Hi! I’m new to eBay , have only sold one item (it was posted the same day as the buyer paid, received the next day and the buyer gave me excellent feedback, yet eBay kept the money for two weeks before releasing it) and have just sold another, a month later, only to be told I have to wait two weeks before I get the money again.
It is beyond frustrating to know the buyer has their item , in the shortest possible time and is completely happy with it, and I have to wait until eBay deems it okay before I get my money. I know this is because they want you to spend your money on eBay, as the funds are IMMEDIATELY available to purchase things through eBay, but pretending it has anything to do with customer satisfaction when the customer is completely satisfied and actually over the moon, and yet still you have to wait another 13 days of them being over the moon before the money is paid is some ridiculous level of bulls**t. I’d maybe understand if it was an electrical item lot something, but when it is something that you are instantly able to tell the quality of, authenticity of, and accuracy of selling condition of (I sell Pokemon cards) then it is simply because you want the seller to spend their money on your site and only that reason. All protestations to the contrary hold no water.
The only other reason, which they don’t state but MUST play a part is the interest on the funds they earn while it’s sitting in their bank. These enormous corporations are able to request their interest paid daily, if I’m not mistaken, and call me paranoid or a conspiracy theorist, but it would make sense to me that if they have these supposed mechanisms in place with which to withhold funds from the seller, and they are, let’s say, facing a bit of a financial blip over the next week or two, maybe they use these mechanisms to hoard funds that should be released, which have no good reason to be withheld other than they have these mechanisms set in place and can use them as they see fit - or, more likely, when they decide to earn a few tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars in bank interest over the next fortnight by arbitrarily delaying payments for a certain number and certain subset of customers, maybe for various, ill fitting reasons that strike those customers as utter bulls**t.
I could be utterly wrong and the only reason they withhold funds as cash but make the funds immediately available to use on their website is to force people to use their website who wouldn’t otherwise do so, who knows? Either way, it is infuriating that this is the way they conduct business. I’m going to have a look at alternatives today as I’m sick of it.
