AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

"Did you manage to send the parcel in the end? "
Yes, on Vinted. I have now stopped selling on eBay, it's just too much hassle.

Have you actually received the payment you expected from eBay? Surely they will deduct the cost of the label from what they pay you regardless of whether you buy the label through ebay or not. Otherwise "Simple Delivery" is completely optional.

The mentors mention you can change the tracking number of the SD label within the actions drop down menu.
Have never tried it, but tempted too if another sale comes along.

I've had my first painful managed delivery issue at that site. Sold a bungle of 5 low value items each listed as small parcel rate (up to 1kg) and that site issued me a 1kg Yodel label for the whole bundle when I would have expected it to generate an upto 5kg label.
I raised a ticket with their support and they said to cancel the bundle and ask the buyer to repurchase under a single listing which thankfully they were happy to do. I threw in a freebie to keep them sweet. Luckily the items all fitted within 2kg as it seems that site don't support labels above 2kg at all.

No, Buyer cancelled.

If by 'mentors' you mean the Indian call centre script readers, they say a lot, much of which turns out to be inaccurate, like " it doesn't matter if the label is wrong, the Post Office will accept it" and "if the postage is wrong you can just pay the extra at the Post Office" and best of all "Just ask your buyer to choose Evri" in answer to my query stating that the buyer is unable to choose Evri delivery"! I do hope eBay is not overpaying them.

No, was referring to the mentors that post on here (or think that's their title, the people with the mauve coloured names)
Wouldn't use the call centre as I think you'd probably get better advice on here.

I'd like to see a proper explanation of how combined SD is supposed work (it just seems to bump it up a band to the next size//weight price) and if are still working to improve it. Sadly I wasn't available to ask at the time.

Picky of me, but actually they're in the Philippines. Unless you're lucky and get Ireland, most often in the early morning.
Possibly honeymonster, when referring to 'mentors', intended the people who sometimes drop into these forums if you wave at them hard enough, and also run the fiasco known as the Wednesday afternoon chat hour.
mentor: noun A wise and trusted counselor or teacher.
Hmm, maybe you're using a different dictionary. That wouldn't be the word I'd use to describe these unfortunate, probably well-meaning, but utterly hobbled people. I have no idea how they sustain the job for more than a few weeks. Very very sad for them. Their managers should be ashamed and should be allowing them to rotate in reps from the various teams at intervals to give real answers.

"actually they're in the Philippines."
Interesting, the last person I actually spoke too was definitely Indian but I didn't ask him where is was based. On their chat line I have dealt with Kamlesh, Tarish and Rohit. All Indian names and Google states these are not typical Filipino names. So either eBay has shipped it's customer service staff to the Philippines. or they just pretend that they are there as Indian call centres have such a bad reputation.
More likely is that they use India for calls from the UK and Philippines (and probably other countries - I know several companies that use Guatamala for example) for calls from elsewhere?

"If by 'mentors' you mean the Indian call centre script readers,"
No, mentors are members of ebay like the rest of us - not employees or external contractors. The only difference is that they've reached a higher level than the rest of us in the "ranking" system - see this link for the ranks:
https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Community-Notice-Board/Community-Ranks/ba-p/7324497
The mentors are sometimes called the "pinks" due to the colour of their rank. Because of their experience as active sellers/buyers and forum users, they are generally knowledgeable and reliable about the way ebay works.

Ah, I was referring to phone calls I've had in the past. The chat line I can well believe is Indian. Or AI.
Maybe support staff are being sourced all over the world, because it's such a fun job and so easy. Easy because you just tell the user that the problem will be fixed in 48 hours and they go away.

Enough about call centres, let's get back on topic, Simple Delivery. Here's a post from reddit.com/r/ebayuk from 20 minutes ago which to my mind sums up the problem for anyone house-bound and without a printer:
I'm a private seller, I recently had my first sale via simple delivery, I always use royal mail, with new simple delivery I'm unable to arrange collection for items as I don't have a printer and there's no option for royal mail to bring label with postage labels created outside of their website/app
My question is how am I supposed to arrange collection of my parcels going forward, I don't live near a post office and have to pay travel cost if I want to get one
I had to buy postage and collection again separately and send eBay a receipt of this to recover my postage cost and was informed this is a one off thing and I wouldn't be able to get a refund in the future
The first advisor I spoke to assured me royal mail would bring a label even though there was no option and lo and behold royal mail shows up without a label this morning
Anyone in similar situation with any solutions or advice?
It's not worth selling things if I have to spend travel money every time something sells.

They hold our money to collect interest. We have to initiate the withdrawal so they hope we forget and they can get more interest! They leave us the option of the 2 worst shippers in Britain so they can make money by us having to buy postage through ebay. 17 years as a customer and this is how I am treated. They must be close to bankruptcy to treat and steal from their own customers! Pathetic how a once great company has fallen into this mess!

Under my "very simple delivery" plan you would have selected Evri. Buyer buys label you selected, job done.
06-06-2025 2:21 PM
According to the latest data from Ofcom's annual Post Monitoring Report, Evri has been identified as the worst-performing parcel delivery company in Britain, with a customer satisfaction rate of just 32%. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Evri has held this position.
Ebay is trying to steal more of our money buy making us buy postage through them. We can no longer choose our preferred shipper but pick from the 2 worst in Britain!
So yes suelel1968 job done! ebay has their whole selling scam from start to finish wrapped up in a nice little package! They make shipping money off us, interest money off us and we get kicked in the teeth. How ebay has fallen in just 5 years.

Isn't it ironic..... eBay want you to give Buyers a good honest experience, but take away the choice of how you want to send your items ,to give the Buyer a good honest experience....!!

A few hours ago I put some vintage 1920's football team autographs on the site. Some. I priced at £10 and some at £20 I have just gone back on one listing, as I noticed a spelling mistake, and there on the listing was a note 'This item has been changed to S.D'. I checked the others and it appears that a couple that I put on for £20 had been changed to S.D. I have just changed them back to CUSTOM POSTAGE I'll be keeping my eye on the listings from now on. If they change again I'll just change them back. If they continue changing the postage I'll change them all to POST FREE and add the postage to the initial list price.
