Ebay buyer fees for what exactly?

OK so buyer protection.

I do everything right, upload tracking and the inept postal service loses an item, I refund the buyer (rightly so) and I have to claim off the postal service (which is a ballache at the best of times)

So what is the buyer actually paying for? It doesn't cost ebay anything the seller takes the hit and has to sort the claim if successful, which is no good for destashing some of the receipts were lost a long time ago to claim back.

Seems to me ebay is just taking the money for nothing 😕

Absolutely buyer fee it is marketed like an insurance policy for buyers, but ebay do not pay anything themselves if lost or stolen, as you say, the seller does.

It is a card processing fee in all but name.

It is essentially just an eBay service fee to replace the old seller fees. 

However, with eBay's new Simple Delivery, which is intended to become mandatory at some point, eBay will be responsible for items lost or damaged in transit instead of the seller so the Buyer Protection Fee is intended to cover that.

Which ever way you look at it the Buyer Protection Fee has been very badly advertised/marketed.
