Funds on hold

Hi Everyone, I’m after some advice please. I recently sold a job lot of coins for over £1500, item was packed and sent same day for delivery next day before 1pm Royal Mail Special signed etc.. the next day I get a notification parcel delivered to address and signed for by recipient. Now I’m awaiting buyer to confirm nothing wrong.. the next day I wake up to buyer opening case for not delivered… I told him to check Royal Mail tracking and says he signed for at his address. We argue back and forth for a while then he sends me on what’s app his ring door bell footage for 11:21 exactly time says delivered by Royal Mail and I can see the post lady walking up the path with my parcel I sent she rings the door bell and after waiting 20 seconds or so she scans the parcel signs for it and walks off around the corner out of camera view. This case has been open over 21 days, I have been told by several eBay customer services case has been closed in my favour. now i keep getting told please wait another 48-72 hours for their review team to decide outcome. You can’t speak to anyone in review team apparently they work offline and agents and leaders fob you off with same same bo**ocks

Re: Funds on hold

A couple of things, I do hope you took the correct insurance on this special delivery item eg not the standard £750 but paid extra due to the value of the order.

It does seem odd that you have been told the case has been closed in your favour (as it should) it may be that ebay are holding the funds for the upto 30 day rule as you would probably be considered an infrequent seller by them, so if you goto the case in question does it show as closed or still open? If closed and in your favour then this is probably what is happening.

If the case is still showing as open and under review, then this will be why you haven't had funds released yet. (and I don't know why it hasn't been closed, we have no access to your aaccount. How you have exchanged details to whats app each other I dont' know but this shouldn't have happened, and showing a ring footage cannot be authenticated by you or anyone else. The footage must show the post person doing something with the parcel eg leaving on doorstep, putting through letter box etc?

Re: Funds on hold

Hi, it’s says case open and pending.. I have spoken to eBay customer services and they advised case will be closed in sellers favour as all tracking is present and correct.

when buyer reported item not received I looked at the sale and his mobile number was on there so I rang him and insisted he check because Royal Mail confirm delivery with signature at your his address. Then he sent me the ring door bell footage which after seeing is 💯 authentic my parcel post office label where I posted and the correct time on footage as per delivery.

the funds being on hold this amount of time is starting to cause concern

Re: Funds on hold

What is the buyer saying happened after the post person signed for the parcel?

Alternatively what does the doorbell footage show the post person did with the parcel?

They are allowed to sign by the way.

Re: Funds on hold

My understanding is that Special Delivery must be signed for by the recipient or someone at the address - it differs from the standard 'signed for' service.  This is because 'Signed For' is £20 compensation, whereas SD is up to £2500.

I always warn my SD buyers that someone will have to sign, otherwise the package will be returned to the DO.  I have had failed SD deliveries because there was nobody available to sign for the package.

Re: Funds on hold

The buyer says Royal Mail failed to leave the parcel and ring door bell shows the post lady walking up path with my parcel rings door door bell there’s no one home she waits 20 second ish then scans the parcel signs recipients name and then leaves and walks around the corner with the parcel. She did not leave it at front

Effectively it looks like its been stolen then.

You and your buyer should contact Royal Mail.

Re: Funds on hold

Tell the buyer to go to the nearest sorting office and speak to the manager. They can then show the ring doorbell video and RM can investigate. If he is worried about losing £1500, he should be willing.

Does he not know who his local postie is?

All smells very fishy and the words coins and not received in the same sentence is a big red flashing sign. Maybe he is an expert in deep fake AI.

Re: Funds on hold

I think he is full of it also. I’ve put a claim in with Royal Mail just in case eBay does not side with myself and I lose out on £1786.88 which is being held.

Re: Funds on hold

Might be because we live in a bit more rurally, we know all the local posties and the depot is just a few miles away - but if I mentioned to one of my posties that a special I was expecting hadn't arrived, I'd be either getting a visit from the manager or a lift to the depot.

I've had two issues with specials going missing in twenty odd years of sending and receiving loads - both times everything was sorted in hours, and both time I only knew about it  after they had sorted it, they missed the items before I realised they were missing.

I've also managed to speak to RM customer services re a delayed SD package - they knew exactly where it was, and that the delay was due to the plane being grounded in a snowstorm in Inverness so unable to land in Edinburgh to collect the mail - and the CS lady organised the refund of my postage during the call, sending a cheque which arrived 2 days later!

Not easy to get direct phone numbers to depots these days, but if you can get to your local depot they will be able to speak to the receiving depot.  And they can help you to make a claim, if necessary.
