I see the Buyer Protection Fee has been added to our items for sale (not for the toys category yet).
I know that if someone opens a not-received case for an item and then rings Ebay, that Ebay will often refund them out of their own pocket. Thus encouraging people to be dishonest, knowing they can expect Ebay to fund their buying.
A 17.00 item becomes 18.40, this makes the item far harder to sell or compete will other websites. So are we meant to take the hit ourselves?

Note that if you issue a partial refund ebay will refund more that you issue rather that taking some from your funds and some from the BPF. I just issued a £4.03 part refund (a quarter of the payment inc BPF) but ebay gave the buyer £4.33. This was never explained in the refund process.

I have been on eBay since 2005 selling off personal items, most of which have been worn only once. Recently sold a dress £350 for just £50 but the buyer protection fees went on and the buyer took it out on me. I explained it’s not my doing but she felt I should absorb any fees, so I gave her free postage which was actually more than the fees!
she then put a comment about the worth of the item and that I didn’t price it taking fees into consideration so she paid more!! She left it positive
She paid less so I replied to say so but on a mail message she said ‘all true and accurate, would you like me to change it to negative? So sarcastic!! What is wrong with these nasty people. I’ve had 100% for many many years with lovely, comments but the buyers are getting worse ☹️

It is the buyer of cheap/er items who have stopped buying, they see a fee added to their purchase which gives them nothing in return -- it is of course a buyers premium in all but name

Just so you are aware, Vinted run the same Buyer Protection Fee. It’s where eBay got the idea!
it’s implemented better, but the logic is the same.

I have reduced nearly all my prices so that they are the same as before BPF (after all, I now pay no selling fee), and you would hope that buyers just judge the price they are paying, however it is made up, but psychologically they must resent a 'fee' apparently levied on them. Why, oh why, couldn't eBay have left a functioning system alone? Even so, possibly a worse killer of the sales of cheap items is the imposition of Simple Delivery (whoever pays it) at £2.72 (or even £3.38) when custom postage would have cost much less as a 2nd Large Letter.

It should be possible to cancel feedback about just the price, because the buyer chose to pay it.
