simple delivery

hello every one I have read the new postage simple delivery  for small private sellers like me and I am very concerned its going to be ebay who decides what courier they think I should use, and even more concerned the buyer will choose .this is hermes evri the worst couriers I have never known, I am selling my antique dolls and send them the quickest and safe with my choosen courier .fully insured and next day delivery which I have done with my items for over 17 yrs. I charge my buyers a set amount but if my box and packing goes over I pay the extra for peace of mind. and the thought of them being sent via hermes evri scares me and I would not trust them with a teddy bear, ebay must let me choose my own courier but I am told I have no choice, antiques no matter what must be sent in a manner they deserve and the simple delivery is not . simple delivery is just that for clothes shoes and not breakable .not for antiques and items of great value, I have had my dolls for over 50 years and simple delivery is not going to happen, I do not want to leave ebay but I will take my antiques some where else, so many great sellers have gone, but ebay does not take the time to ask why. ebay must look after the private sellers like me but I doubt it .the big boys are more important,

I like Evri, they're a lot quicker than Royal Mail and their tracking works.  I don't know what people's problem is with them.

Now if you said DX Express that'd be different...

You'll be glad to know that Royal Mail, your preferred courier, is the other option for Simple Delivery.

I had a knock on my door last week. When I went to answer, no one was there. I looked down the street and saw a man near a car half way down the street shouting over, "Bin! Bin!" Puzzled, I looked in my grey bin, which had just been emptied, and found a parcel from Evri. The parcel was not even addressed to me but to another neighbour. If I hadn't been in, I would have put my bin away, none the wiser, burying the parcel under rubbish for the next collection.

I’ve only used Evri twice for business parcels, and both experiences were negative. They broke one parcel and lost the other, or rather delivered it to the wrong address because the delivery guy could not deal with a block of flats, forcing me to refund the buyers. I won't be buying from eBay if Evri is the delivery option.

From my understanding it is an option  of 3 Evri, Yodal and Royal Mail.. for the Buyer to choose from?

For a short time sellers  can choose , ie opt out and/or choose custom postage prior to listing... but until further information is released, no one knows.  Then it will become mandatory?

Unfortunately the name portrays anything But " simple" for me.

It is just Royal Mail and Evri at the moment.  There is no mention of Yodel in either of the help pages and they aren't listed in the Annex of the actual Terms & Conditions, only Royal Mail and Evri.

Antiques are on their list of excluded items so I think it would be Royal Mail not Evri for your dolls.

Yodel is not currently one of the options for a courier with Simple Delivery

There isn't currently a list of exclusions for the new simple delivery that's coming this year.  They may, or may not, be the same.

It will all be about minimising risk to ebay though, so fragile items might still be excluded.

That's correct... but just to clarify that's the UK definition of "antique" - 100 years old - rather than the US 50 yrs

Actually there is a brief but not exhaustive list of prohibited items, which includes links to both the RM and Evri sites lists... follow the link and scroll down to "Restricted or prohibited items" and "Packaging guidelines"

I do not think, not that matters as in  Ebays world they do not care what you think but they should not be allowed to tell you or allow the buyer to tell you which postage option you use.

I have and will always use RM as for what I am selling off this is the best option for me and the buyer, apart from Overseas sales I always use stamps as I have pre purchased around 2 thirds of the stamps I require to ship the items sold out over the next 2 - 3 years, and as such protect the buyer and myself from any postage increases in 1st class stamps , so with this new Simple delivery I assume I will not be able to use these stamps as the buyer will pay direct and so probably have to pay more or have I misunderstood the proposed rules ?.

Umm Interesting as I could say that each Item I sell comes with a free Matchstick or 1p stamp 😀

Not really as it is the postal couriers eBay use who dictate the restricted items and that would be breaking their regulations even if free.

Is it though as you are allowed to send a stamp in the post to be used, so I suspect it is just eBay's interpretation of the rules.

Thank you for your message sorry as from the 4th of feb eBay controls
postage and simple delivery is mandatory Evri or Royal Mail and I am livid
that I have to put my items no matter what into the buyers hands taken from
vinted and all us private sellers will have 4% added to are listing price
so buyers have no shocks at check out . What about us the private sellers
who have been with eBay in rough times and good. Are we not important
now.I sell very fragile items and in boxes up to 48” long .to big for evri
and Royal Mail we have to trust the buyers choice b—————t I will not make
the sale for them.I have used parcel-force door to door service mostly over
17 yrs if need be now that’s taken away from me .the buyer has 3 choices
cheap medium cheap and express .my postage with insurance is over £25 will
they give me the right label I guess nope the cheaper post is just fine. I
would not trust Evri with a teddy bear no way .so who do I trust to post my
items yes it’s me and in the right courier and the right label.eBay should
leave the posting to us.and it’s a darn cheek to say these or nothing we
must except .and then we wait for confirmed delivery before we get paid
.this is for eBay’s interests . I will add free post to my listings and
charge accordingly .but that’s not fair to all but what’s fair for us
nothing .are items could take a while if we add ons but eBay will not worry
because there 4% will be added and will get it again no matter what .they
must back off ref to simple delivery and let us do the job because it’s are
items after all and I do not trust eBay buyer to give me the correct
postage and safety for my boxes

Just to clarify Simple Delivery will NOT be mandatory from 4th February and sellers will still be able to opt out when they create listings.  The CEO did say it would become mandatory in Q1, so by the end of March, but it is not one of the changes being made next month.

This is from the email everybody received this week - you do have to follow links etc. to find it.

It is in the FAQs

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/postage/simple-delivery

I really don't like the idea of the buyer rather than me choosing the postage option but I am going to wait and see what happens.

Thank you for your message yes I received that email and yes I read it.as a
buyer and a seller .feb 4th as a buyer now 4% added on my purchase as
vinted as a seller this will be added on before my listings go live by eBay
.as for mandatory simple delivery I do not care when it comes in to force
it will make no difference but it will .the postage will be dealt with by
eBay buyers who most have never sold a thing and do not know anything about
prices up or down .if it looks high they will lower it to donkey delivery.
and having Evri Royal Mail only most of my boxes are to heavy to long then
what they have for options .and the most important no collections being
discontinued being disabled this would impact my selling . being rural
makes it worse .In my view this has not been thought out .and over the
years Hermes Evri well I am not going to tell you how they have broke lost
and love a wall. No body can take over my boxes and I will have no say in
it. non breakables is one thing but my collections over the years I need
parcel-force door to door service or the like .then when I ask the buyer
for this service will they pay for that some will but most will not and say
it to much and will not . So I will be stuck with a box to big for either
.then what ?
