Charges for buyer protection which you already have for Free. Is the legal in the UK ?

Have just received my first order of the  week  it's now Saturday  . 10 x 7" Used Records from my own collection Total £25.00 + Postage of  £2.19  + Buyer Protection Fees £7.48!  Taking the order total to £34.67.  Ebay this is a complete Rip Off  and can not continue in  it's present form, buyers ,will desert Ebay in their droves.  Have today informed my buyer I will refund him half the fees  after already reducing my postage by 50% and suggested he contacts Ebay to complain . I for one will no longer purchase anything on  Ebay which shows charges  for buyer protection  which I already have for FREE. Please bring back seller fees which are fair to both buyers and sellers.

Buyer Protection Fee on £25.00 sale should only be £1.75 max (£25 x 4% + 75p)

Looks like they have charged .75 for each record even though they were all  purchased from the same multi listing . Surely this is wrong?

They are a private company, ... 

It's like saying bring "fair wages," that can never really be 'fair '&* support investors profits etc. They'll do all they can to extract money from sellers  & I don't see UK state going after monopolies that facilitate this, a *more* fair thing would be a state funded marketplace but it's largely captured by these private corporations whose job it is to extract more & more, Until they ruin whole thing for everyone by such greed, &/or others finally get their act together & make alternatives. Normally how it goes.

This is how it should be according to FAQ's on Buyer Protection Fees page:

Item price set by the seller for multi-quantity listing (£2.50 per item, quantity = 10)

£25.00

Buyer Protection fee variable (4% of £2.50, x 10)

£1.00

Buyer Protection flat fee

£0.75

Price that buyer sees for the listing

£26.75 + postage

I suggest that you talk to CS. They may/may not be able to explain 🤔

The 4% of £25.00 is £1.00, as stated above.

That leaves £6.48 for the fixed fees. Unbelievably, eBay has made a mess of implementing the 75p fee, and it is only adding 72p at the moment.

The £6.48 is exactly equal to nine lots of the 72p fee. 

Were there only nine records, and not ten?

You can't have multi listings any more if a private seller so the 75p will be on each single item which my problem and why i have been bundling things together. Can never sell low value single items on here any more i know that and am not listing any more now buyers are afraid to buy and sellers afraid to sell

It is good that you have highlighted what extent the Buyers fees can mount up to if multiple items are purchased.  'Buyers fees' are using the Seller's Account to hoodwink the buyer.

arlier today spent 27mins  with CS  obviously working from home (dogs barking) The agent had to keep popping off to find out why the buyer was charged £7.48. He originally informed me  £6.48 was a service fee! which only the buyer can see he quickly retracted this and popped off again. Came back and confirmed the buyer protection fee was correct and this would be also returned to the buyer in the event of a problem.

Although the 10 singles were within one multi listing Ebay chargedthe buyer .75p for each title ,he explained if they were 10 of the same title the buyer would pay just .75p + 4%. The mind boggles

Yes i've never seen anything like this, am not listing any more now, will leave what's there in place. I think buyers are afraid to buy now and i don't blame them. Can't send offers have no idea what would happen, not sure if invoices will combine yet that wasn't working yesterday. As for auctions? i had 7 being watched but nothing came of it.

With offers I *think* if a buyer sends a private seller an offer and the seller accepts, ebay will take off the BPF and the seller gets the rest.

If a private seller sends an offer to a buyer the buyer sees the seller's offer plus the BPF.
