Best way to deal with a harrassing scammer

If not a scammer, then at the very least someone I want nothing to do with.

So this individual emails me asking for an additional photo of a listed item. They are very rude from the outset, and when I upload the photo to the listing they send an insulting message. So I block them and cancel their bids.

An hour later they bid on the same item (the same price, using a username identical aside from the last number - I know, what an Einstein). So I block that user too and cancel the bids.

An hour later I looked at my listings and I knew exactly what I'd find. A zero-feedback user registered today has bid the identical amount on the same item, and also on another. I reported all three of their accounts to Ebay but of course they'll do nothing.

It's likely they're a scammer, or are trying to win the auction then not pay, or intend to leave negative feedback to 'get even', but even if they're just some horrible scrote with no manners I will not be selling to them.

If I cancel these bids and block they'll just create another user immediately. There's no option to block buyers with zero feedback (thanks, Ebay) so all I can think of is to log in immediately before the listings end and clean up.

Is there a better option that anyone can suggest?

Personally I pull the listing and leave it for a few weeks, find it makes life easier

Would wait for more replies, pretty sure some will have a more proactive solution than mine

Re: Best way to deal with a harrassing scammer

I once sold an old valve radio with multiple pictures. Someone asked me to disassemble it and send them pictures of its inside. I refused. They then put in fantastic bid, won the auction and refused to pay, presumably to spite me. They did the same thing again on the next auction. I pulled it and sold it on Facebook.

When I've had bad vibes in the past I just pull the listing or cancel the order.

Relisting as a BIN can sort things out too.

Thanks. Yes, I'll relist as BIN in the event of any non-payments. If they win and pay then I'll cancel and refund, because no way am I dealing with this person.

Go to your settings and switch on "don't allow blocked buyers to contact me" then block them.

You can also select 'immediate payment' for your buy-it-now so might put them off.

Re: Best way to deal with a harrassing scammer

I find increasing the price as well has made me fell better,

I imagine the outrage it causes,  this a slight recompense for the faffing around they create

Unprofessional, maybe, but the increase gets rid of them

So, that seemed to work out OK. A literal last minute block seemed to solve the problem. All I then had to contend with were the bug-laden absurdities of the Ebay site itself.
