AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

"have to" these words say it all. Gone are the days of choice as an ebay seller. Apparently my phone is too old to support the new ebay app so it is not convenient for me to produce a QR code in order to get a label in the Post Office. Apparently I have to find the QR code on my computer then email it to myself and then find the email on my phone. I want to simply write a label myself then pay to mail a parcel at the post office I believe that to be simple delivery.

Seems Ebay is killing Ebay. Spose they've gotta keep those employees busy doing something
14-05-2025 8:43 AM
When you say 'employees' you mean users? WE are the ones having to test all these crazy new ideas and giving daily feedback on everything that's wrong about them.
Not only is it NOT entirely free to sell, Uber-ebay don't even pay wages.

There are NO free lunches when it comes to EbaY. It’s become a very unfair and Money grabbing platform. Everyone needs to all boycott Ebay until they put things straight.

I am a bit of a saddo in regard to packing. Most of my items are clothes and they get folded neatly, wrapped in some tissue paper and put in a new bag, then well taped (yes i am one of those irritating people who over tape!). I also use address labels to make it look neater! When it comes to other items they are packed in boxes (i have a relative that buys everything off Amaz. on and i have a stack of different sized boxes and all the paper they use to pack things in. I also buy bubble wrap which i also use on my jigsaws - as i said 'a saddo'. However i do get a lot of feedback in regard to the packing and it is good so i am happy. Costs a fortune over the time though... Just think how much money i would have if i just used a bit of sticky tape on an old black bin liner!

Excellent posting. Good to read some common sense content.

Just keeping an eye on how my account is with SD.
I am just hitting the "sell similar" option and some old listings are saying "This listing has been updated to be posted with Simple Delivery". Some still have custom options showing and some doesn't show SD at all ! ! !
Anyone stil have this kind of issue ??

My husband has the same problem with his 'old' phone and the ebay app. My phone is only slightly newer than his, so no doubt I'll soon be unable to use it too. They really don't want 'dinsosaurs' like us do they!

yes postage price still up and down even on custom post ,you put in one figure in on list page and different figure shows on view page, had sell similar Large letters of 12 items prices where SD £1.55 £2.74 & £3.44 + one had the custom postage option so i added £1.80 ? but what it shows to buyers i have not checked ?

Now I've got this popping up on my seller hub overview!! I don't want it to change, it takes me ages to get accustomed to every new thing!!

kath3735_wxmjn you're not a saddo at all. You may go a bit further than I would but you're perfectly entitled to have standards even if some others don't. I myself have bought rolls of both small and large bubblewrap in the past (very economic in a roll) along with jiffy bags and card envelopes. But I always try to re-use packaging materials first, boxes, bags, envelopes and bubblewrap, and the amount of my own fresh material is minimal as a result. I also take a lot of care when packing items (in the days when I could sell on eBay) and was always pleased when I received favourable feedback especially when they mentioned the packing. 24 years on eBay with almost 6000 positive feedbacks and I am reduced to just selling items under £10 that fit into a letter. I will not have anything to do with simple delivery until eBay sorts this mess.

So they think Private Sellers are running businesses, in which case we all need to register? 🤣

Hello Kath … You most certainly NOT “sad” in your dispatch of items you have sold.
In fact you are a credit to be much admired in the recycling world.
Trust your buyers should be more than happy.

That pop up should never have been created, or at least it should have been neutral as regards seller account type.
There are obviously messages appropriate to all accounts and ones only appropriate to private or business accounts, ebay should make sure it doesn't mix these up.
14-05-2025 1:25 PM
Oh, does that mean it wasn't intended for me, thank you I can stop worrying about that at least.

I feel exactly the same way. EBay has become dictatorial in forcing us to use simple. I was quite happy with Royal Mail and I haves 100% feedback of over 7000. It was bad enough having to wait for payment but this was the final straw.

I would say the most confused elements of Ebay are Ebay's definition of Business and the demarcation of Private and Business sellers and rather than "re-invent" the Ebay platform, this should have been their focus
For Ebay Commercial " Business" sellers should be good earners . However not everyone who sells as a higher volume of items should naturally progress to be a business seller .
On average I was selling 6 items a weeks , some of it was my collection , some of it was stuff I fixed up and a small proportion was stuff I bought with the idea of taking a punt . My motivation was to pay for my hobby and also sell as part of a hobby .
Effectively Ebay have annihilated the middle area of their business , so although some seller my upgrade to business sellers as a result of recent action , however many if forced would just stop selling if Ebay insisted on them upgrading .
If Ebay's honest desire is grow more private sellers into business sellers , then they drastically need to rethink what they are doing .
The business / private seller can be quite emotive for sellers on both sides and my point is more to highlight the widening void in the middle rather than be judgemental as to how sellers should be categorized etc .

GOING A BIT OF TOPIC I have just returned from a meeting at the Wigan Athletic Stadium It was the DW now called the BRICK STADIUM.. As I came out of the main doors I noticed a cardboard box at the side of the door I thought it was just an empty box I picked it up and saw an, EVRI label addressed to some CIRCUS. That has recently been on a field next to the stadium, the address was THE BOX OFFICE and the post code was the one for the Football Club. I took it back into the Reception and told the Receptionist that this was near the door . She said that the delivery driver had just been in and she had told him that it wasn't for them and that the Circus had moved to Rochdale and the parcel should be returned to the Sender. It appears he had just left it at the side of the front doors Probably took a photo of it to prove he had delivered it.. WHO would choose to use this courier???

eBay have no right to force sellers to upgrade to business sellers, with all the tax implications of 'trading'. A private seller is perfectly entitled to sell off unwanted items, possessions passed down from deceased parents, surplus items from their collections, or from clearing out the loft or garage, without having to declare the proceeds to HMRC.
Quote from gov.uk website:
You’re clearing out your attic and decide to sell your unwanted items using online marketplaces. None of the items you sell are worth more than £6,000.
It’s unlikely that you’ll need to tell us about this income or pay any tax, no matter how many items you sell.
So private sellers are simply that and should resist before forced to upgrade to a business account.
