Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

I'm a private seller. Items I sell are between £2.90 - £10. Is It just me or will ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb make it near impossible to sell competitively. A few months ago Ebay got rid of Sellers' fees for private sellers, which was a welcome move. But this new change and getting rid of multi-buy discount for private sellers will make it worse than it was with the original fees.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

I don't think there are any really.
FB Marketplace maybe?
I gave up with that, it's hopeless.
The cost of postage is a killer anyway, but 4%+75p has just buried the body.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

I sent all of my low value items to the charity shop yesterday.
Puzzles, games, cds, dvds etc.
I took down over 200 listings.
8 supermarket delivery trays full, and a yuge pile of games and puzzles.
I hate Ebay.

Good for you.

That's what all private sellers should be doing.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

Why should all private sellers be sending their items to charity shops or landfill?

Maybe many still want to see if it’s still viable to sell their unwanted items?

Maybe many don’t even know this is happening (or don’t care)?

The number of private sellers (or even business sellers) who read these Boards, or even know they exist, is very small in comparison to those who want to sell.

Now, if people were to be objective in their comments, rather than being constantly subjective, perhaps they will suggest all of these other sites they seem to think will suit private sellers?

Perhaps based on experience rather than hearsay?

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

Having been both selling and buying on eBay over 20 years, I would prefer a Seller Fee to a Buyer Fee. It seems to me that a Buyer Fee will raise prices overall and deter potential buyers.
The organisers of car boot sales do not hover around and demand an extra percentage of every transaction from the buyers.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

Well from what i have read so far about Simple Delivery the buyer can still choose it and Ebay say how much they pay.   I guess they will also be telling us to post it immediately.

As far as I understand the buyer can choose between standard or express delivery...

3 days handling time  is stipulated in the terms and conditions...

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

I won't use it.
My listings clearly state my delivery schedule.
Tracked 48 posted next working day.
I take the parcels to the post office, which is a 5 minute walk away, and pay for the postage over the counter.
I don't have to wait around for some random collection time, and I've got a till receipt which I snapshot and send to the buyer, along with a photo of the parcel.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

Hi in the sale details you will see contact buyer on the right and can copy
and paste a long number which is there into the RM email details. They want
either this or phone number. Rather than ask everyone their email address
I do it this way

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

Mine is collected and yes if i can't use RM that's it for me. Ebay postage
only has RM collection for large letter now not even parcel and no letter
collection so i am still buying postage direct from RM

Similar 4 letter name use your own postage, no buyer fee, low seller fee.
E...d.
Ebay SD can be opted out of but for how long we don't know. It will come up
on every new listing from 10th and you have to opt out each time and go for
custom postage

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

The buyer fee only applies to private sellers

Not business sellers who make, buy or grow items to sell on

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

However, I collect Waveguide - rectangular metal pipes used in radars.  I would be prepared to place quite a reasonable bet that there isn't a single tax man/woman in the UK who has ever heard of waveguide, let alone could imagine that anyone might collect such things.

I've had most of my collection for more than 30 years and got them mostly as gifts from friends in the business or by dumpster diving so there are no receipts.  I've got quite a few duplicates and a nice piece can easily fetch 50 quid.  If I start selling these off and the tax man/woman comes sniffing round I can see them not believing me!

Whatever your " collection" is - they are your personal items and would not be considered trading, particularly as you have owned most of them for many years. Only if an item hit £6000 plus then CGT could be applied but there are some things which are exempt anyhow.  Is it the acoustic waveguides that fetch more? I know nothing about it but recall my uncle ( engineer) years back speaking of them and sound? Not much more I remember about them.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

Best way for everyone Buyer and seller is :

Each label ordered and printed on bottom right  side is with logo Ebey !

Each of this labels are with number (tracking information)  . Just someone form Ebey need to organise this and each 2 nd class 1 st class parcel... when is ordered from ebey to be scanned when is delivered on address. Easy ! The number now is available for each label . Easy scan and can be available in the system DELIVERED ! . Like that the delivery price will be low and inflation will be available . BUT ... Ebey  in this case make £ now for RM !  Because everyone will buy label with tracking  not standard .. example small letter is 2.55  vs 0.85 !  So the final product is more expensive for the buyer or seller will lose money!   Yes available is option for 14 days .. And eBay make % £ when the money are pending! .

Easy  post man when see EBEY on the label  Scan  this label and in the system is Delivered  . Label signature tracking 2nd class all they are same and can be scanned...  But RM play with Ebey for extra £ ..  Need to be good place for buyers and sellers  like that bot both is not good .  And the products will go up like price to be covered delivery price. The cheap small products in this case don't have space in ebey or need 14 days (absolutely stupid!!  claim for lost envelope example is 10 working days)  .  Everything is made for £ ! !!! not to be good for sellers and buyers.
