EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I haven’t had to offer my stuff for almost nothing but since it came in I have had to make an obvious show of paying the BPF ‘for’ the buyer by reducing the item for them by that amount once interest is shown.

One of them then didn’t go ahead because a BPF was still showing on the lower amount and what they wanted was for me to just remove the fee so they couldn’t see it. I can’t be bothered playing ebay’s games any more.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I agree, it's now so simple I cannot sell anything on eBay anymore as a private seller.  Well done eBay, yet another change to screw over sellers.  Looking at other websites now...

Yeah, the BPF has a lot in common with the psychological 'free' postage trick 😂.

Most people know nothing in life is actually free, but if you tell somebody they're paying for an extra thingy, instead of hiding it in the price, they'll be less interested in buying it.....

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

It makes the difference when you sell useful, but inexpensive items of 3cm
height, that* must* be tracked at shoe-box sized shipping and, like it or
not, the buyer *must* 'benefit' from BPF at 25% of the item cost.

how do i get off this thread?!

This thread is beginning to remind me of the introduction of Royal Mail's 'pricing in proportion'. There were losers at the cut-off dimensions and it took everyone a good year to get used to it.

'huh?'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I meant: what has your reply to me (about 3cms high items) got to do with the psychological effect of 'free' postage?

And ; why are you 'trapped' on this thread?

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I think your confusion arises from the fact that you offer free shipping,
shielding your buyers from recent changes.

Wheras, i explained how recent changes have affected the items that i can
sell, killing sales on 'nominal' items.

you're welcome.

Hmmmm... more confusion ahoy!

I have *no* sales listings up at all ; free shipping or otherwise.... since Feb.

Haven't you noticed how many sellers are er.... 'taking a break' while the S.D. dog's dinner sorts itself out?(one way or another)

And if you feel this thread is 'trapping' you, you're more than welcome to go and find another one with contributors you feel more at home with...😊

I just put everything in a really big box and choose 3 day courier as my post pref. No simple delivery just my choice.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I did some research on the changes they introduced,  and have to agree that I do not think it fair on sellers or buyers that they forced to be charged extra for so called cover, leaving no choice,  and sellers having to wait longer for payment.  I have not sold on here for ages, only bought things. But I do not feel inclined to do so with the way the site is being run. Don't know if it comes under trading standards, as they are a business which sets its own rules.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I was a long-time buyer, only and started selling in late 2024.

It's constant change, since then but, ebay have shifted their fees from
sellers to buyers.

They're not dumb - they can crunch the numbers.

My point was that ebay have chosen to wipe out a whole layer of sales on
nominal items - community stuff, if you will - by including them in some of
the recent changes.

They could've excluded smaller items but, i guess it doesn't do to complain.

I have changed my focus to large, heavy, expensive items, as a cope.

On the whole and, apart from the smaller items that i'm now stuck with, i
suppose they've done me a favor.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

At least until ebay crunches the numbers again and realises that you're making more than they are on your sales.

Then they'll come up with a way to redress that and then it'll be your turn to either work for ebay or get thrown under a bus.

Remember ebays 'focus' is not on cheap stuff, old stuff or even large heavy stuff.  Their eyes are fixed on $6,000+ luxury trainers, handbags and watches.

Got any of them to replace your wares with next time?

Could always quadruple asking prices and tick the re-list box every 6

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Strangely I've been thinking about doing something like that.

Not because I want to sell anything and risk sending it while the chaos persists.

But because I've had a couple of nasty comments in reply to my criticism of ebay, along the lines of : Why are you here.  What's it got to do with you.  You haven't got anything for sale.

Just like hundreds of others at the moment.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

i only commented to see whether there was some group of 'superebayers',
communicating with ebay, as they improve the site.

But, i find that, like so many sites (reddit), there's a 'bucket of crabs'
mentality, about the comments, and next-to-no prospect of us being
considered in ebay's decision-making.

Absolutely! 👍

I want to see how this all unfolds, I want to know *how* it works, *if* it's going to work, or even if there are any buyers left at the end of this mess.

But I'm not flippin' listing things whilst it's all upside down!
