AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Postage and Delivery really requires a lot of thought . It took me 20years to get it down to a tee , Normally my auctions end by 16:30 on a Sunday and assuming all payments are received by 10 the next morning there are collected by the postman around 10:30 on the Monday . Since I have been doing I have had no items lost , I always combine postage when possible . Thanks to "Simple Delivery" all that is out the window .
Its frustrating when you probably think that those who dreamed this up may never have sold anything on Ebay. I even help my neighbours when they sell , especially printing labels . I see some of the issues being called out an I can appreciate all of them . We all have our different ways that work for us . Someone telling us that what they are doing is better or more simplified etc simply does not understand how Ebay works.
Thanks Ebay

Years ago, when eBay was in its infancy and before I had ever heard of eBay, I was watching a TV program (I cannot remember what it was wether it was 'Nationwide' or a current affairs program or a local news article) but I remember clearly them saying "Its often said on eBay you can sell any old rope", so that was what this program did.
They advertised a small length of good quality rope (between 1ft - 3ft) for £1. It sold for that amount and they got the buyers permission to film him. They didn't post it, they gave it to him in person. The buyer was a fisherman and only needed a small length for a repair and was very happy with his purchase.
I would love to see that same program do an updated version and show all the differences in the transaction.

I had my postage down to a tee too. Auctions ended by 9pm Sunday night and if payment made no later than around 11.40pm I'd be straight on the RM site and book a collection for the next day including bring my label and all for £2.70 for items in large padded letter sent 48hr Tracked. Worked great until these changes.

I'll definitely have a look. Thanks for the info.

I can't say what I want to in fear of a ban but to honestly have the nerve to say basically all good news for sellers and good communication. I'm sorry but when and where did that happen.

Yeah I don't think ebay understand how seriously us experienced private sellers take the matter of getting postage right every time.
To be forced to use a system that's basically broken when we all know how it should be done properly for our individual circumstances is frankly insulting.
And then to make it impractical (golf clubs, postcards, etc) and totally inconvenient (long distance journeys to post) is beyond unreasonable.
Then to charge buyers a quid more than it would cost to buy postage elsewhere is the icing on the cake. We care about buyers more than ebay!

Like everyone she will judged on her results and Ebay simply isn't about standard retail, its not ASOS and its not Vinted , its not Facebook , its primarily a market leading online Auction site which needs willing and enthusiastic bidders to thrive.
I have never seen Ebay so stagnant and I don't think it's just me . All I have bought recently are bits an pieces from genuine business sellers for DIY jobs . I am reluctant to bid on job lot bargains as selling off what I don't want isn't an option and that's not just because of Simple Delivery . I am not even chucking asking price bids on the basis if I win I get an absolute bargain .
If people stop selling then people stop buying and that process repeats . Earning extra money is nice as it getting a few £'s for unwanted clutter but I do need to do it to make or living !

Rather than have to buy a printer or smartphone and hope/pray the post office/evri store will accept or print the labels I would happily pay a fee to be able to write the address on the parcels with a pen and choose my courier ie the royal mail.I would pay 500 quid a year to carry on as normal.I just know that at some point the labels or qr codes won't be accepted and I will be wasting time going home reprinting labels or visiting other post offices. This never happens when writing the address on with a pen.

Well, that's me done. After 24 years on ebay I've delisted all my sale items. Simple Delivery is simply too much of a hassle to deal with. If they sort out the weighting bands (ie, more steps between the 'up to 2kg' and the 'up to 15kg') for postage then I may return.

Just reading in the sun newspaper that post offices are refusing parcels with generated eBay labels due to weight and pricing issues - going really well for you eBay 😂

Todays update is the same useless drivel and does not address any questions.
The exemption of SD for under 100g and under £10 if it goes in an envelope does not mention what size of envelope. An A4 envelope is still an envelope but there is no mention on wether this is included. Some people count a small jiffy bag (USA?) as being an envelope.

I know it's rhetorical but no one should have to pay a fee to write an address on a package. Even driving people to the point of desiring that shows how bad this lot are. It's disgusting.

Like you I am open to selling again if ebay are willing to listen to us and change direction which is why I have only suspended sales for a month for now. I've definitely got some stuff that is more suited to being sold elsewhere so will move some listings away from ebay this weekend. It might be I only use ebay as a last resort for things that don't fit better with other online marketplaces. It's not going to be my one size fits all 'goto' anymore for buying or selling while they treat us like this. I'm still on buying and selling strike for now and it's so relaxing!
ps if they think they can fob me off with the bribe of 7 day automated positive feedback that does not address my concerns in the slightest and if anything I wouldn't want that feature as I want to see what my buyers really think and for my feedback to be genuine.

Sadly the decline of ebay is already happening but the 15th will be the death of ebay. Don't go to Etsy as they are just as bad. Both sites are like the Mary Celeste, buyers have just disappeared. I put an items on auction which normally sell quite well but in 4 days I have had only 1 view. Many buyers have shifted over to Temu because they are cheap. I also will have to stop buying on ebay.

Yes, today's update is mostly the same information as before but it does confirm that they are working on a printerless collection option and also that fragile items can be sent with Simple Delivery and will be covered in the event of damage, so a couple of positives maybe.

The main thing I learnt from today's update is they are still not willing to accept they have made a fundamental mistake as they didn't have any idea what it's really like to be a private seller.

Today's update states that it needs to be letter-sized, so anything 24cm x 16,5cm x 0.5cm or under.
An A4 envelope would be a Large Letter, so wouldn't be exempt from Simple Delivery.

First was the listing process. Then the free to list for private sellers. Next came the compulsory Buyer protection fee - why do we need that when eBay offer a 30 day money back guarantee? Now the postage only available. After 21 years selling on ebay, I will be stopping. My sales are zero since the BPF was introduced in February as most of my items are 99p, which now starts the bid at £1.75! Very sad that this has happened. I wonder if they have employed someone to come along and replicate their platform???

eBay gives no mention as to size of envelope and an A4 envelope is still an envelope. It may be large letter size but it is still an envelope if made of paper.
