Marking an item as dispatched

Have successfully used eBay for many many years, and have always posted via Royal Mail and done my own labelling. Sent an item the same way a few days ago and cannot find any way of marking the item as “dispatched”, so ebay keeps saying the item is overdue to be sent.  I have sent it, and have proof of posting. But now ebay is withholding funds for 14 days. On top of that, the funds due to me are minus the postage cost of the item. What the hell is going on. I refuse to use EVRI who have an appalling reputation where I live. I’m just about to delete all my listing now as I just hate what they’re doing to EBay. Such a shame.

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

On a laptop, go in to seller hub - orders - awaiting dispatch. Click on 3 dots for dropdown menu  - mark as dispatched.

Ebay app - click on order - click on red banner above it - mark as dispatched.

This has been changed now, does anyone know how to currently do this?

On your Orders Page beside the item there should be Tracking number space, you can enter the Proof of Postage reference number there (this will then show item dispatched).

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

The original question here was posted in April when most Private sellers could mark items as dispatched manually, selecting their own postal services and charges.

Big changes have happened as Simple Delivery is now mandatory for Private sellers.

Postage is now purchased via eBay, and the item is automatically marked as dispatched, eBay require you to post the item within 3 days.

As long as there are no holds on payouts then if tracking shows delivery, payouts will be released 2 days after that delivery date.

For orders sent with Simple Delivery and dispatched within 3 calendar days, funds will be available 8 calendar days from the order date,  or 2 calendar days after eBay receive delivery confirmation, whichever comes first.

This link explains the workings of Simple Delivery:

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

This is awful, so you're telling me we HAVE to use ebay's pre-paid codes? I have the exact issue as the OP, I refuse to use Evri and have just posted an item via RM use the address supplied to me in the ebay app. If I'm reading this correctly, it's now impossible for me to receive my funds

I'm done with Ebay

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

If this is the case, I'll also lose money as i'm unable mark my items as dispatched or add tracking.

I won't be selling on eBay again and will cancel all current sales.

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

I am in the same situation but, there is a note saying that my funds will be available 31st July even though I cannot mark the items as dispatched or upload the tracking number.

'it's now impossible for me to receive my funds'

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You will get your money eventually.

Un-tracked ( and therefore un-simple delivery) takes 2 weeks for the money to clear.... you'll get it in the end!

Sorry,  I have just seen you did get back to my post  above.

You can exclude Evri as a postage option and just use Royal Mail,  exclude them in your site preferences >>  Postage refs here:

It's not impossible to receive funds,  with no tracking your funds will be available after 14 days.  Payments are being changed in a few weeks,  too.  From the 6th August payouts will be released 24 hours after the buyer receives their item.

Worth reading eBay Announcements as seemingly there are constant tweaks and changes to Simple Delivery.

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

Sorry for late reply,  I have just seen these posts.

If you have used your own postage and not used Simple Delivery,  you can change your tracking manually this way:

You may need to use a laptop / PC ,  not the app or mobile browser, and use Chrome that seems to work best.

  • Go to "Orders Paid & Dispatched"
  • Click on "View order details"
  • Within the "Postage" section there's a small dropdown arrow next to "Track Package" - click on that.
  • Click on the "Add tracking" option
  • A box will come up with the current tracking number . Delete that and replace it with your tracking.

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

I find unless you have used / clicked to accept the postage label from ebay, then there is no option to amend the tracking number... So I find I have to accept the pre-paid label, use my own tracking, then request a refund on the label.

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

I had on ebuyer place 2 orders, both with simple delivery.
I sent them both in the same parcel, so only used one delivery label.
I can't now mark the second item as despatched. What do I do?

'I can't now mark the second item as despatched. What do I do?'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may have to wait 14 days to get your money for the 2nd item 🙁

I don't think you can use the same tracking number for 2 *separate* sales.

A buyer buying 2 items and putting them in the same 'checkout basket' *does* combine the shipping, (but so-far, even that's a bit hit and miss price wise...) but far from everybody seems to know about the basket trick yet.

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

I had a expected simpleton delivery parcel arrive , medium size, the postman said hang on you have another one and proceeded to struggle with an 16kg, well oversized, parcel that I wasn't expecting. It transpired that the seller had managed to put my parcel and this gigantic one on the same label to me! I compared the labels and they were identical. So - same tracking number for 2 different sales that ended up with one ( incorrect in one case) buyer. Simpleton delivery label cost was £6 something!

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

I don't see any simple or useful way to use my label for sold items.

You can either opt-out of Simple Delivery at the time of listing a product, or if you have already sold something with Simple Delivery enabled, then the only way to post the item with your own label is to print the Simple Delivery label and then enter the tracking number of your own label.

Furthermore, you won't be able to ask for a refund for the unused Simple Delivery label as per eBay Simple Delivery T&C.

The good thing is that so far I've been using Simple Delivery with Royal Mail and had no issues whatsoever.
Unfortunately, sometimes I need to use my own label due to buyers specific requests and have to go through the whole process and lose money for the Simple Delivery Label. I started using the cheapest Royal Mail label to minimize the losses.

Overall, not a great seller experience with this Simple Delivery.

PS: even for attaching the screenshot here I had to convert it to .jpg because .png is not supported. What the hell eBay? Many things must be updated as soon as possible.

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

I am in the same boat - I am absolutely done with eBay. The selling of something which in the past was so simple has been so stressful. I have to send my item via another courier - not Evri or Royal Mail etc as parcel too big. There was not an option to opt out of simple(ton) postage. Now I have sold the item, I cannot see how to mark it despatached and hence I won't get my funds until 14 days have passed. This is ridiculous. Is there any way of marking it despatched? I am using DPD - and even then it looks like I will be out of pocket as I selected 'buyer pays' for postage - and if I don't use the pre-paid label, then the buyer is refunded the cost of the postage. Can anyone help with the despatch issue? TIA

Re: Marking an item as dispatched

To get it marked as dispatched you have to generate the original SD label.

Thanks - can I then void it and get it refunded?

  • If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days

  • If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.
