ITEMS SOLD

What’s the most surprising item you've ever sold on eBay?

False teeth had fillings??  I wouldn't have thought they'd have had cavities!

Re: ITEMS SOLD

Perhaps they were made from real teeth? 🤢

If so, they must've been quite an old set of gnashers...

Re: ITEMS SOLD

I wanted a tiny amount of beach sand to make a 3D sea-themed greeting card (I did get the little sea shells I wanted). I explored my local sandy beaches but found nothing realistic, ha ha. I had to buy a little jar of craft sand. It said "real sand" - it didn't look like it, but it looked realistic on the card. Not the same stuff sold for model railway scenery.

I'd advise against selling real snow too, quite apart from the practicalities. The most realistic snow is the faux snow sold by craft shops 🙂  I'm told it makes a gift/card very touchable. It's also eternal. I bought 30g. Each year I add it to loads of Christmas cards and spill loads everywhere, yet the amount in my storage pot doesn't diminish 🙂

Snow effects used in films and TV are often shredded white plastic bags

Re: ITEMS SOLD

I put a loudspeaker up for sale on ebay for £100.

It didnt sell so  I slowly reduced price by £10 a month until it got to £20.

It still wouldnt sell.

So I decided I might keep it and put up price to £150 to stop it selling.

A couple of days later it sold for £150 !

Re: ITEMS SOLD

Oh don't remind me 😞 "Go and pick up all the plastic bag bits..." I had to do that kind of thing when I was the oddjobber/prompt in a student theatre group.

Hubby made props for said group and things had to be made for PENNIES (including a full-sized K-9). We had to come up with the cheapest props, costume, make-up etc. So hubby, playing King Oedipus in the tragedy 'Oedipus Rex', when he tore out his own eyes, had marshmallows with jam smeared on them - actually looked really convincing. But then he accidentally stepped on them, the audience laughed hysterically, and the tragic atmosphere was never quite the same after that.

Re: ITEMS SOLD

You know what you may be onto something there.    I list items quite cheaply sometimes on auction format and they do not sell........even though the same item has recently sold by others for double my asking price.

Am i listing way too cheap and this is putting doubt into potential bidders minds?

Re: ITEMS SOLD

I sold a 3 piece suite, way before eBay, took years, finally I thought I would try putting price up and it went straight away! Then sometime later saw it in an antique shop for loads more. It seems some things can go up with each sale.

I think with some items, it's not a bad idea to test if there is any interest, by listing with a higher, buy it now or best offer price.  Then you can see if the item attracts any interest at all, over a few weeks, rather than have the regret that it sold too cheaply at auction - maybe because not enough people spotted the item in time, or forgot to bid, etc etc.
