been absolute nightmare. sold item on 30th Dec. rushed it out to a DPD drop off shop same day at about 18:00 who gave me a receipt.
then checked on 31st and no update. then on the 2nd no update still showing at coop. so called and was told that all parcels had been collected.
been back and fourth with the buyer who has now filed a refund request. buyer seems to buy and sell these items yet said they wanted it as a gift and have now bought another one and need the refund asap.
the problem is ebay said i should refund him before the 10th and packlink, who ebay use to supply me as a seller with the dpd label, have said they are launching and investigation which can take 30 days.
from what i can ascertain if i refund him and it turns up this week packlink could close the case and ebay will say theyve closed the refund and im sat here out of pocket by £500+.
what do i do to protect myself in this situation?

Ouch, that's a high value item to have in limbo. 😕
However, if you don't refund the buyer by the 10th they can ask eBay to step in after that date, who will force the refund. If that happens, you get a damaging defect against your selling account so there is no point letting it go past that date.
Is the item insured against loss for that value?

yeah paid £30 extra to packlink for insurance to cover full amount.

Great, there should be no issue then.

yes and no. if i refund the buyer and the courier finds it and delivers it after ive refunded the buyer, then he can potentially get a free product and ive lost £560. as ebay will close the case once i refund and packlink could close there end as theyve delivered it.

Does the tracking still show as no update, So according to that the item is still at the drop point?

Yes that could happen and ebay will then leave it to you to sort out with the buyer.

I would go back in person to the drop off shop and ask if your parcel is still there. (Calling head office they will just tell you what normally happens, not what is actually going on here - if your parcel hasn't been scanned then head office / customer services don't know anything more than you do). Last time I used DPD, and it was and will remain the last time, my parcel was still at the drop off shop a week later because apparently the DPD van was too full to take it every day (parcel was on the larger size but still within standard DPD size). I took the parcel back.
If your parcel is still at collection shop, insist on being given it back. Then you can refund your buyer, and chase Packlink for a label refund (they've not delivered the service you paid for) - bear in mind Packlink are so useless you may have to raise a chargeback with the card provider you purchased the label with.
If your parcel really isn't there, then all you can do is wait for any tracking update, but if the INR case deadline is reached you will have to refund the buyer. Otherwise, a buyer who is chasing you will escalate it after midnight/next morning and eBay will refund at your cost and withhold final value fees.
If in the meantime the item arrives then yes you will have a problem - Packlink will close their claim, eBay will tell you that you refunded the INR voluntarily. I have heard that if you hold off issuing the refund and eBay do it for you, then you can ask eBay to later reverse that refund if tracking proves delivery and they may do that. However, I have also heard that eBay will only grant an appeal if there is evidence that eBay made the wrong decision at the time - eBay refunding when tracking showed no update wouldn't be the wrong decision, so they may refuse to do anythign. So in my view it is better to refund voluntarily, get eBay fees back.
You would then have to try to arrange return or repayment of item from buyer. Most buyers should be cooperative if you offer return at your cost or a repayment minus something for their inconvenience. If not, you could as a last resort threaten them with a small claims case - they should not reasonably keep the item if they didn't pay for it.
Had you purchased the label directly from DPD you could also potentially get in contact with them and ask for the item to be redirected back to you if found again. However, as you purchased the label from Packlink the DPD phoneline will hang up on you, so I'm not sure if you can do that in this case.
Personally, I would not use Packlink for items of any significant value because involving another third party makes resolving any issues like this even more difficult.

i did chase the Coop last week and they said all the parcels had been collected.
this morning the tracking updated with this:
Hub 5 - Hinckley There's a delay with your parcel at our sortation facility
whats that mean?

Usually means short staffed through illness / holidays / unforeseen circumstances etc.
But assuming there is a delay at Hinckley, should eBays dynamic and highly
accurate EDDS have taken that into account.
Sarcasm pointed at eBay out the way, hope you get it sorted

the buyer no longer wants it even if it does turn up. they want a refund as they have bought one from another seller apparently. looking at there feedback it looks like they buy and sell similar items so i not sure why this is my problem. my listing had no returns on it.
im not keen for it to be sent back in case it gets lost or damaged in transit. and surely they should have waited until they were refunded by ebay rather than buy another one.
