AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

As a someone that have ongoing legal case against Evri (criminal & civil against them) I simply do not accept anything from evri and they do not deliver to my address. Going back to Amazon. Most of items from business is in 95% way overpriced vs Amazon not mentioning online shops.

I agree. It's great news for genuine private sellers.

One sale today with Simple delivery Ebay chose Everi £2.87 + 57P VAT = £3.44

I have no idea why you’ve gone to the effort of all those paragraphs to explain how good your feedback is.
I’m not talking about collectors selling on goods after they’ve held them in their collection for a year or so. Ignore this group.
im talking about private sellers clearly selling handmade goods, plants or products that clearly are not collectible goods like packaging or Chinese mass produced goods. There are enough I’ve seen where they are quite clearly trading.

An earlier post stated that "SD is clearly not ready............" which is true but I believe that the vast majority of us would agree that "SD is clearly not required".

Been trying to PM you since last night but I keep getting an error of either "too many messages sent please try later" or "authentication failed blah blah blah...." they both seem very fishy as my message count was under 10 for the day......they also flagged up f l e e ce b a y in my message. Are they snooping on private messages now too?

Of course they are, that's why you can't send personal contact information to others.

Just a thought, as only medium size parcel is available maybe everyone should post even the tiniest item in a large 61 x 46 x 46 box and see what RM think about it after they receive hundreds of large boxes to fill their vans. Also if they are accepting wrong weights does this also mean wrong size boxes? could we send in a very large box and not be penalised if Ebay determines our parcel is medium size?

'......but I'm not sure HMRC see it like that. I think it partly depends on whether you go over the £1000 allowance that HMRC give you, but there are other caveats as well. Ebay are now legally obliged to report to HMRC any sellers who sell more than 30 items per calendar year or have a sales value of £1700+. As I understand it, HMRC would then want you to do a self-assessment and you'd probably end up paying tax (possibly only on the excess over £1000 .....'
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do *not* worry about the £1000. limit if you are a genuine private seller.
The £1000 is the 'trading allowance' for traders (i.e. businesses) who have sold very little.... otherwise it'd be called a 'selling your own stuff' allowance 😊
There is no limit to 'selling you own stuff' provided none of the single sales were over the £6000. CGT limit (and who the heck is going to sell a 6 grand thingummy on ebay!! talk about scary 😱...)
Ebay do have to send financial details to HMRC of anybody who goes over the selling limit (the 30 items/£1750. thing) but what HRMC do with those details, in the majority of cases is probably *nothing*.
When your details go into the HMRC number cruncher, it will be looking to see how those sales were made. It will be looking for profits from: lots of 'brand new' items, lots of multiples of the same brand new things, new clothes and shoes in different sizes, lots of 'consumables' (consumables being very difficult to be second hand!).... all blinding give aways of selling as a business.
If you don't have these sort of multiple red-flags in your selling records, HMRC will not be interested. 😊

"As a someone that have ongoing legal case against Evri (criminal & civil against them) I simply do not accept anything from evri and they do not deliver to my address."
Evri doesn't deliver to one of my repeat buyer's address because of ongoing disputes which he's been engaged in with them, over multiple non-deliveries of items - if I recall correctly, there is/was the possibility of legal action being taken against them...

Generally yes IMO but how desperate HMRC is to squeeze a little more in tax out of ordinary people will also come into it.
It's a case of the powers that be knowing that it's easier to squeeze little people who can't fight back than going for the rich who can flee to tax havens or corporations who will pay lawyers to fight back.
I read the other day that US tech giants are paying 2% tax in the UK. It didn't mention ebay but I'd guess they're in the same bracket.

Good point; govts are always desparate to 'pluck the maximum of feathers with the minimum of hissing' 😆
But if that squeezing goes against their own guidelines, they're not going to get very far!

Re HMRC, eBay demanded my NI details just a few weeks ago, as I'd exceeded the thresholds (90 sales, slightly under £1,200 for the year) - in my instance, however, as I offer 'Free postage', once the cost of that is deducted (90 x £2.69) the total 'income' comes down to around £950...
....to be on the safe side, I took a screenshot of the transactions/total amount from my 'Seller Dashboard' to provide to our accountant when we submit the 2024-25 figures for our now-closed (non-retail) business - as he and I share the same hobby, he's already aware that I've sold numerous parts of my accumulated 'stash' here, and has previously advised that I didn't need to declare any of it, but I've got the proof now, just in case...

Ebay have the Royal Mail sizes totally wrong. According to Ebay if you post a 'small parcel' ie anything up to 1kg the box size can be 61cm x 46cm x 46cm. Royal Mail's maximum box size for small parcels is 45cm x 35cm x 16cm. I can assure you if you turn up at the post office and your box is over that size it will not be accepted as a small parcel even if Ebay say it will.

I have also noted on a separate thread that the quoted compensation by ebay for particular RM services is not aligned with that of RM.
Just one example. On ebay It says no compensation available for Tracked 48 . However, It states up to £150 on RM.
It's a mess.

I've just draft listed a 7" vinyl record and it still allowed me to select the advanced postage option (Large Letter over 100g). From what I can see my live listings are also currently unaffected by the supposed Simple Delivery migration. I'd love to think the powers that be have had a change of heart but I seriously doubt it.
As an aside, I used to average 2-3 sales per week prior to the implementation of their dumb buyer protection fees. I've managed just one sale since and hardly any views.
Another clueless business decision by eBay!

I suspect that, as with the introduction of the Buyer Protection Racket, it's simply taking time to roll out across all the categories and individual listings therein - BPF didn't appear on any of my listings until two weeks after the 'start date'...
....I just checked one of my draft listings, and 'Custom Postage' and my choice of Yodel are still present...

The reason I am trying to explain my position is the bit of Ebay of blurb which you quote is fundamentally wrong and miss leading
"An eBay seller MUST register as a business if, for example, they sell items they have bought to resell, they make items in order to sell them, or if they buy items for their business."
The only reason an Ebay seller must register as a business seller if they are actually trading as a registered business . It has nothing to do with what they buy and sell and their reasons to do it or what they may make . I don't think you can currently register as an Ebay business seller now unless you can prove that are a registered business
I think the blurb you have quoted relates to a time when Ebay were trying to encourage Private sellers to become business seller for their own aims , and Ebays pre-requisites to qualify were different
It is wrong for people who actually trade as a recognised business to sell these goods as private seller but it is not wrong for an private seller to buy and sell things to make some money , as that is why Ebay exists in the 1st place .
Ebay and VTD simply would not exist if all that was ever sold was people getting rid of their unwanted clutter. To me trading is part of my hobby and I trade in what is my hobby . I even sell things that I have made as I enjoy making things . At the end of the day I make money , but it really isn't that much and just pays for other aspects of my hobby .
As said before Ebay lost the plot I was probably paying them on average £500/ year . When you scale that up to how many Private Sellers like me they have alienated that is substantial amount of money Ebay will lose .
