AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Great, that will be my next job

You haven't read everything eBay have said.
They allow exemptions.
One of their best ones is for Fragile items.
It's on the new newsletter.
Paraphrasing, they say,
As long as you follow eBay's packaging guidance you will be covered.
Great ..
How exactly do you prove you did when eBay DO NOT accept photos or video as proof of adequate packaging?
Don't take my word for it, have a read through these threads here. Every single example I have seen has been refused by eBay.

Of course they will refuse, you will have so many hoops to jump through for nothing. Evri don’t let you claim for broken or lost items now, that won’t change!

But surely that will only benefit sellers of higher end items which are what this site wants instead of normal private sellers. I used to pay RM 2.70 for items sent in a padded large letter envelope and I sent them 48hr Tracked and if there were any damages etc I would deal with RM direct as there was a certain level that I could claim for. That's why SD is no use to me whatsoever.

The question is rhetorical as the answer is obvious to anyone that knows their practices.
But that's the point. Not everyone does.
Some people don't like being told things, so it's safer to let them think. Point them in the right direction and let them make their own opinions.

I did the same, majority of my items are small parcels. Some are medium parcels, RM charge around £5.00 for me to send tracked (£5.15 I think) for a parcel under 2kg. If I continued I would be having to charge buyers over £10 for a parcel of the same size and weight because I won’t be able to source that postage myself from RM

All this is just a clever play on words by marketing. Why on earth should I want to buy the label from Obey just so they gain their little extra bit of profit and SD would end up being more expensive plus even if RM was used I would have to deal with Obey and not RM. And for the £2.70 I paid RM for 48hr Tracked that included the label.

"Don't take my word for it, have a read through these threads here. Every single example I have seen has been refused by eBay."
Can you please point me to any of these examples as I have not found any. Please only include examples which have actually happened under Simple Delivery, not posts where people say Ebay will squirm out of their promise, in this relatively new system as I want to read about examples where Ebay did squirm out and, if there are any, where they did not.
I really need your help as I had intended to rely upon the recent message from Ebay which I thought was very clear

@dion5feb2016 wrote:Exactly, buy an item (dress or otherwise) from a shop and it anything is wrong take it back, get a refund, Trades Description Act etc. You don’t pay an extra amount in case it is wrong and you have to return it!
It's a bit more complicated than that as the shop has some options to replace, repair or even partially refund it if enough time has passed and you have clearly had benefit from the opportunity to use it etc depending on the circumstances.

SD is advertised on eBay as cheaper delivery option for sellers:
Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing most items.
It’s designed to reduce the effort that shipping takes and offers 20% off postage costs, on average*.
*Buyer postage cost data from Oct 2024 to March 2025 comparing Simple Delivery and non Simple Delivery postage labels on eBay.
Well to be true: around 20% more expensive and NOT designed to reduce the effort that shipping takes.
You will no longer be able to charge a few extra p's for packaging ( effort to wrap items need still to be done by us) and RM labels were free and now : Print them yourself.
Misleading info. And * should be updated with April RM prices. March 2025 comparison is no longer valid.
Here's the price comparison:
Up to 2KG
Simple Delivery: Buyer Pays = £4.27
Simple Delivery: Seller Pays = £4.46
Direct from Royal Mail = £3.39
Up to 15KG
Simple Delivery: Buyer Pays = £10.55
Simple Delivery: Seller Pays = £12.35
Direct from Royal Mail = £10.55
Up to 20KG
Simple Delivery: Buyer Pays = £10.66
Simple Delivery: Seller Pays = £12.47
Direct from Royal Mail = £10.55

Sorry to write off topic.
has anybody ever used bonanza dot com?

But surely a buyer here should have the right to choose if they want to pay the BPF and not have it shoved down their throat. If a seller posted something to me using RM 48hr Tracked I would not need BPF.
06-04-2025 12:57 PM
Never heard of that one but will definitely have a look.

I haven't seen any refusal of photos/videos on a SD sale yet.
What I'm referring to is consistent practice over a large time frame. Since I came here I've been reading old threads too, trying to get an idea of what I'm dealing with.
Now if they were planning to change that side of things why didn't they tell us?
Maybe they forgot ..
But no doubt there are going to be plenty of volunteers and we'll get to see what happens.
They left their disclaimers/exemptions for a reason. Their choice of wording should always be studied to.

Some of their claimed 20% will be the result of forcing packaging costs out of the postage into the seller's existing item price (where sellers did this, personally I have always had it in my item costs and charged postage at RM rates) and the rest is probably from shifting workload from RM to Evri assuming no sellers change their postage preferences to RM-Only because they cannot or will not use Evri.
But in practice for those of us who would continue using RM it's a circa 20% penalty which is what is forcing us to stop selling here and look elsewhere.

Email sent out on 2 April states that it will apply to your EXISTING listings from 7 April! Shocking!

I agree. They do tend to have a clever play on wording and they give the impression that they view users who do think are a threat.
06-04-2025 1:05 PM
Don’t know what that is, will check it out
06-04-2025 1:06 PM
Me too. No harm in looking at all potential options.

As someone also with 19 years using the platform I agree that ebay need to start listening to this feedback or risk loosing private sellers. It is not too late to admit the mistake and restore things to how they were. There are so many flaws in this so-called 'simple delivery'. For private sellers selling own second hand items, you do not quite know what the dimensions, and weight are in advance when listing (ebay recommends an option which can turn out very wrong ) until you go to pack it and find right box etc.. Then ebay has limited the options (Royal Mail and Evri), what about UPS, DPD, Parcelforce etc who a seller may choose for a variety of reasons at point of sale depending on the item, the buyer and the proximity of a convenient drop off point. Even Royal Mail's own Special Delivery seems to have dropped off list) This also seems very much against the spirit of free competition to force someone to only use certain couriers that the platform agrees with. If you choose Royal Mail only, there is currently a massive gulf between 2kg and the next option (up to 15kg) which makes it all uneconomical too sell anything which is not very light. And finally, there is absolutely no consideration for the less technically-up-to-date persons who do not have a smart phone or printer and actually like to use old fashioned pen and ink! Basically ebay is saying it does not care for them anymore!
