THIS THREAD IS NOT JUST TO POST COMMENTS THAT ARE NOT FACT.
I hope that there are now plenty of fed up private sellers and buyers who despise these new changes.
Ebay used to be a fun place to buy and sell but recently thanks to the greed of the shareholders and Owners it's becoming intolerable.
Once my last 5 listings hopefully sell there won't be anymore listed until ebay changes and go back to happier times. I even now buy things from companies direct that I once brought on ebay which now looks over their peak and on the downward slippery slope.
Holding payments, charges, and various fees for buyers and sellers are just a few. I cannot now trust or believe what ebay say.

It's hard to believe that nobody else has started any discussion threads already along the same lines.

I think there are individual threads but I thought about one that affects both private sellers and buyers.

Is that a deliberate double negative?
27-02-2025 4:53 PM
Well as a disillusioned buyer on ebay as well as a disillusioned seller I guess it could be.

It was fun, and now it's not. Free to sell on Ebay lasted a very short time. Sold something for just £125 and with the Ebay free to sell (Oops sorry Buyer Protection fee) I paid Ebay £5.50.
Have a few things on Ebay for the next 20 days also and if they don't sell I will move to another site.

I totally agree. I list items starting at a price I'm happy to get and then see that item being a higher price for potential buyers.
Plus I believe that items posted tracked offer a form of protective cover for sellers and buyers.

I can't actually work out whether you want facts or not, but here are some facts.
There is a buyer board, there are hardly any posts about the BPF, most of the posters who reference it are asking what it is, they are not complaining just asking.
Complaints on the buyer board about the BPF are mostly by private selling account holders with the same complaints as are being made on the selling board.
From this I deduce that the main complainers are private account sellers and buyers are no way near as bothered as those sellers would like us to believe.

I guess I am in the minority being a private seller and buyer. Maybe buyers aren't complaining as much but as a seller I have definitely noticed less interest in items I have listed so maybe instead of complaint numbers they just don't buy. After all the price they see is not my actual starting price. As a buyer I don't agree at all with the principle of paying a amount twice. RM 48hr tracked gives a certain level of compensation which covers buyers and sellers. Maybe no good for high value items but covers my needs so I don't know why as a buyer I should need to pay buyer protection aswell just for the sake of shareholders greed.

I doubt you a minority, I'm a collector too. There are loads that post here and almost certainly far more that don't if my field is anything to go by.
But because I basically have to sell something to buy something different the selling side is more important to me.
I have some free cash every month but not enough to indulge my hobbies at any meaningful level. So I sell bits I don't like as much so I can buy things I like more. Well that's the idea anyway. Doesn't always play out, bad photos or packing meaning what I received wasn't to my expectations.

Well, I suspect that the private sellers who are concerned that their buyers are being charged for a " protection" that is actually not a protection, probably are or were actually Buyers. 🤔
27-02-2025 8:25 PM
I agree. I too am a collector like yourself who sells certain items to buy new ones. These changes have definitely affected me negatively as a seller especially as my starting offer price is no longer the starting price a potential buyer sees so as its a higher price some potential buyers just won't bother.
27-02-2025 8:29 PM
Your right. Now seeing that my starting prices are no longer MY starting prices has affected me as a seller and has caused a decrease in things in what I buy.

With the best will in the world surely the brains behind this new buyer protection fee and payout system must think all ebay users are gullible idiots i thought previous to this we had the ebay buyer guarantee plus when linked with tracked postage was ample cover in the case of any problems both buying and selling now they seem to be implementing nothing more as I can see and charging people for the privilege of it and don't get me started on the withholding of funds that clearly is aimed at some sort of financial gain in their favour if they don't want private sellers on ebay why don't they just strip the whole thing back and have a level playing field so everyone knows where they stand I'm pretty sure when I first encountered ebay in the early days it was the initial band of private sellers that built them in to what they have become today but as with most of these large businesses once you have outlived your usefulness your toast and I wish they would take down that stupid sycophantic advert with the tiger lamp about how pleasurable and easy it is to sell on ebay because unfortunately it has become anything but.

TOO MANY CHIEFS AND NOT ENOUGH INDIANS
27-02-2025 8:46 PM
Your post is so so true.
When I started using ebay back in 2005 it was pleasurable to sell and buy.
I also believe they think many users are stupid and gullible (no offense to anyone).
It was so easy for me to notice a lot of this as a seller and buyer. Of course someone is likely to say send items cheaper to reduce the cost but then that will give them longer to hold onto MY money for their gain. It's a lose lose situation which is only leading me to not bother selling and only buying things I actually need unless it's cheaper to buy direct from companies.

Every post like this has some eBay bootlick running people down for complaining and spending all their energy trying to catch private sellers out on being business sellers in disguise.
Keep at posts like this. The more voices the better. Maybe eBay will start to listen.
27-02-2025 8:48 PM
Agreed. Corporate greed and forgetting who actually helped to get them to where they are today.
27-02-2025 8:52 PM
Even they are being noticed more nowadays.
They'll have a hard job to convince me that any of this benefits private sellers and buyers. I just can't and don't trust or believe them anymore.
