EBay plan to add fees for buyers - hurts businesses even further

It seems clear ebay is following in the footsteps of other selling marketplaces by adding fees for buyers in the early new year,  but since fees remain in place for business sellers adding another fee on top of this is another hit to our bottom line.

We will now be expected to absorb the buyers fee and our own business selling fee (and shop fees etc).

This seems crazy to me - although eBay say it'll be 'small' , if it's 8% like elsewhere that's a massive hit for us to take.  Yes it's for the buyers but we all know prices will drop because of it - for example a 350 item will now cost 379 to the buyer with an 8% fee that is currently used by another platform, so ofc sellers will drop the initial price so that the item actually sells and to offset this.

Fine for private sellers who have no fees to compensate, but insane for business sellers with hefty fvf and shop fees already

Perfect description everywhere the only winner is eBay and there followers
. The little sellers buyers who were the bread and butter with eBay launch
and carried them for years . I was one of them in the uk . are now the
trodden ones. Loyalty is all lost now they are trying to force us out.
EBay says everyone will have no choice. If I do not like it having the
buyer sorting my postage out with eBay or simple delivery you know what to
do .such sad times eBay even though they will not say imagine a eBay site
with buyers needing protection to little sellers being pushed out

Reading the constant posts on this forum - sellers want insurance for anything sold for less than £20 - which simple delivery gives them - buyers already have insurance through the MBG  - the buyer fees seem to not only pay for the enhanced buyer protection but also the enhanced seller protection.

Now if you sell an item for £15 and it does not arrive no more forced refunds through an INR case  - ebay sort out the buyer and you keep the money !

Excuse me do not label all of us small sellers with the same brush maybe
you have met the bandits on eBay but then have you met the sellers who care
about there buyers I guess not
As for insurance if you sell of high value can you honestly tell me eBay
pack link are going to be fare.
Everything from simple delivery to buyers paying 4% of the value of there
purchases .not one cost for all .eBay wins no matter whether we moan or not
EBay is destroying us all for profit and turning us against each other. Yes
there are bad sellers but do not pull the wool over every one as buyers
have played the sellers as well .
When simple delivery is no choice do you believe eBay when they say we will
look after buyers and keep hold of the sellers monies till etc etc .if you
think this way .why stay on eBay .eBay is made up of many pieces and that
means small sellers and buyers as well as the big boys and you

All of ebay's policies are one glove fits all - there is no other way - How would you propose ebay adopted an individual bespoke policy for each and every member ?

They do apply restrictions, penalties to those who abuse policies but by the virtue of volume it is an impossible task. 

So like everything ebay  they look for a solution that fits most members, which is determined by volume of satisfaction / dissatisfaction from members.

The volume of dissatisfaction is  that sellers feel INR cases are unfair because they automatically refund buyers regardless of whether a seller posts the item due to lack of delivery confirmation,

Sellers claim that they do not post on time because they have to have the cleared funds to buy the postage causing a flood of dissatisfied buyers complaining to ebay.

Ebay react by introducing a system that makes sellers use a tracked service paid by the buyer and once the item enters the postal system ebay takes responsibility for delivery and damage in transit guaranteeing the seller payment at no cost to the seller yet  you see this as a bad thing ?

A non professional seller of personal unwanted items - has not got to worry about measuring, postage, lost items, damaged items or payment, they have absolutely zero costs and yes may have to wait a few days before they get the sale proceeds but they are guaranteed.

I don't get it what disadvantage does that give a seller ? 

You want to use a different service ? you can even when it becomes compulsory if you really want to but you lose the enhanced protection - so if you want to send untracked you can but when it does not arrive on time you lose your money.

You can send by a different carrier tracked and when it gets damaged - you refund the buyer. 

What is the advantage in that ?

EBay are saying there will be no item not received cases as eBay and the
buyer are taking over the label and couriers .the buyer having 3 choices to
choose from that says it all. Cheap cheap and it’s EVRI for gods sake
.they must think we are stupid they will not give are money to us until
the item has arrived ..no matter what the fancy talking is
They also say we are covered from the buyer wanting there money back broke
or missing . With pack link in charge god help us again
With valuable items insurance is needed pack link are rubbing there hands

Good news for sellers with the withdrawal of INR cases and if your dolls require a service not offered by simple delivery - you need to check the carrier and ebays terms and conditions  to make sure they do not adequately cover the item value or type then they should be exempt from Simple delivery.

However if it is just a personal preference you can simply refuse to use the simple delivery label and use your own. If you do this the buyer will be refunded the label cost and you will have to pay for the preferred delivery by adding it into your price when listing.

The end result will be the same for the buyer regarding delivery cost but it is a messy way of going about it and would need a well worded message to buyers when they purchase which will not be without problems.

If your Dolls conform to the simple delivery terms and conditions, carrier and ebay and the buyer chooses Evri by default  and Evri fail to deliver or break the doll - your funds remain untouched and ebay pay up to the buyer.

The only downside with this is if Evri lose or break too many items you may lose repeat business - again a well worded advisory message may help in the listing - even perhaps an offer to upgrade the delivery FOC  or offer Free Delivery which I believe may opt you out of Simple Delivery completely, somebody might be able to clarify whether this is true or not ? 

Personally Evri are great in our area - we never have a problem with deliveries breakages or losses - in fact the only deviation we get with our deliveries are they are often delivered the evening before by the driver who he says helps him get all his deliveries out on time - he did explain but it went in one ear and out the other !

Antiques of any form or breakables are not cover for breakages only loss
with every courier .thats why when I sell a doll my chosen courier
deliveries next day and insured for loss
If I try and use eBay packlink is double the cost of insurance.
My packing skills are perfect against any lumps and bumps .but why Evri
they can not be trusted and take so long to deliver.
When I am a buyer I ask for a different courier
Service which the seller is kind enough to sort for me if they are saying
Evri .some places have no trouble with Evri and for anything of no value
they are ok. But that’s no guarantee

Great in theory, but it doesn't work as is the case on V*nt*d when there are delivery issues. The buyer ends up having to do a chargeback via their bank because the so called 'extra protection' insurance fee and system doesn't work! The extra eBay fee should also include 24/7 live help, which it doesn't as I've found out for 2 of the 3 times I needed to contact / speak with someone between Midnight and 4am in the morning - Need I really say more?

Obviously the new eBay Private Seller Fee format hasn't helped eBay business sellers who now seem to be piling onto V*int*d which isn't a site for business sellers, and yes, you've guessed it, people have stopped buying because they don't want to deal with or buy from business sellers. Private sellers have the goods in their hands and do not leave buyers hanging because items are out of stock and private sellers also prefer to communicate with their buyers, not leave buyers to be faced with having to use an automated AI programme that has as much personal warmth as the North Pole! 😒🙄🤢

Plus, online buyers are very savvy and Goo*le Sh*pping is an excellent tool for online discounted shopping 😉

As eBay have yet again disappointed their share holders with another set of negative quarterly results, they had to come up with something to increase profit margins, but have well and truely shot themselves in the foot this time........

Overall sales will slow / get slower to non-existent proportions as people refuse to dance the eBay dance , and especially so when being fleeced for more money as a buyer, for nothing!

The holding of privatesellers funds in order to ensure delivery and a private seller having to wait 2 days after recordered delivery to receive their payment(s) is ridiculous as the MBG covers all buyers against not receiving their items while eBay gather interest on monies held for 4-7 days - Oh, the share holders will be please - YAWN!

Is there an app that calculates the price if you want the sale price for the buyer to be, say £9.95? 

Right now it's slow going, I've managed to change 10% of my listings so far by setting the cost as I see it at a very odd figure and guessing that a few times until it comes out right. Otherwise, it just shows a silly price for the buyer and too much in some cases, for lower priced items. It's very time consuming and awkward. Why there's no button to press to get a decent retail-like price is ridiculous!

Ebay's point is that only business accounts should be worrying about 'business like' things.....

Somebody did post a very nicely formatted chart for getting prices ending in .99, .00, and .50, from £1 to ever so bigly, but I can't recall which thread that was in, sorry.

Assuming you have a spreadsheet handy you can do it yourself.

If sell price S is (Y * 1.04) + 0.75, where Y is your price, then rearrange it:  Y = (S - 0.75) / 1.04

Create a spreadsheet with column A containing all the prices you're likely to want (don't do that longhand, after you've entered, say £1 and made the cell below =(A1 + 1) you can extend it downwards in one drag.

Put =(A1-0.75)/1.04 in cell B1.  Another drag.  Job done.

It would be useful, especially as ebay don't tell you the total charges upfront anyway (of course it's all 'clearly' embedded somewhere in the T&C's for your particular country!).
