NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Are you saying you ignore the labels and post everything as you used to? I dislike SD as much as anyone but I believe it would be for your own good to use the SD labels if you’ve made sales that have generated them.

My apologies if I’ve misunderstood.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

But Royal Mail sets the size now...for ages it has been "size matters"!!!  yes,  from 1" up to 6.3" is abominable.  Very few actual "items" except lots of papers,  or a thin book, are less than 1"  & over the 16cm,  many pieces of china, although light in weight, come bigger than this with all the packing one has to add for safety.  But the strict criteria of E Bay post is infuriating. Also infuriating was their insistence that the level that "the customer" had chosen was not ones' own but they refused to allow you to change it.  Again I always ignored theirs & went direct to Royal Mail,  a bore for the address but........

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Not at all...Not quite sure at what you getting but Royal mail also "protect" you if an item is damaged...a little more complicated but on the whole I rarely get anything damaged. If it does not turn up they can trace it for you even if it was not tracked. I had this complaint from a customer once...Royal mail traced it as having been delivered....&, surprise surprise, customer notified me just a few days later that it had turned up!!!! Hmmmmm

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I’m sorry, I still don’t understand. I’m not ‘getting at’ anything, I think its a fairly straightforward question.

Are you getting the Simple Delivery labels sent through, and not using them?

What you said about tracing and protection sounds as if you are on SD but still buying your own labels direct from Royal Mail.

If so I think this is not a wise thing to do now that the system is taking hold.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

VERY interesting...I only started around 2017 actually although my daughter logged me in around 2010...but i c'dn't work out the site so stayed with Amazon to my detriment....I was selling books only in those days..but their fees are pretty horrific on low priced items....around 45% dropping to not less than 15% & their postal allowance is only £2.80 which is  quite ridiculous on large tomes,  very few books are less than 1"...& Amazon have not changed this for over 4 years!!
So when i started downsizing I added many other household items & fancy stuff. EBay was perfect for these.
You are very brave to leave them however...where are you trying now? However, with over 1200 items I just cd not do it...it has taken me the 7 years to build this up & probably many are overpriced, hence the low sales!! But i cannot go through my listings,  being of an age now when everything is twice as difficult to manage, lowering prices & adding my new "riders" to them. On moral grounds I am reimbursing customers with this protection tax & counting it as our sellers fees again. For another thing this is detrimental to private sellers because it gives the "big boys" an added advantage apart from their extra discounts on bulk mailing & getting many of their books for free from various overstocked charities. Many charities mind you now have a special dedicated EBay listing anyhow. AND I bet that they do not pay income tax on their sales. Apologies...a long rant.!!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Ah,  just re-read your post...no I am NOT buying a label from EBay.....I change to the Royal Mail site...do the necessary... then put the tracking code onto the items details. Horrors if they charge you as well but I don't think so...for sometimes folks send them post free, (as well, NOW,  as a charge on their non existent postal charge if you follow me...If someone sells an item, post free, one thus takes the £2,50, £3,50 or whatever it costs off the price of the item surely?  For example If someone sells a 1" thick item for £10  say, post free. lets us say it costs £2.20 for a bulk posting...yes? so they get 7.80 for said item,  less a fee if they are a business.  Now if a private seller does the same,  they  have around £1.30 excess on this for the customer protection  paying around 40p more on their postage.so the customer has to pay £11.30 ..so the customer buys the same item from the business seller as it is still only £10. Not very well explained but I hope that you get my meaning. The business seller gets more sales,  the private buyer less sales. It is better to lower ones price a little & charge (non taxed/protected) extra postage.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I fear that I am no longer capable of starting anew...will just have to struggle on,  reimbursing folk, taking more time getting R.M. labels direct...hoping we dont get slammed too much By HMRC!!!. Otherwise it will be charity shops & twiddling thumbs!!!!  have to offer our limited help to said charity shops.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Yup,  I spoke to a Bulgarian by name of Dori...he didnt have much clue either...I wanted an explanation of their break down on the "protection tax"  where they say...."up to 75p an item"   which of course explains why low priced items seem to have a higher percentage than others as it seems the percentage is around 5% flat.  But the SD can just be circumnavigated by going direct to RM  a bore but the principle is at stake.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I’m afraid I find your posts very difficult to understand but I think you have misunderstood a lot about the way ebay postage and fees work and you may be doing something that will end up costing you a lot and falling foul of the new rules.

If you are offering ‘free postage’ you will be paying two lots of postage, to ebay and then to Royal Mail.

If the buyer is paying you will not get the money that they have paid for the label.

Do you have a phone for QR codes or a printer for the labels? If so the new system could suit you very well.

You can turn off Evri in your settings and just have Royal Mail as your postage and still go to the post office.

Leave it as ‘buyer pays’, and you don’t have to be worried about the price or protection as ebay cover the parcel for up to £750 while in transit.

If you are being sent SD labels you should use them - Many on here have said that they cannot and so have decided to stop selling. Avoiding it by just carrying on as before is not a solution.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Hmm...well I am still refusing to use their delivery label...I have just sent an expensive book via RM tracked direct..it was just under £100 inc their tax, it was entered about 2 years ago & the buyer did not mention the extra £4,50.so I didnt offer my latest reimbursement "out of principle, count it as we had to pay charges before October.".....I have no indication that it will go pear shaped...done it quite a few times. If an item is REALLY expensive,  say over £200 I generally send it next day 1pm signed / tracked...worth the extra £5.  RM offers their own "insurance" up to £500.
I am intent on downsizing so must continue!!!! What concerns me is that they will come to the state where we are charged for a label whether we use it or not...same way as Govt is forcing us to have "smart meters" in August.  It is a little like Amazon actually..we are allowed £2.80,  which is added on to our selling price.& taken from the customer along with the selling price.....ridiculously low...if the item is very small we win,  but that is very rare with the cost of postage these days!!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The only genuine advantage , if I was currently  selling,  is I wouldn't have to cut down some rather nice oversize boxes to conform

In terms of RM is anything can go Meduim packets  regardless of the fact that probably 90% will be Small packets then that has to factored in to the price . But if that statement is true any item that get sent by RM new custom Ebay delivery service ( which is what it is ) should never be more than the current on-line price of £3.45 ( I think) if it is not then Ebay are overcharging which some posts seem to suggest

Given it looks like Ebay have provided 5 click boxes it does beg the question why they don't but back on dimension boxes then rather have AI guess it could process that accurately and other a best priced service.  If Ebay actually refined size and weight probably they would get a better deal for their customers !

As a  Seller apparently I am still responsible for packing and part of that responsibility is declaring the weight and size to ever may carry or handle the package . Without have tried this I might still have that opportunity if I had to book collection on the RM site as that is how it works regardless of what you paid for RM ask this question as if the posties is going to pick up 10 x  2KG he needs to know

However as a Seller under SM all I legally have to do is attach a postage label to my item and just hand to a courier and once they accept it , its not my responsibility

The more the actual handlers, posties and postmasters  work out about this shabby deal the more resistance it will create .

As I think someone has already said currently SM is not fit for purpose any any responsible Business would stop it immediately .

Please Ebay start listening

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

i went to bid on an item and when it came back that i was outbid and to bid again it had changed to only showing collection in person!   Back on the original list it still showed other options.  I did not risk it so someone lost a higher bid.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

so what happens if you sell something for say £12 and have included (in your mind) that the item is say £8 and postage £4).  You then ignore the SD label and send by RM paying yourself, so what happens?  If it does not turn up then you would be out the item and the money, basically what happens already under the old system as e bay always side with the buyer for lost or damaged items.  Okay you would have to wait for the money from e bay because you apparently would not be able to put your own tracking number in but what else is against it?

Someone recently posted that the date now for SD being mandatory is the 28th April.  Big apologies just cannot remember who quoted this but it was from a long time poster, suppose we'll just wait and see.

Some peeps are reporting though,  that their current  active listings are being changed over to SD postage,  so looks like it hasn't been shelved just delayed......  again !🤔
