NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

so the question is what if - (have not used SD and do not intend to) someone puts in and says the item is under 100g (and it is not)  and under £10?  Does that enable you to do your own postage whatever the size of the item???

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Under £10, yes. Doesn't have to be under 100g either, I seem to be able to list all sizes of package without Simple Delivery as long as the buy now price is under £10. No idea what happens if it's an auction that starts at £5 but sells for £15 though!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I don't understand myself sometimes!!

When I looked at the invoice to a buyer (just to see if eBay had fiddled with my postage) I noticed that the bpf wasn't on the invoice, (but is shown on my sold item). So I click on send invoice, I would think it would arrive with buyer in the same condition I sent it, but obviously eBay "grab it midway" between me and buyer and change the total. I told hubby about it and he said "it all sounds a bit horizons!"

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Just a reminder to withdraw your sales money manually ASAP so Ebay can't use it in any way. I've just withdrawn the last of mine so there's no money in my Ebay account.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Trying to make sense of what Ebay are actually doing , my opinion is Simple Delivery as change is simply not a case of Simple delivery roll out  there is far more to it

Where as Free to Sell and BPF were interim changes  , I believe Simple Delivery is major code change  that allows the deployment of  "AI" across other functions for the future . I don't like the term AI as it  just an organised expansion of what people have been for doing years in computing

Apparently Ai is used for Simple delivery calculation but why they could just keep the dimensions and weight fields  of the listing page defeats me as that would could be fed into the AI engine and postage could be worked out properly and accurately .  The best decisions are always made using the facts available

SD also opens up other things and there have been hints that Ebay resolving issues that previously been resolved by sellers  (with Ebay looking over their shoulder) .  I think this resolution may now be semi automated  and AI presents a solution to the buyer which if they accept it is  automatically processed and refunds accordingly . There are hints that when this happens the  seller is not being left out of pocket but it is very difficult to have any degree of certainty with out find  a lot more examples and such resolutions are only applicable to small percentage of all transactions. Whilst resolutions are needed rarely they costly in just time alone and anything that streamlines that process is a significant cost saver

In terms of BPF  that is far more tangible reason , then the current published reasons .  However if my speculation is true A1 and resolution could encourage fraud  .

The danger of AI it is only as good as  the logic behind it and  I think we are already seeing signs of flawed logic  with inconsistent postage prices on items etc .

A problem Ebay have is with a  lot of experienced seller not on a sales boycott they some of these issues are not going to be exposed so quickly

I believe if  Ebay are going to revert back , then they need to be convinced that the current complaints are not just a hiccup and their approach is fundamentally flawed. It could be the eventual solution that Ebay re-engineer SD  AI code to remove SD if they are going to have a worse response when they enforce it on business sellers as well .  Which they will do at some stage as  you simple can't have the 2 tier selling for long

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That is interesting to know , as having stopped selling you don't actually see how things work

The final transaction details should clearly mark down if BPF is legitimate , the amount you sold  it for ( the amount you sold to Ebay for ) , the BPF amount ( as that is effectively your sales charge and should be used as such for accounting purposes)  and the sale amount with BPF  ( the amount Ebay sold to the buyer)

As things stand Ebay are telling you your item sold  for £X+BPF but paying you just £X which make BPF a selling fee that you have paid

If Ebay are not making their invoices / transaction details clear then that is another reason for complaining to the world and his wife .   I wonder what the HMRC would think of Ebay's account of the transaction .  Regardless of what Ebay claim BPF to me it should be clearly separated .

My opinion is Ebay are now selling the item on to the buyer and it would be interesting to get a get a proper  Legal opinion of the new set-up

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Invoices show as you mention to begin with.

Subtotal (the amount the seller wanted)

BPF

eBay delivery (postage)

Postage VAT

Order total

It looks pretty legit but can't imagine eBay skipping on it.

Well it isn't on my invoice, separately or together.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Ebay get all my money before giving me my bit so there is no need to surreptitiously change the invoice mid flight. They were able to take the seller fees before giving me the rest, why not bpf.

Why what is the hurry? I'm still selling, do I need to worry about something I don't know about??

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Mmm maybe it comes out differently on the app.

On a laptop it looks different to yours, even the order summery shows all the details.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

There was some discussion as to whether Ebay 'used' payments in some way. You don't have to, it wasn't an order! More a suggestion.

You've got some nice items by the way.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Thank you.... trying to shift stuff atm lol. Yes I appreciate it was a suggestion. Just thought I'd missed something. They can still access your bank anyway so what's the difference. Once I'm paid for today's sendings, I'll take it out I think. Thanks.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That's exactly what I did every time. As soon as MY money was available to withdraw i withdrew it. I'm now getting silly messages like "Buy To Save" which is a joke. There is no way that I'll be convinced that I can save by buying because of the farce called BPF.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's not earning me any interest kept here, so I might as well shove it in my admittedly very low interest account! I'm unlikely to buy anything on here either, but 'if' I should, easy enough procedure to pay for it.

You earning interest on your money is much better than interest being earned on your money that you'll never see if it's left here.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That is what is so iniquitous, it puts up our prices and trying to compete with the big whole seller boys is bad enough at the best of times, especially in my case when I sell mainly Books. That is why I am now putting a rider that I will refund the extra.’ tax.’ as, apart from small priced items, is only half of what they used to charge u, a bore, but we have to fight back. I am also where possible putting my true postage in with my explanation again to put two fingers up at E Bay, rather childish but satisfying!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Great post. SD is not and will never be my choice of postage options. SD affected me as a private seller, and BPF has affected me regarding buying. So as I was someone who did both, these changes have done absolutely nothing to benefit me.
