NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Whoever wrote the examples in that list has no concept of what will and won't fit in a letter.

'......most won't fit large letter. Look closely and there's a lot more examples that realistically won't fit as letter.'

yep... see also 'Lego'.  In a normal envelope?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

In last weeks chat someone confirmed that large letter was also exempt as well as letter so in that case it would include these items. Can't name them but was a reply to a question

And I think that was speedily (well, within about 24hrs)  'unconfirmed' !

And now, no, large letters are *not* exempt.......

It's all a bit of a circus...🤡 and I'm developing  a bad case of 'coulrophobia'.........😨

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Hope this discussion has an affect and ebay will go back to what it used to be... Not only shipping which the buyer has full control of, but also getting paid within 24 h like it used to be in good old days. Now, this is almost a wishful thinking...

The problem for me is, my items often take months to sell, and most of them are low valued. I tried looking into listing on a few other sites, but you often have to upgrade to be able to sell in a similar way like on ebay. I cannot afford to pay for upgrades - even something like £10/month - I might not even sell enough to balance that. I don't mind paying fee once an item sells - even 14% or whatever ebay used to charge in the past - that's fine - I can just increase the price to compensate this. If ebay had not gone the route they've chosen, it would have continued to be a great place for private sellers like me.

I could only return back as a seller here if ebay went back to the postal, payment and fee systems they used to have. I now too removed all my listings apart from one which I kept as a test (at the moment, I can still choose custom postage). I'd taken all my listings even before the SD was announced because the new payment scheme wasn't acceptable to me. Then, to make matters worse, got the news from my bosses I might be out of work next year, so I put a few more valuable items back. Even if they sold and I had to wait days to get the money, still better than no money at all.. but, it's definitely over with my ebay sales now.

All the best to everyone complaining - and stirring up the anti-ebay sentiment!!! (this phrase was used by somebody in an attempt to shut up the alleged moaners but it only shows we need to keep talking about the current situation if we want change). It might be a drop in the ocean but at least we are letting our opinion known. I still hope that this does lead to some positive change!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Having just read through all of this week's 'Weekly Chat' my disillusionment has only increased!

Another week has gone by and everything feels as if it is just going round in circles with no definitive answers or even suggestions that there will ever be a definitive answer to anything regarding Simple Delivery!

Responses to some questions were almost as if they were answering a different question to the one being asked.

I have almost resigned myself to the thought that this mess is as good as it will get unfortunately; and that is quite sad when you consider how good ebay was and how good it could be.

It's a month since they announced that the 'Simple Delivery rollout would have an impact from 7th April (and still nothing set in stone) and no doubt they were working on it for a long time before that announcement, So, to find so many issues that were immediately pretty obvious to most people that use the site is a genuine concern as to how deeply this has all been thought through!

In the meantime, when my pause runs out I will list for an hour in the middle of the night and then pause for another month to see if anything does become clearer. But, it is all getting too hard now and really not worth the effort.

Life is hard enough for everyone these days without ebay ratcheting up the hassle another notch!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Yes usual confusing answers SD will include large letter, won't include large letter, sometimes might, sometimes might not. SD is being rolled out in April. Now April is over and it's being changed "one account at a time" which could take ? time. Some people will have it , some not. This could go on for months yet.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I don't think it's too much to ask ebay to produce a list of exemptions with items that will fit into Royal Mail's definition of a letter - anything over 5mms thick is too big. Also the exclusion details - i.e. 100g/under £10/letter size is at the bottom of the list. It needs to be clearly displayed at the top. Sellers may only read as far as the category they are looking for and no further. It would save time, effort and confusion.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Quotes from the chat team today that makes things perfectly clear.

"So, at times, you will see it with Simple Delivery, and sometimes you will see it with Simple Delivery. I can see how this can be confusing" (putting this up before they notice and edit)

"Yes, if Simple Delivery kicks in, and Royal Mail designates it as "Large Letter", then you would need to send it using Simple Delivery. Otherwise, you'd need to send it in the old way"

"If you only have Royal Mail enabled as the carrier, and they definitely ship there, I don't think this would be related to Simple Delivery, but maybe something else."

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

This is a screenshot of what ebay said on 31st March about the rollout of SD.

Screenshot 2025-03-31 at 14.14.08.jpg

So it was going to be mandatory for all private sellers from 15th April.  Then it was put back to 28th April.  Now Customer Service has said ""It's been done on a gradual ramp up basis for the month of April.

If your account has not been included as mandatory then it will be included in the next few days.”

So now they’re trying to make out that it was never intended to be mandatory from 15th April.  I’m surprised they’re not crying “fake news”.  Why can’t they just admit that the rollout is causing more problems than they expected and apologise for the delay.   By trying to re-write history, it just confirms that they can’t be trusted over anything they say.

And now it's going to be some time in May, apparently.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I do wish people would stop making up for themselves what they think the BPF is for, and look at what ebay says it's for.

According to ebay it's not the money back guarantee.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I used to really love selling on Ebay, but now I just don't care anymore, they just don't seem to know anything more, it changes daily, I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I put everything over LL 100g on collection only, knowing nothing will sell,  now if LL under 100g sells and they change my post to stupid delivery,  I'm cancelling the sale. If I get penalised for that, it's just too bad.

I’m with you 100%.
The right doesn’t appear to know what the left is doing.
To call something simple when it’s about as far from simple as anything could get is just adding insult to injury.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Why do you think I am making things up ?

What Ebay says about BPF is pretty meaningless .

The reality is if Ebay sell the buyer a postal service  with  compensation then Ebay are responsible to refund the buyer and not the original seller  and that is a significant change .

Given that  , BPF has to be something above and beyond covering for the lost or damaged delivery as that  is  already covered .
