So if I sell a vinyl record to someone for £4 it will cost the buyer £4.85? What is this nonsense? It won't be worth selling small items after Feb 4th. EBay are going to lose 1000s of sellers and buyers.

People say all sorts to act professional and draw the attention of buyers, That does not mean just because they sell an item for £39.95 instead of £40.00 that they are a business !
As you and I know, there are lots of copycat sellers who copy the listings of some business sellers for their private sales... even eBay gives such an option when looking at a business seller's item it says "Have one to sell? Sell similar now"
Business sellers should not blame private sellers for their failing sales, they should blame over populated search results and an outdated Cassini search engine which is too restrictive in what it shows potential buyers browsing eBay...

With all due respect some of these rules are way over the top and ludicrous.
The forced managed delivery for private sellers was the last straw for me.
If I don't use eBay to sell on I don't need to follow these anti-seller and pro buyer rules any longer.
Good day eBay.

You are acting obtuse, you know exactly what I am on about.
They are trading full stop, they have admitted to buying from charity shops to resell, this is a business whether you want to acknowledge this or not.
Absolute drivel

For someone that hates the site so much you seem to spend a lot of time on here.
If was done with a company I wouldn't even dream of logging back on or even visiting the site at all.

People have to exist you know.
In this time and age, money is now very hard to come by, some of these people selling as "hobby traders" on eBay private accounts may be unwell and off work due to an accident or poor health... there is no need for such hostility and begrudge against POOR people simply trying to scrape a living and pay for their cost of living, as the prices of food and energy have really shot up compared to what it was before 2020.
If you like playing police, why not join the police and catch real criminals ?... instead of nit picking on helpless poor people just trying to put food on their table and keep a roof over their head....

Well I've suspended all but 2 auction items until this mess is sorted out.
In the meantime not ideal, but I'll be using Discogs.

Both of you, @Anonymous and @bittyboy101 are fully aware of the nuances of the rules.
There are no allowances for people doing it "for fun", because they "need the money", or because they are "unwell". Think about it for a second, and you'll realise how ridiculous those arguments are. (I "need the money", but I abide by the rules and trade on a business account.)
If these people were working, but taking cash-in-hand, you would recognise that they were breaking rules/laws. Trading on eBay is no different.
If they are trading, they should be on a business account.

Have you been following ebay's Charity Listing policy though?
If not, I don't think what you spend your income on is particularly relevant.

I'm genuinely bemused by the sheer hatred that these new buyer fees are getting from sellers.
Isn't it just emulating the success that Vinted managed to get doing it?
You don't get to pick how you send there much either, just unclick some carriers that you don't want to use, the buyer chooses and pays for their own shipping there just like I imagine "simple" delivery will be.
03-02-2025 3:29 PM - edited 03-02-2025 3:34 PM
It will be the same, a seller will be able to pick which carrier they prefer, the new pricing for simple delivery even stated that.
Different pricing may apply where you have chosen to opt-out of a carrier.
It will bring so many new sellers and buyers to the site, they are making it easier for them to sell, there must be 1000s and 1000s who want to sell on here but are put off because they don't know how to handle the shipping or don't have scales, some may not even have a tape measure - one of the most important things is getting the shipping right and a new seller may be terrified of this so opt to stay away.
03-02-2025 3:32 PM
Yeah I haven't really looked at it, because as a business seller I don't have to use it. But I've sold a couple of bits on the other site and honestly, it all seems pretty stress free, I got the price I wanted for my old tut even if it was a quid and shipping was easy enough apart from the terrible label printing formats they use that my printer doesn't seem to like

You get better postage direct to Yodel or Evri than buying it on eBay.
03-02-2025 3:56 PM
Marvellous as Clint Eastwood said.
03-02-2025 3:58 PM
Yes but I don't donate via eBay. There's no longer advantage in doing so.
03-02-2025 4:01 PM
No. You are allowed £1000 a year tax free. And you can tax deduct on charitable donations. Believe me I know a lot about charities.
03-02-2025 4:03 PM
"Simple delivery?" . EBay don't do simple. Why on earth should the buyer pick delivery?
Include P&P in your price.
03-02-2025 4:20 PM
I do.
But I can as a business seller, but why wouldn't the buyer want to pick a reliable delivery service they trust.
Lots of people for example won't use anything delivered by evri because it's dependant on how good your local driver is

Most private sellers with a grain of common sense allow change of mind returns even though they could turn off that setting. Why have an unhappy buyer force me to pay his return postage by claiming SNAD, when I could accept the return at his expense?
03-02-2025 6:21 PM
Some do, this one doesn't.
