Item damaged by Simple Delivery - how do I claim from ebay?

I sold an item.  I was forced to use Simple Delivery and buyer received the item damaged.  I've approved the return but how do I recover the costs from Ebay?

As long as the buyer used "Damaged" as the reason ebay will issue the refund themselves and you keep the payment.

If the buyer selected the correct reason for opening a return, i.e. "Item arrived damaged", you should not have had anything to approve. EBay will refund the buyer without involving the seller at all.

If the buyer opened a "Not as described" case, then you are liable for the cost of return, and the refund to the buyer.

If they did, your only (slim) hope is to speak to an eBay agent using the normal channels, and tell them that the item was actually damaged in transit, and the buyer opened a "not as described" return by mistake.
