD (took me 10 mins before doing it separately)

2) no need for printer

3) two parcel shops miles nearer than post office

4) SD Evri is cheaper than 'normal' evri and I am getting more sales as a result.

5) I can turn off RM as dont like them

Negative points:

Large letter an issue under SD (all mine items are small parcel)

Over 2kg it jumps to 15 kg and a big jump in cost, so I have to 'custom' those.

(when customs complete you can still buy Evri postage from ebay but have to use your cleared balance which you get back once item delivered)

The thing is, though, you have the choice of using SD or not.  I remember you showed us a screenshot of your postage options, and I didn't have the same options, and nor do most people, I believe.  Why can't we all be given the choice of using SD or not, for all our items.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Had an issue with large letter postage rate unable to change in  listing. Ebay looking into it...10 days later they are still trying to sort it confirmed by email. 'Thank you for your patience'............. How confident are we about SD???

If your SD is set to use RM-only you should get a QR code but not a PIN number as that's only for Evri items.

Sounds like you are planning to take your computer to the post office!

I haven't heard of anyone re-drawing the QR code on graph paper yet... 🙂

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

most certainly agree with you taking percentage of postage costs is taking the biscuit

Postage is for postage and not for eBay to take a cut of, especially when the postage is higher than it should be (low value large letters for example). If eBay was to recoup costs, as any business has a right to do, put a percentage of the value on the sale of items with a fixed amount of say 75p, as they used to, but don't put it onto the buyer and claim it's for buyer protection which is a lie, when protection is there in case of loss when you enter into a contract with the carrier to deliver the items.

I don't think "everyone charged pennies for products" at all, most items weren't just pennies, and any buyer would see through an inflated postage cost straight away. A percentage of the sales value plus a fixed amount should cover all eventualities for eBay to get its fees.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Ebay had working capital of 6.5 Billion dollars in 2022. Ebays working capital in 2024 was 1.47 Billion dollars. A possible motive for trying to take every cent they can from their customers by any means necessary? I still think they are in a dire situation internally and we are paying the price. All speculation of course.

Fair enough argue over my usage of the word everyone.

’enough’ sellers did it to make eBay decide they wouldn’t be having any of that.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

SIMPLE DELIVERY is over charging , items that where listed with postage at £3.44 (SD) are now £3.64 or £5.15 that's over charging , & items listed before simple delivery but are now SD have jumped up postage as well !! , still not fixed,

My guess is this is the result of some items that were originally listed as custom/small parcel got updated ('violated') by ebay a while ago who set them to the combined SD small/medium rate. Then when ebay finally accepted the need to split small/medium they had lost track of the original custom postage size so played safe and set them to the medium parcel rate so the sellers now need to edit their listings back to small parcel size if applicable.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The £3.64 & £5.15 is the medium parcel rate 1kg & 2kg so if the parcel is only a small parcel you need to change it to a small parcel then it will show £3.38. Which as said is cheaper than Royal Mail.

When they split the small and medium parcels up everything stayed at a medium parcel rates.

Yes its a pain having to change things every time Ebay do some sort of update.

Looks like our replies overlapped but at least we are in agreement.

I recently bought an item which has SD (I know... but it's usually not the seller's fault) and had to message them to get them to fix their listing and they were happy to do it and were unaware that the listing had been put through the meat grinder by ebay and had wondered why their sales rate had dropped.

Even if ebay are not going to admit the mistake it would be helpful for ebay to tell sellers that they need to check their existing listings to ensure that the postage size/weight information is correct (and hasn't been broken).

I dread to think how this issue might double up with the issue with combined shipping which also seems to blindly push orders up a weight / size band.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

When I emailed our UK eBay "Leader", who passed me to her underling and I said no printer, no smartphone, (she doesn't know I have a tablet), I asked whether that's what she was suggesting.

But how absurd is it that in order to sell on ebay anyone should have to even think of visiting a library to print a label. “

you DONT

with SD (and “normal” Evri for that matter and some “normal” RM options) YOU DO NOT NEED A PRINTER

you print in store using either the QR code or if you haven’t got a smart phone, use a 6-digit bypass code which is emailed.

if you are “low tech” just write that down…

no need to go into library.

SD isn’t perfect (large letter options and over 2kg options are poor for example) but it’s better than people are making out for “small parcel” items.

But it was still easier for me to write my own label, walk round the corner and pay over the counter at my local post office.  I know exactly where I stand re. compensation for loss or damage and don't mind paying a few pence more if it helps keep their business alive and it's still there providing services for us locals.
