Buyer says item doesnt work

Hi, I sold an item which was an interactive toy. It's a few years old but not been used much. I thought I had checked it before posting but buyer says it doesn't do one thing its supposed to. I don't think in able to ask them to send a video so I'm just debating whether to ask for them to return item, or whether to just refund it as return postage will be more than what I sold the item for. The buyer is a reseller going by their profile so I'm hoping they are genuine about fault. I'm wondering whether to just ask for the item to be returned anyway before I refund it just so I can check it even though I will have to pay the extra postage. Does anyone have an opinion please?

I think you are likely to get advice both ways and it's really up to you.

Sounds to me like it was cheap and possibly faulty.  I would just refund.

If it is the toy you sold for £2, it is not worth the return as the postage will cost more. I would refund the buyer and put it down to experience.

Whatever happens, you are going to lose c£6. If you pay for return postage that then becomes c£10. Just refund and tell the buyer to keep it is my advice. Oh, and add the buyer to your blocked bidder list, in my opinion the buyer is petty if not dishonest.
