Hi,
I am trying to get absolute clarification on whether as a Business seller I am allowed to have a private account also & sell personal items on please.
I always used to sell any personal items on my Business account but since it is now free to sell for private accounts it seems only right that any personal items I want to sell should be sold on a private account.
I do not want to break any Ebay rules but I just cannot see how Ebay would be happy about somebody with a Business account also selling some items incurring no fees on another private account even though they are personal items & nothing to do with the business.
I would be very grateful if somebody could clarify this for me please.
Regards Julie

Yes, you can have both.
To add, my personal account has a different e mail address and is attached to my personal bank account.
Business one is attached to a business bank account.

The thing is I am so sceptical that because I opened this account after Ebay brought in no fees for private accounts it then looks like I have opened another account to avoid paying fees even though I think it is only right that I should not put personal items on a Business account now.

It's perfectly ok to have a personal account as well to sell your own unwanted possessions. It should be done this way so it is clear what belongs to the business and what doesn't.
Don't forget not to go over the £1000 trading allowance though each year.

I would upgrade this existing one (as it already has some feedback) to a business account.
Create a new private account to list your personal items on. Just sign up again with the same details but a different email address (each eBay account requires its own unique email address).

I am confused. You already have a private account, the one you are posting on.

I have another account which is my business account which I have been running for many years, this account is my private account which I want to know if I can sell my personal items on.

Yes this is the recently created private account which I want to sell my personal items on. I have another Business account which I have been running for many years.

Yes you can use this account for private sales

If this has been your buying account, it is perfect to use as your private selling account and you already have some feedback.

Ah, thanks for clarifying.
Yes, you can use this private account to sell your own personal items on, no problem.
If you haven't yet added your bank account to it, you may need to do so in order to receive payments:

You absolutely can have 2 accounts, just be aware though you'll need to declare the personal income on your tax return, but if you're under the threshold for that it'll not cause any trouble

What do you mean by 'personal income'?
The money from selling unwanted personal possessions on ebay goes nowhere near a tax return.

If you're Self Employed you should put all income down if you have a personal account and business, you shouldn't have to pay tax on it, but there's a reason ebay and V*nted, now send an income report to HMRC.

They want to know about it even if tax isn't due on it. Just in case you go a quid over your allowance probably
Whether you declare or not is entirely up to you though.

Thank you to everyone for your help with this.

Sellers who have a private account and are just listing their own personal bits and pieces such as items from their wardrobe/loft/garage etc are not required to complete a tax return for that account.
That's why there's nowhere on a tax return to mention the sale of your own personal possessions.

Yes, and you're right, BUT, the original question was about having both Business & Personal, not just personal which is why I mentioned it

If someone uses a business account for business and personal sales then they need to keep a record of the personal sales in case HMRC asks questions.
They do not declare them anywhere.
What does get complicated is that they can't claim the fees charged on the personal sales as an expense for tax purposes.

Yes you can although you must have the other account registered as your business account as this one is private.
One thing eBay there have been reports of ebay being over zealous so, may send you a message to transfer both accounts to business, tell them to jog on as at least one account can be for selling your own things.
