AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I wouldn't wish it on them 😂

What Ebay says about BPF is pretty meaningless .
The reality is if Ebay sell the buyer a postal service with compensation then Ebay are responsible to refund the buyer and not the original seller and that is a significant change .
Given that , BPF has to be something above and beyond covering for the lost or damaged delivery as that is already covered .
And now you are confusing seller protection under SD with what the buyer gets for the BPF.
What ebay says about the BPF has presumably gone though umpteen levels of governance and legal checks; while we may think it is for something other than what they say it is, until someone proves otherwise, we should accept what ebay says it's for.

ebay advised they were dividing the RM Letter/Large Letter option in to separate letter and large letter options. Over the last couple of days I've been trying to revise my listing to the correct options and it isn't working. I select the large letter option and hit save for it to appear on my listing before disappearing a few seconds later. I don't know if it's a separate glitch or the implementation of simple delivery that's messed it up.

Because they are doing it by accounts now in batches/waves some people will still be able to choose advanced and others not. I put some back on and all mine are still with my own postage

But the only thing that BPF can add value to is if the item has been miss-sold and that is covered in Ebay T & C's and Ebay can charge the seller back , and also the return post if the seller insists on the item to be returned
The only thing BPF can realistically offer outside that is a dispute resolution on behalf of the buyer to which the "buyer" pays a premium averaging around 10% of item value . Given it only has limited value the buyer should really be given a choice .
From what I have heard so far Ebay do seem to be acting on their new found responsibilities by refunding buyers without seller intervention and that will be because their lawyers have told them to and that has very little to do with BPF as even if they didn't charge a BPF fee they would have too .
For Ebay BPF had to place before they could impose SD , but that's mainly to protect Ebay than the buyer . The more platforms use BPF the more it is likely to come under the spot light and thanks to Ebay that may now be a bit sooner .

Wouldn't it be good if we could have a double celebration May 8th VE day 🇬🇧 - Victory over eBay day 🥳, highly unlikely though.

So what is the BPF for?
I vaguely remember talk of enhanced access to customer services, or did I dream that?
An actual help desk phone number would appeal to lots of buyers and sellers - Oh I definitely dreamt that part!
SD Fat letter/ Flat letter theories: Anything lumpy put it through a mangle and post as a flat letter....buyer receives item "damaged" and ebay refunds...Simples!

BPF?
It's Buyers Purchasing Fine

'So what is the BPF for?

The BPF covers things that were previously covered by the private seller's fees , when ebay charged those fees.
Ebay decided to make selling 'free' for private sellers for a few months, so apparently they were providing those benefits for free.....briefly.
Obviously that couldn't last long, so they put the fees on to the buyers to recoup some of the lost money.
Ebay tried very, very hard to make the BPF sound like a new wonderful thing that hadn't been there before.
(Seriously?! trying to make 'secure payments', for instance, sound like it was new? the site would *never* have functioned if payments weren't secure.....)
You're not dreaming about the 'enhanced CS' thing.....one of the benefits of the new and wonderful BPF was a 24/7 customer help line for buyers......... (very quickly admitted to being AI out of hours)
An awful lot of the anger about the BPF would have been ameliorated if ebay hadn't talked so much guff about the New, Wonderfullness of it all, and just said 'now we're not charging the sellers fee, we need to get some money in to pay for private sales to function. So we're charging the buyers instead.'
(OK, that's not what the marketing dept would have wanted to say, but at least it would have been more honest. And less enraging!)

Nope. Ebay only (supposedly) pay for 'damages in the post' when the item has been sent SD. The whole point of 'flat letter' as opposed to 'fat letter' is that flat letters are exempt from S.D.
(mental image of a postage mangle made me laugh, mind you! 😂)

No, it's only 'small' (normal) letters that are exempt from S.D. Large letters *do* have to be sent through the S.D. system....... once S.D. does finally become compulsory.
(this answer was a definite answer on the 'weekly chat' today. From Marco.)

So the 24x7 BPF helpline is not even always a human? I must have missed that admission. Is there no limit to how cheapo ebay are being when delivering the unwanted services they are charging at such a high price?
Anyway it's not going to end well for ebay as people will just do their transactions elsewhere.

The more you think about BPF the dafter it gets
What are Ebay or anyone else who use the term Buyer Protecting Fee actually protecting the buyer against . If anyone has any suggestions serious or otherwise feel free to throw them into the pot .
To me BPF is just a marketing term and Ebay have taken it the point of being a scam / racket .
"SD Fat letter/ Flat letter theories: Anything lumpy put it through a mangle and post as a flat letter....buyer receives item "damaged" and ebay refunds...Simples!"
That probably pushes things beyond the limit 🙂 , but as a seller you don't get paid to package it and unless Ebay put a controls in to make sure their nominated courier receive the package in a certain state then it really is Ebay's lookout.
Taking that to the next "logical" step then RM and Evri will need to take a piccy of every package they receive as well as when they deliver .
If only Ebay had a tried and tested system etc which they had worked for years . DOH !
30-04-2025 9:43 PM
Ok then
so how do you get roll of sellotape into a letter 5mm thick max for example
if this is what eBay are suggesting
