NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

'eBay had US$7.43b of debt, at December 2024, which is about the same as the year before. You can click the chart for greater detail. However, it does have US$5.90b in cash offsetting this, leading to net debt of about US$1.53b  eBay had liabilities of US$6.10b falling due within a year, and liabilities of US$8.11b due beyond that. On the other hand, it had cash of US$5.90b and US$1.19b worth of receivables due within a year. So its liabilities outweigh the sum of its cash and (near-term) receivables by US$7.13b.'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Er...... sorry to sound thick, but what does that all mean? (in English...)

Are ebay doing OK? Are they in debt?  Are they in deep trouble or are they just fine?

🤔

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I never expected this or any platform to be totally free. However, it is how things are done and what changes are done that matters. It has been confirmed that interest is made due to sellers money being held. All people want is transparency and proper communication. Having things like BPF, and SD being made compulsory and changing things with only the minimum notice that needs to be given does not imply that any of this benefits private sellers or buyers.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Marketing in the UK has to be trueful though!

I'm happy (well not happy, but prepared at least!) to pay for a service, and Ebay provides a service. But this a mess!

This is a good example of the mess with SD. It's worth between £6 and £8 - could sell for up to £12 on a good day. (I hope I'm not proved wrong now!)

But does not need postage at £3.60- with second class delivery and a certificate of posting it would cost around a quid to send and is insured to £20.

This reminds me of my husband when he starts talking about the weather the average temperatures, the percentage chances of whatever mph winds and depth of precipitation over how many hours..

I just want to know if I need a coat. 🤔

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

well it means that they had debt at the end of 2024 and it was the same as the year before ,but as they had some cash reserves they could pay off some of the debt if they needed too but it would still leave them with debt.

It will be interesting how they fare the first quater of this year after introducing BPF and SD and so many sellers leaving the site ,probably weren't expecting it . Compared with some other platforms Ebay seem to be doing alright but time will tell

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I didn’t ‘get’ your finance post either but as a layman like Lucy I think there will be a lull now - but by Autumn when Christmas starts to cross both the minds of buyers and sellers again the vast majority who leave will be back, as despite the bluster of many on here, there really isn’t a viable alternative for quick internet selling at decent prices.

And no, if we all move to the similar sounding platform, the buyers won’t follow us.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Scroll down to q and a here

click the + sign where it says which listings  are not required to be sent with simple delivery

theres a whole host of things added as exemptions , I’m sure the bank notes should be included

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/postage/simple-delivery

at least that’s how I’m reading it ..but I can’t be sure these days in the constantly changing messaging

a few days ago large letters could only be sent via simple delivery, it seems it’s changed cos half those things would never fit in an envelope

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

But this is no longer a great place for quick selling and good prices. It used to be until all these fairly recent changes have turned this into a place that people will only use if they can't find what they want elswhere and if people can't sell things and be more positive that people will buy.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That is not a comprehensive list only. They are only sample examples.

Apart from coins, stamps event tickets and video games these have no sub category.

Stamps is now confusing as initially the exemption was for unused stamps that may still be used, now it appears to include all the subcategories as well, ie used , 1st day covers basically anything collectable or valuable.

Maybe somebody realised that a KGV £1 green was worth about £1000. A big difference from a knock down bundle of usable 2nd class Xmas stamps

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

As I said it was odd , as have been some of your comments, which is why I looked in the 1st place.

In regards to odd comments this is yet another one , in which you seem to be justifying BPF .

as for some unpublished aspect of the BPF. How about the bit you didn’t mention? A secure payment system. I’d say this is what eBay are covering with buyer protection fee (in the main)

A secure payment is mandatory requirement for Ebay as a business , and that has to be updated as technology updates . As all buyers now pay  Ebay  using an existing  secure payment system . It is not a unique element to buyer protection and again its mind boggling why Ebay make this statement  .

I have now made a search on you new  userid  on Ebay advanced search  and it does link me to the right place .  It could be as you say a quirk of Ebay forum , I wouldn't  know as I have never changed my userid  but looking at the broken URL string I can see a reason why may have wanted to change it . 🙂

And for the third time…

Why were you looking at my feedback? Did I say something ‘odd’?

Come the pre - Christmas season it will still be the best bet for selling, even if it isn’t what it used to be.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I am sorry I haven't responded but I have been out all day

I am sorry if this has caused a problem but I was curious as to why you had automated feedback in your feedback profile as I was under the impression the automated feedback was part of the intended SD rollout and not yet implemented . Unfortunately Ebay block a direct reply to any Emails so replying by the post is the only option

I apologise if I missed any response to this and also if it upset you by publishing a sale but I was specifically interested in the automated feedback and how it happened . The link to everyone's feedback is in the "public domain" and there is a direct link from  this page .

Whilst I would agree that your response to me has been gracious as have your posts .

The same can't be said for the other person you have mentioned who for whatever reason  only known  to himself seems post some pretty contentious comments , which is  why I responded to him in the manner I did this morning .

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

In answer to that direct question the only reason I looked at you feedback in the 1st place is you feedback score 25 is pretty low compared to a lot of people on this thread and I wouldn't have said anything it wasn't for the 2 automated feedback entries .

Automated feedback is another contentious issue with SD  although its probably not the most talked about

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

How is automated feedback a contentious issue with Simple Delivery?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Thank you for answering. Inspecting my feedback to that extent because 25 is low is in my opinion very odd behaviour.  What on earth could you possibly glean from it? I don’t expect a reply.

The amount of fb I have on the account I choose to post from means absolutely nothing.

And how is automated feedback contentious? Its pointless, unless maybe you have no feedback, but surely there’s no actual problem with it.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

This has been mentioned a few times on this post but not by me, so I might not be the best person to answer that

By some it could be viewed as a benefit I suppose as your star rating will increase regardless of whether the user choose to post feedback or gets round to it in timely manner .

However I think quite a few people believe that by auto mating feedback you negate the value of seller feedback as it is no longer genuine feedback from the seller .  To me it all depends on the time window allowed for the buyer to post feedback .

If its after 30 days then it could be a benefit but if its less then a couple of days after delivery then genuine feedback from buyers will be lost.

From my own personal experience the current feedback set-up means I tend to leave feedback as buyer latter than I used to . As a seller I always try to leave it when the package is actually despatched

However is supposed to be a new feature of SD

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I think the introduction is a general thing from the way ebay announced it in the latest business update/seller news. I don't think its a new feature of SD.
