Ebay Refusing to pay your money

How many people here have had their money " withheld" with the Ebay scam !!

They accepted my buyers payment, took their commision plus advertising fee and then decided to put a restriction on my account.

Now they are asking for proof of delivery for all my past sales when I use Royal Mail untracked before they will lift the restrictions. Thats something they know I can't supply.

"Ebay you are distroying any respect you had" enjoy your money!

We need to get together to bring them to justice and make them accountable for their actions

please put your case below so we can bring this to their attention because im sick of speaking to the junior clerk thats told what to say

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

The helpful pages give a helpful answer for infrequent sellers , those  who are not selling ' for a while!'

Anybody's guess what a while is,  but if I remember will ask for you,  in the Weekly Chat tomorrow.

As you said,  I also think it's wise to leave one or two items on,  every few weeks or so,  every   ' once in a while ' !

Why do they want your national insurance number? Is there any requirement under data protection to obtain this?

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

It is part of the information Ebay are obliged to disclose to HMRC if your sales this year exceed 30 items or about £1700.

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

Hi @1956glyn

Just asked this question for you on the Weekly Chat, as suspected there's no definitive answer but this was the reply, to when is a seller classed as ' Infrequent' ,  so as not to come back to payment holds.

Unfortunately there isn't a definitive answer I can give you. There are a number of different factors that are taken into consideration. For example how long they were trading or the status of the account before the break. Its something that's built into the site so it can be different for different users.

I think,  your solution then is best,  just leave one or two items listed.

So is it best to sell a few pebbles for a £million? No one will buy but you look active. When you want to actually sell things then just take down the pebbles.

There's probably going to be a significant number of people who will either be reluctant to, or will flat out refuse to, provide eBay with their NI number.

Obviously eBay can't be trusted to pay sellers without random payment holds, so why should they be trusted with information such as an NI number? At least with a bank account, you can change your bank account if anything goes awry, but you can't change your National Insurance number!

I also highly doubt other online marketplaces (which I shall not name) will ask for National Insurance details...

@koalabear14

Have a read of this.  It's just a page and details all the information Ebay will be passing on to HMRC.

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

It's just happened to me, first they asked for invoices as proof of ownership of property I was selling, I did that to there surprise, then they come up with proof of delivery, Ive all used there own delivery options which auto supply tracking details, now I'm banned with no reason and they owe me about £250 pounds. It's madness no dialogue to understand and they are stealing millions

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

That's sounds terrible. It almost sounds like there must be more to it as that behaviour is not acceptable.
Funnily enough I have decided to sell my watches on the forums rather than eBay. This reaffirms the reason why. I'm just put off by eBay antics.

Seems strange that they'd ban you after supplying everything that they wanted, why did they do that?!

Anyway, they should pay you your £250 within 90 days? If they don't then start legal proceedings, will cost eBay more than £250, they can't steal from you what is yours!

'Anyway, they should pay you your £250 within 90 days?'.

The timeframe they quote is 170 days, not 90.

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

90 days was what I would consider a reasonable estimate. IMO 170 days is too long, you could probably go through the legal process and win a court case before the 170 days had finished...

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

The reason for it being that long is to cover themselves against potential chargebacks.

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

It seems that this time of year is ebays "open season" for holding seller's cash.  There have been a few more new complaints about Payment Holds and two threads from this time last year revived  in the last few days.

From what @petebream  said above it seems like ebay are also still holding money for one reason and when the seller gives the info. to answer that reason, ebay finds another reason to extend the Hold  --  just like last year.

Yesterday I replied to the "Identity Verification Failed - Funds on Hold" thread giving details of the FCA and how to complain to them if you think what ebay is doing constitutes financial misconduct.

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

First thing I do upon any discussion with anyone regarding anything on ebay is from the feedback - firstly as I am a seller are they a seller its important as if they are they would very soon realise its not an easy task.  So as a seller if I am dealing with them as my Buyer then they would have some empathy for both sides if they were a seller.

Firstly - just check feedback as a seller - you get it

Secondly -From their feedback left for others - Nasty pieces of work don't give pages and pages of good feedback for items they purchased so I know you livingterracotta ore not the person being suggested on here and how they have wrongly  got a handle on some seller that has sold so few items and make a judgement of them - the judgement criteria I use above will yeild the answer.  It did they are fine give them a break

Nasty people don't give pages of good feedback they give bad feedback even for good product - I been there many times believe me 57,000 sales. My criteria of judging works - you then follow it with gut feeling you have all the answers you need

all the best

Mike

Re: Ebay Refusing to pay your money

So if you look at my feedback  are you able to discern if I am a seller or buyer.

Constantly mentioning those 57,000 sales may come back to bite you.
