NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"When I stopped selling, I decided to have a look and see how much I made in the last year. It was so low that I was honestly embarrassed that I'd put so much effort in for so little reward"

Most of my items were vintage and low priced, and I didn't get rewarded for the amount of effort either, but I didn't want to dispose of items that might have been just what someone else was looking for.

I could have thrown away a 1955 record catalogue, but amazingly it was just what someone in Australia wanted.  I sold it via the Global Shipping program - and because I had to use a printed label (which I don't normally do), it turned out to be the wrong label for the wrong size of package - twice! - and I ended up having to apply for two refunds.  That was my one and only sale with the Global Shipping program, and I opted out after that debacle.  No way am I going to use ebay's labels again!

At least you tried using their labels. I'm not even going to try one. I'm enjoying the taking the easy option out lol.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Yes. This is something I think a lot of the business sellers who comment don't understand about those of us who are not so money orientated. We look at things from a sharing mentality, so we sell things for a bargain and try to make the experience as nice as possible for the buyer by treating them how we would hope to be treated. We feel an empathy. It's a two-way street. We may use up more of our time than it's really worth, but at least our items go to someone else who will appreciate them and not to landfill. That's a genuine win-win for buyer, seller, and planet, not the fake win-win where only eBay wins and everyone else loses (take note, Eve!).

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I could tell it was all becoming like a runaway train, so I got off in January. I imagine it like an undergorund train, where I got off at the station and watch everyone else disappear into the tunnel to who knows where...... (I'm waving).....

Maybe the next stop could be a seller fulfilment centre to rival Amaz**?

Hmmm... let's see what the search engine has to say about that... Oh, this from 2001: "eBay launches fulfilment for UK sellers to deliver end-to-end logistics management"

eBay fulfilment by Orange Connex offers the following benefits:

  • Next day delivery option and same-day dispatch with late order cut-off times
  • Fully tracked and transparent* service
  • Full seller protection against delivery-related defects and resulting negative feedback
  • Fulfilment for all sales channels - whether you’re selling on your eBay shop or a shop on another platform
  • Delivery within the UK with plans to roll out internationally in the near future. Sellers participating in the Global Shipping Programme will already be able to integrate with this fulfilment service to ship internationally.
  • Dedicated fulfilment seller portal and support team

This all sounds familiar. Whatever happened to this? Did it actually happen. There was a lot of noise about it in 2021. But I never heard about it. Did it fall by the wayside? Was it just hot air? Maybe it's one of the exciting plans for 2025 - a revival of this idea?

(*transparent - really?! LOL)

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

EVRI
My PO does not take Evri due to the petrol station half a mile away has had the franchise for years. Also space can be a problem and my Yodel shop frowns on size and weight if approaching 10kg. Fortunately two others in spitting distance so great flexibility and best prices but now banned from using Yodel.4

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

This is the latest message I've sent to ebay during the delisting of my items:

I am ending all my listings due to Simple Delivery being imposed upon us. So I will not be contributing to CEO Jamie Iannone's “new revenue stream for ebay”, which is how he described Simple Delivery. IMO ebay has become a greedy behemoth, finding ever new ways to feed off its customers to satisfy its voracious appetite. It’s not my idea of how a good company conducts itself. I no longer want to be associated with it, either as a seller or a buyer, so unlike the "boiled frog", I'm getting out.

It’s been pointed out to me that some people might read my reference to the “boiled frog” in the message I sent to ebay when delisting, as a reference to an individual 😮 😮 😮  OMG, absolutely not - as I put in the original post, Google “boiled frog analogy” if anyone hasn’t come across the term before, but if anybody didn’t see my suggestion to Google it, then please let me clarify that it’s a metaphor as mentioned half a dozen or so posts above.

Mods - if you read this, would you please pass on my apologies and clarification to whoever reads the comments during the end-listing process.  It never occurred to me that my message could be taken that way until it was pointed out to me, and I’m mortified that people might think I could be so rude.  I’ll be more than happy for my original post and this one to be taken down if you think fit, and for my end-listing comment to be wiped as it seems open to misinterpretation (I think I ended the last 5 listings with that message).

I’ll repeat the AI explanation: "the boiling frog metaphor illustrates how people can become complacent and fail to react to gradually worsening situations, ultimately leading to a catastrophic outcome".  The metaphorical frog was in a pot of water and did not notice it getting progressively hotter and hotter until it was too late and it died.  The incremental changes at ebay have made the metaphorical water hotter and hotter, but unlike the frog, I’ve jumped out in time by clearing all my listings so that I don’t have to use Simple Delivery.

I’m so sorry if anybody took it any other way.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I've reported you for animal cruelty. Under no circumstances should you be boiling frogs! Hahaha

Or did you mean you are boiling people from France, because if that's the case it's a police matter! Hahaha

Just kidding.

But seriously, you don't need to be apologising to people who don't understand metaphors. They are a part of every day life and people hear metaphors all the time. Clearly you didn't intend any ill intent and you even said that it is a boiling frog analogy, so if someone doesn't know what that is, they can look it up. We're all on the internet. No need to walk on eggshells around the lazy and ignorant.

Edit: Aplogies to anyone who may be offended by anything in my post. The first two lines are jokes and those are not intended to hurt anyone at all. If anyone is upset then I am really sorry and I beg for your forgiveness on bended knees and will of course walk on eggshells in future.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

apart from the ethics i should imagine it could get very messy putting the same item on more than one platform.    With my jigsaws I sold them at both car boot and e bay but always took them off e bay on the sunday morning if there were no bids on them and put them back on in the afternoon.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

for one thing i would imagine if i were looking to sell on a platform i would be put off if i saw i had to wait up to two weeks for payment!   Prepared to accept it on here because my previous experiences have been positive with sales/purchases but if i were not a seller already i would not have been.  BPF does not bother me, someone buying used clothes generally is looking for specifics so would be prepared to pay a bit extra.  SD is just something i will not do.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The customer comes first - what eBay have forgotten in it's relentless search for profit is that a private seller is a customer. I was one of those who celebrated when eBay abandoned final value fees for private sellers, but then wondered what would replace it. Premium protection - even for personal collection and now contract postage rates with a profit margin; and no margin for the cost of packaging itself. All my items will now be listed as collection only - but I expect to sell fewer and fewer and fewer.......

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Fleece bay are treating all private sellers and buyers for now as the frog , hoping we will not notice the changes and then by killing 2 birds with 1 stone by getting rid of private sellers or fleecing the buyers  by getting them to pay for services not required
