Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

Could not agree more and totally echoes my sentiments.

So so many feel the same way!! I can’t help but suspect though that they have factored this large response in and their models still score that they will benefit from it.
Only time will tell us they are correct or not!

"It's a green light to scammers everywhere and I will not leave myself open to a potential avalanche of false non delivery claims".
Why do you think there is any more risk now than there was before?
By the way the default position for these payment holds is 14 days to payment if no tracking, or tracking doesn't show delivery. Many sellers seem to miss that bit and think they will never get paid.

I still use Royal Mail when posting my items. That option is still available. But I've noticed I can no longer send a combined postage invoice. I used to enjoy selling on ebay but now I find it stressful. Seems now to be the only retail outlet on earth where the buyer receives their item before paying for it.

I've no idea what ebay does or doesn't do, but i will say what i have done and still do.
Place cash in a money market overnight fund, pays interest on a daily basis after midnight.......sure adds up.

So why the need to hold funds?

'Seems now to be the only retail outlet on earth where the buyer receives their item before paying for it.'

Well, no.
They buyer has paid for their item ; just not to you, yet.
They've paid ebay as a middle-man. Ebay will give you your money between 2 and 14 days later (depending on delivery confirmation or not..)
'But I've noticed I can no longer send a combined postage invoice.'
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, yes.
And just about everybody agrees that *is* the most ridiculous time-wasting backwards step by ebay.
(ebay have sometimes been saying it's a 'technical problem thet will be fixed' . And other times basically saying ' Because it's not compatilble with the New Rules, this is how it's going to be now'.. ... it'd be nice if it did get fixed, but the words 'Optimism' and 'Ebay ' don't often go together 🙁)

Hmm i may be moaning soon 😞 I have sold quite a few items lately so very happy with that. BUT one very collectible item now does appear to be on a dead server .......this is the 2nd time i have listed it and still next to no views 😞 Do Ebay now think "you have sold a few items lately so thats enough for the time being?".
Just seem a bit odd that this collectible listing appear to be dead.

The whole selling experience spoilt for private sellers , much better with selling fees as they were. It’s costing more now to sell small items as having to reduce ( dry small) profit to cover new buyers fees. Many sellers not rounding to new increased prices resulting in silly listed price points e.g. £7.01. £11.23 etc spoiling complete sections. EBay could not be more stupid and are ruining the brand, the Insurance Fee is putting off buyers who quite rightly think there must be something wrong if they need (buying) insurance.

I just don't understand why Ebay executives can't see this? Surely they must know that scammers do exist and thrive on exploiting rules and regs to their gain? I'm pretty sure every single seller has lost money to a scammer falsely claiming that an item did not arrive?
So if Ebay has now introduced and 'charged' buyers for a guarantee that already existed before their ridiculous and let's be honest 'repackaged' Buyers Protection fee; why can't they extend the same courtesy to sellers? Think about it... doesn't the very introduction of the new fee speak volumes about how little Ebay actually values Private Sellers? If they truly valued Private Sellers, then they would introduce a protection for us against scammers!
And on another point....
Does anyone know if the numbers of buyers for Private Seller sales has dropped significantly since the introduction of the new fee?

BINGO!
Think about it...
Ebay actually does us private sellers a favour for a change and removes selling fees, and for about 6 weeks we all had (hopefully) some good times right? But wait! Ebay gives with one hand and takes away with the other...they are a business and profit is their ONLY care....
Soooo.....
How do they replace the revenue lost from removal of selling fees?
Yep.... cleverly 'repackaged' Buyers Protection scam (oops! sorry fee) and potentially holding proceeds from a sale for up to 14 days.
If you think in the terms of millions being held before payout and invested in the very best financial investments, then I guarantee you that Ebay will make MORE money in their return on investments from holding sales proceeds than they did charging selling fees!

You might be wholly correct but either way, I must have missed something important…
Will you Post a link to the source of this, please?

The latter applies and it will not be coming back

I agree completely. I have been with eBay for twenty two years, and the new system baffles me completely. I only use special delivery, so why should a buyer be forced to pay for unneccesary protection. They also retain funds for three weeks, which is also un fair.
11-03-2025 8:12 AM
They do not retain funds for 3 weeks under the newish payment hold system.

My problem with Ebay holding the proceeds of our item sales is that we are at risk of being penalised for something beyond our control, i.e. the competence of the shipping company.
Think about it....
We sell something and do everything to the highest level of service; we use great packaging and we take to the post office or courier drop-off point on the same day! Would you all agree that most buyers would consider that first class customer service?
And then....
The postal worker forgets to zap a barcode and suddenly the item is not recorded as having been delivered.
So no matter how good a customer service one performs up to the point of handing over a parcel to the shipping company, it means absolute jack s**t to Ebay if the shipping agent are incompetent.
We are NOT rewarded in any fashion for superb packaging and dispatching on the same day as the sale, and instead potentially punished for the actions of a shipping agency which is something completely beyond our realm of influence.
It's totally ridiculous!
