Ebay refuse to remove negative feedback so I'm quitting after 20 years as a seller.

I've been using Ebay coming up on 20 years/ 2 decades  and I received my 1st negative feedback.

Buyer of an item claimed the item was damaged which it wasn't, they even sent me pics of the item showing no damage.

Buyer claimed I wasted time when I actually refunded full amount and paid postage same day ! Buyer claimed  waste of money which was untrue as I made a full refund !

Ebay refuse to remove the feedback, I reported Buyer I and used request negative feedback form, I tried to appeal Ebay said I cant appeal.

20 years 100% feedback and I've sold around 1200 items..

I'm planning on closing my account now as a matter of principle, Customer services have sickened me.

Dreadful experience.

I have  a heart condition and this has stressed me right out... I've had several call backs  ffom customer service discussing this, no joy, had enough now.

Feedback doesn't really matter any more (unless your getting negatives daily obviously).  Hence no other platform uses a feedback model at the forefront of the listings, in favour of item reviews - which actually matter.  Feedback score bares two sides though, algorithm and customer.

In the early days of eBay, feedback was important as it allowed you to see if you were actually going to get your item or not.  Now with the money back guarentee, and e-commerce in general being a lot more trustworthy, feedback has taken a back seat.  If the item doesn't arrive, one can claim thier money back worry free.

As someone mentioned above, there is only one loser if you are to close your account over this.

He is on 90% and I am on 100% positive feedback.

He sells more than I do !!!

Feed back scores are more or less meaningless these days.  You are guranteed negative feedback by people who feel entitled to score one over on you in order to make up for their pathetic low status in life.  With eBay they know there will be no come back.  I now post replies sticking two fingers up at the negatives.  Any buyer checking up on me gets to see that the negative was actually unfounded and gets the real picture.  Also, the calculation is wrong.  I counted up the actual number of true single negatives and found it to be a lot less than the calculation implied, it seems ALL negatives are carried over to the calculation not just the last 12 months.  I noticed how my score just seemed to keep dropping and many other listers also seemed to be getting worse and worse across the board.  I used to pay attention to less than 99.9% as a buyer but now I know there is something wrong with the calculation and the fact eBay has given free reign to abuse the system I tend to read the seller negs first and it often turns out 1 particualr item resulted in a run of negs or the usual bunch of fraudsters, online shoplifters, are at work.

We fully sympathise and I think many on here are missing the point. Ebays Feedback system is the most self defeating system on the Internet.

Narcisissist and Trolls are free to taint your business and get free stuff to boot courtesy of Ebay themselves. Any potential new/inexperienced buyers see page after page of poor feedback/business practice comments and simply buy off Amazon/FB marketplace/anywhere else instead; where the lack of feedback gives the appearance of good solid business practice.

No amount of courtesy/grovelling/ ingratiating yourself to a narcissist is going to stop them ultimately trolling you with feedback to feed their fragile egos or need to take complete control of your feelings/mindset. So basic 'try harder' comments aren't helpful when you're already doing the max'.

Ebay will always be a small multinational as long as it ignores its food source- Sellers not buyers. (Unless they continue to buy up competitors unchallenged of course).

Yeah. They don't seem to want to remove lying feedback. They can see the receipts for the postage labels I bought through them. They can see my message histories with the vexacious buyer. So that is two clear ways to easily and quickly prove the feedback is just lies.  It seems lying is not a breach of their policy, whatever the hell that is.

I have decided to just give the rest of the stuff to the local charity shop, as it's just not worth the bother.

Re: Ebay refuse to remove negative feedback so I'm quitting after 20 years as a seller.

If you were going to continue to continue to sell on here,  it's generally a good idea not to send two items in the same package unless it saves on postage, and you have either invoiced the buyer for the new postage, or refunded the extra.

Your response to the feedback indicates you sent in one box and it cost you more than you charged the  buyer.  While you might think (as I do), that that is a good idea, it backfired because your buyer appears to have misunderstood the position.

And yes, ebay is supposed to remove feedback that you can demonstrate is untrue,  but they have got more and more flakey with feedback removal lately.

Re: Ebay refuse to remove negative feedback so I'm quitting after 20 years as a seller.

Yes, I've learnt that lesson now. I thought I was doing them a favour, so they got their items on time, and I managed to find a postage label that was more or less in the range of what they'd paid, if combined.
I should probably raise the issue with ebay of why the postage costs were quoted to me and the buyer, then when I went to buy the labels, I could only find much higher priced labels. At £7.48 per item, it would have cost almost 15 pounds to post separately, so I didn't want to do that either!

I sell stuff once or twice every 10 years or so, just really when I need to clear some space. I did a burst of selling for about three weeks, and have decided to stop for a while and just put what's left back in the loft and take some stuff to the charity shop. It does take up a fair bit of time, and I have got my actual full time job to be getting on with.

Re: Ebay refuse to remove negative feedback so I'm quitting after 20 years as a seller.

I'm expectng another neg very soon, buyer claims was in when Yodel attempted delivery.  I am being blamed for failed delivery attempt and for not rearranging a redelivery despite not knowing where there is a safe place, which neighbour can be trusted or what time they are in.  House name not number, small village, bet the driver couldn't find it - that's what you get for being clever not having a house number!

The complaining emails indicate a mile off what is coming.  But I, like a couple of people here, will be taking full advantage of the reply and telling the world what shysters these negative feedback people are.  eBay will not allow us to mark these buyers as bad people to filter out from buying , so we'll resort to filling up the replies with true honest opinions and verdicts of their behaviour.  As more and more users see these replies the question as to why shysters are allowed to post such negatives and why eBay don't remove them will asked by buyers and it will be the opinion of eBay that comes off worse and confidence in the plaform erroded even more.

Re: Ebay refuse to remove negative feedback so I'm quitting after 20 years as a seller.

If you do that, your reply will probably be removed, as soon as your buyer brings it to eBay's attention.

eBay are actually pretty good at removing negatives and feedback comments arising from late delivery, when all the info to show that it was despatched promptly has been entered into the transaction. So, if you haven't already done so, add the tracking details now. They should show a failed attempt at delivery and that may help you.

In many of the instances when eBay won't agree to remove negative feedback, they often point out that you chose the courier who failed to complete the delivery, so in that respect, it is down to you. It's unfortunate, but any seller still sending items by Yodel or Evri should reconsider. Yes, they may be a few pennies cheaper, and that does add up over time, but their poor reputations are well-known, and instances like this should come as no surprise to you.

Re: Ebay refuse to remove negative feedback so I'm quitting after 20 years as a seller.

I switched to buying postage through eBay due to vastley reduced volume and it does help with eBay receiving direct tracking numbers and delivery updates.  As it happens the negative feedback didn't transpire, probably becaue as you say everything was on record.

If eBay consider my replies to feedback worthy of removal, I'll join the herd and dump eBay altogether.  That would be an absolute insult.  They are factual replies.

As for savng pennies on postage, I have way more trouble with Royal Mail deliveries of parcels than Yodel or Evri.  The delvery updates showing the courier on route and even which stop is far better than Royal Mail.

Re: Ebay refuse to remove negative feedback so I'm quitting after 20 years as a seller.

I didn't, they claimed 'not delivered' so we had to send replacement; then they negged us anyway. So 2x stock down and a neg!

BTW everyone reading this thread  it was a £2.99 item; no-one is going to pay £3.20 for tracked shipping on that value! So please stop telling me I should've used tracked shipping; I'm not new to Ebay!
