AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Something I have thought about in terms of the CMA stuff it not just Ebay seller it is other couriers and as well in a what looks like cosy deal between RM & Evri and there is scope for other interest parties to get involved . To be honest I think Evri are just along for the ride as the biggest carrot is for with Royal mail.
My feeling are although Ebay will be charging the same fees using as RM and Evri charge on line there has be some financial advantage on this cosy closed agreement to the point that must be getting a degree of commission to make it a money spinner. Not sure if Ebay do this at present if you use Ebay to buy the label , which is actually a good clever service and does make it genuinely easier for buyers with forcing them to do anything.
A part from if there is such an agreement I think then that is something the CMA will be interested in . You also need to consider if you go to the Post Office you pay significantly more than RM on line rate.
However I think to gain any such agreement Ebay may not have been totally honest and if RM understood the real picture they might want to drop this immediately. Any figures and forecasts would have been made since Ebay removed selling fees and before the implementation of "Buyer Protection" . That period is going to inflate the amount of package being posted with any courier and make any deal attractive to RM if they thought they were going to get a near monopoly of packages that suit their business.
HOWEVER !!! If this market were to contract by significant volume , and I reckon Ebay could be looking at a drop of perhaps 80% of this part of their business , then given how much they have upset their user base , basically Ebay will actually deliver less business than promised and RM will lose revenue as a result.
Please note this is just my take , but its really difficult to work out the financial incentive otherwise , and too be honest Ebay are just hiding in the shadows .
I think it is definitely worth including RM in your complaints in this shabby deal especially on the real impact to them . I think any sub postmaster will be fuming as all seller who buy chose to buy at their local Post Office will be impacted in an unfair manner especially if Ebay are getting a financial reward. Given RM24 & 48 were a contentious issue they could easily go back to turning away Ebay purchased drop offs and who can blame them .
Evri probably stand to gain as being the cheaper provider they are more likely to be selected by buyers if they have the choice , especially as Ebay don't seem to identify the potential couriers . This will be get messy very quickly for reasons we all ready appreciate . I would only use Evri for out of size parcels and I have sent anything like that for years , as a buyer I have very few deliveries using Evri and I actually get more from Yodel .
The more effected parties that become involved the more pressure there will be on Ebay to do the RIGHT thing and stop destroying their business
A monumental cynical flaw with this crackpot plan is Ebay have the right to opt out if they can't handle your parcel but you don't have the same right if you don't think Ebay can do a proper job !!! I like to meet any Marketing expert who thinks that is a good approach .

I don’t think it has cared for a long time. Also if you had to impose couriers on people, why on earth would you choose 1 that has such a low rating for reviews on anywhere I look. Most people think Evri are incompetent, in my experience I have had so much anxiety and stress caused by them both as a recipient of parcels and long ago when I used them for sending! I think ti will probably do more to ruin the reputation of eBay even further.

So true. They have lost touch with the many users that have used this platform for many years and who over the years and by trial and error managed to put things in place that worked for them. Only to now be told sorry but you do things our way or not at all.

I'd agree with your post except on this point as SD actually helps with the problem if you really don't know what size / weight something will be once packed because it will likely get it wrong anyway and if you can persuade the drop-off site to take it then it's not your problem, unless the sorting office doesn't notice or understand the Marketplace Seller label and tries to withhold delivery and penalise the buyer.
I'd suggest most sellers should loosely pack their items when listing as it makes it a lot easier when they randomly sell and ebay put you under pressure to drop everything to meet the delivery dates they offer the buyer you are not fumbling around trying to find a box and it protects the items while in storage waiting to sell which could be a long time with the increasing layers of disclosed and hidden fees ebay are applying.

SD has been on here for certainly about a week now and whilst I have not used it and won’t be doing as my listings end tonight, I have read threads who say that parcels have been turned away from post offices when taken there because the weight or size is incorrect, you cannot apparently cancel a label if you get it wrong either, correct me on that if that is not the case.

That's an excellent post.
I agree with many of your points and I'm not sure if you were alluding to it, but another area of potential anti competition including the post office is if they refuse to accept the SD parcels.
At that point eBay's mandate effectively prohibits us from using them.
The Post Office are reactionist, not antagonist in that scenario.

My guess is that RM have not cut ebay any special deals just given them fair access to a Marketplace Seller product that already existed as it was already being used by other places.
My second guess is the features in RM's Marketplace Seller product for dealing with wrong weight/size packages were intended for exceptional cases and not designed for the way ebay are going to completely guess and get such a high proportion wrong but RM probably can't do much about it so are going to have a lot of exceptions on their hands to onward charge to ebay. Maybe that's what the extra quid on RM is partially for because ebay's stupid method of not asking the seller information they already know is going to cause ebay to absorb lots of fines?
This arrangement looks overall bad for RM as it's going to push a lot of volume of postage to Ebay's unreliable friend Evri.

Brilliant post. For what it's worth I just don't agree with having to buy a label from a 3rd party middle man and lose direct contact with my choice of carrier who is RM.

Are Obey actually honest with anyone ? that's food for thought.

more like from today! I have just been at the car boot and have been in discussions with a number of people who are leaving, Post office guy also said that some of his customers have said they are going. Never heard anything with any of the other changes, moans but that was all. I really think they may have made a dent in their sellers this time.

I think it's made a crater more than a dent and it's only getting worse day by day.

The S***T will really hit the fan when this SD is put into practice. I would guess that over 90% pf the sellers don't know what the actual ramifications will be.. I would guess that the majority of Sellers have never looked a these boards????

happening all over at the moment for various reasons. Never seen it happen so much and all because we are annoyed and angry and use the wrong word (or two). Never mind, after today it will not matter, although i may have look see on here to see how things are going.

had a few interesting chats at the car boot this morning, and it seems the general consensus is that people are leaving from today.

Bans are something to wear like badges at the moment, even i managed to get one! Gave me more time to do other things, i spend far too much time on here anyway!

Not sure why a lot of sellers never look at these boards, I have always found them to be very useful and a good sounding board too. I will miss a lot of my buyers (am leaving today myself), really good people a lot of them, I won’t miss the stress of the goalposts moving and like kath3735_wxmjn am on here too much, be nice to have time to declutter my head if it all

You naughty thing! 😂😂😂
06-04-2025 2:24 PM
I think Evri will come unstuck eventually, I bought something the other day for the garden, was told delivery in 2 days by the seller who used Evri. Once I had picked myself up from the floor through laughing so much, I decided that I knew it wasn’t going to happen and I had no expectations of it happening anyway. There will however be a lot of irate buyers who expect this to occur, dream on!

Buyers on eBay should be warned about changes from 15 April:
" due to eBay providing the pre-paid labels to your sellers the fee for postage with Royal Mail will increase with 20%."

Although I've already stopped buying and selling in protest, after 24 years of ebaying, I feel invested enough to stay and see if ebay's private seller business implodes.
