AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I really don't know, the whole thing's a minefield

"Just think how great it would be if everyone on here made a report."
The more, the better.
Formal complaints direct to eBay.
Followed by complaints/reports to the CMA or Financial Ombudsman.

My report was noted and passed to the relevant place by them

The request for providing NI is probably due to HMRC reporting requirements, so when your sales figures go over to HMRC it will include the NI number which is a more useful reference for HMRC. I assume it will also be used to check who is registered as a business or sole trader as its the best unique reference for each of us.

I stopped selling on ebay a few months ago for the same reasons.

There is nowhere to input weight. Same concept as before by selecting the correct postage service by weight and parcel dimensions you are implicitly selecting a weight range for your parcel

Ebay are Hiding Buyer Protection cost from Sellers, So you sell an item for £10 ebay slap one £4 buyer protection plus postage cost. Seller thinks he is selling for £10 but in reailty it’s £14 ebay taking a chunk without telling the seller. Buyer Declines the sale and Seller is stuffed. Simple Delivery is where Ebay take another chunk of money by giving the seller a cheap 3day evri label from the price of next day delivery. Which the seller can not change. Its all doom and gloom. I think the ebay CEO has no clue whats going on with Ebay.

I regularly use EVRI QR codes and they have always worked. However I have had issues with Amazon return QR codes not working. I've found that by zooming in on QR code to make it bigger in my phone display they then worked. I now zoom all Amazon QR codes before scanning. Worth trying that next time. Not sure about PO scanners but Evri you can manually enter in the code normally shown under the graphic image.

If you use evri direct You can send restricted items but you won’t get compensation if they’re lost of damaged
if you use evri via ebays SD …there isn’t a clear message IMO if those items will be compensated for loss or damage
one eBay statement says one thing ie you ca send fragile items with SD and be covered if they’re packed properly…but they also say you have to ship in accordance with the couriers policies
i Don’t know what that actually means

Well i'm not using anyone because i'm not selling anything it's all a load of unnecessary tripe as far as i'm concerned. All this is to force people to be a business and even though it's been plugged endlessly it hasn't worked, any of it. Even the pluggers seemed to have disappeared

The 30 items sold per annum is driven by HMRC reporting requirements so if you sell more than 30 items per year, ebay will report this (and your earnings) to HMRC as required by them under UK digital sales reporting legislation. This level of 30 items is not a limit on what you can sell it is the limit where HMRC will be notified. If your total cash value is under the £1740? (side hustle) allowance you do not need to declare this as an income to HMRC in your tax return. So in theory your friend could sell around 1740/3 (580) = items without having to pay tax. If she sells more then she should declare and only pay tax on the extra earned. Hope that helps

"however, regarding the BPF, it appears that the Financial Ombudsman is the direction I should take, as eBay's regulated by the FCA (already confirmed)..."
In case you didn't see a previous post I made (can't remember whether it was on this thread or another one), the following might interest you. Particularly "Unjust Enrichment" as ebay have confirmed that they do earn interest (or at least they did in 2023, I don't know if that is still the case). https://www.valueaddedresource.net/ebay-payment-terms-update-october-2023/

I believe if you “side hustle” you don’t need to tell hmrc about it until it’s over 1000£ earnings not 1740

Let's face it, they're not hanging onto our money just 'for safe keeping'.
I've notice that recently, instead of funds becoming available on the stroke of midnight on the date they're scheduled for 'release', it's typically now not until early to mid-mornings - yesterday, the money for a few transactions didn't become available until sometime between 8.00-9.00am, and another over an hour later....

£1740 is the monetary limit at which ebay passes selling details to HMRC. Once a business seller's (I dislike side hustle) takings tops £1000 they are required to declare the income to HMRC. This £1000 is before deductions and includes things like postal charges so can be achieved quite quickly.

eBay didn't request my details for HMRC until 23rd March - by then, my number of sales for the 24-25 fiscal year was somewhere in the low-80s, whilst the gross monetary total for the entire tax year was eventually under £1200*.
If they are meant to inform HMRC when sales exceed one or the other threshold, then eBay was some five months late in doing so with me, as I passed the 30 transactions mark in Oct...
*For anyone unaware, you can view the breakdown of your monthly sales figures on your 'Seller Dashboard' page..

As a business seller ebay didn't ask for my National Insurance number until last month when I expected to be approached a lot earlier. March seems to be the month in which ebay has begun collecting National Insurance numbers from existing sellers - business & private. I read somewhere that they have had extra time to do so.

I thought the £1000 limit was for trading not any money earned outside payee
ie selling your private used stuff on eBay

Another thought has just occurred regarding that 'Unjust Enrichment' clause...
....I've seen a number of posts now about eBay not refunding un-used Simple Delivery postage for 30 days - are they seriously going to claim that they're not earning interest on those funds while they're holding them for that length of time?
Interest is generally accrued monthly - but I'm sure it's mere co-incidence that eBay now happens to be hanging onto more of other people's money for a month...
