EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

O yes they do. One waited three weeks. Latest, sent by special delivery, still waiting after two weeks. No apparent reason.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

And don't forget about international sales!

I sell lots of coins to collectors around the world, and now I have to wait for at least 2 weeks for an item to be shipped and the inevitable slow scrutinizing process at customs and then a further 2 days after successful delivery before I finally receive the proceeds from the sale.

Not a good system at all.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Seems to me that with this anti seller attitude ebay has taken on, there is now an opening for some smart person to create a new selling platform, not dissimilar to the original ebay, that makes things equally safe (and fun) for both buyers and sellers.  I'm going to take down my few listings (nobody views any more anyway so....) and look for another platform.  Huge shame.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

This is a really good point!

I'm surprised that a multi-billionaire like Elon Musk or Bill Gates hasn't got in and taken on Ebay or even taken OVER the platform! If Musk can buy Twitter, then someone please ask him to buy Ebay and maybe he will make it a more equitable platform for everyone.

You really think that if Musk owned ebay it would be better????

It might be better for collectors of Nazi memorabilia. Musk doesn't seem to have any issues with that stuff so he'd probably allow it and tell everyone to sod off.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Its almost unanimous here that people are far from happy about the changes Ebay have put in place after a very brief shortlived  'Honeymoon' period that made it worth while using the platform.

Competition, it is out there but not on the scale of Ebay, I have always thought it did need a competitor on the same level to rein in the ever burgeoning mind boggling,  confusing Ebay small print and % rake off.

This current transaction retention 'User agreement' has attached a high risk and gamble to any seller,  there are too many out there always ready to take advantage especially if you have an obliging nature as I have found during my quite small number of sales over 20 years, an unsavoury attack on my integrity.

Wonder if others have picked up on this snippet I picked out of an Ebay small print 'Agreement'  ..........

eBay is not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. The contract for the sale is directly between buyer and seller. eBay is not a party to the transaction and is not a traditional auctioneer. Unless through limited programmes such as eBay Authenticity Guarantee, eBay does not have possession of anything listed or sold through eBay.

.................  due out 17/03/2025 ...  I'm asking does appear if it contradicts itself ????.

AJ.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

BPF definitely changes the way interacts with transactions.

And as you cannot buy an item with BPF applied directly without paying eBay for the BPF it's no longer direct. They've stuck themselves in the middle.

Without payment of BPF, no transaction can take place.

Why they even have legal threats regarding workarounds.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Yes the contract is between the primary - the seller and buyer - the  item is still under ownership by the seller until it reaches the buyer safely.  Hence why with postal services ( direct) the seller could make a claim for damage or loss of parcels and make right with the buyer if needs be without eBay interference unless using their MBG.   eBay is a third party charging for the use of the platform,  and  "overseeing"  if you like, until the primary contract is completed successfully.

In my opinion they are acting like an  " arbitrator" because they are anticipating " disputes"... and so  by agreeing to their new terms you are allowing them now to " control" the process and the outcome of the transaction. ie funds held,  SD -postal service choice - eBay labels, decisions over claims, BPF, EDD's, etc.

Edit - spelling.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

There is already one out there they just don't advertise it even started before Ebay. Low seller fees, post your way, no buyer fees, four letter word starts with E and ends with D. And your money into Paypal immediately.

Yes that's what gave me a good laugh, also it says they recommend things that we don't have to do

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

New rules out today changed again + "buyers and sellers can save up to 20% on postage if allowing both options of RM and Evri in simple delivery" in other words they will charge more if you only allow one option which confirms what i have been telling people

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Today's update still says (in the FAQs) that you can opt out of SD.

Long may it last!

Oh really, I haven't found anything remotely resembling how ebay used to operate.  Any clues gratefully received 😊

Yes and the buyer will pay more if you opt out of one of them now it says the buyer will save up to 20% on postage costs if both are given as options so they are going to add money on to the one that you have chosen

'... they are going to add money on to the one that you have chosen'

 It doesn't say that!

What a strange comment, it states.

"Simple Delivery is an all-in-one delivery solution, designed to take the stress out of shipping for private sellers, with no more figuring out what service to use and prepaid and tracked labels that fully cover your item. Using Simple Delivery can also save you and your buyer up to 20% off postage costs, on average"

They are advising if you use SD it can be up to 20% cheaper because of the deals they have in place with the couriers.

Some are just trying to drum hysteria by posting false information.
