I posted an item using Ebay Simple Delivery. Evri first of all misplaced the parcel, then informed the buyer it had been 'destroyed beyond repair' in transit. Ebay refunded the purchase price but not the postage and protection costs. Why on earth should either the buyer or myself be out of pocket for Evri's grotesque incompetence? How does the buyer or I claim back the postage and protection costs?

I must say I thought it was always a full refund. You can try contacting ebay direct about it by requesting a callback on here:

You are the seller, you have your money from the sale. The buyer has to deal with ebay for refund and no matter how helpful you want to be, the buyer has to sort this themselves. Sellers have enough to deal with.

Hmmm that doesn't seem right to me. I don't see why either party has to lose out - and I don't see why Ebay can push Evri as a reliable service, when they are clearly useless!

No, apparently not. Ebay 'Simple Delivery' refunded the purchase price but not the postage and buyer protection, so the buyer has lost £4.65 on a £15 sale.

Who paid the postage originally?
Has the buyer made an item not received claim?

It seems to me that 'Simple delivery' and 'buyer protection' are just ebay scams, especially the 'buyer protection'. What is the point of paying for buyer protection, and is it compulsory?

It isn't clear from what you have said as to what exactly has happened here.
Did the buyer open an Item Not Received case on eBay? If so then eBay should have refunded the full amount paid by the buyer, including the BPF and postage, at no cost to you.
It sounds as though eBay has actually refunded you rather than the buyer for some reason, hence the missing BPF and postage.

Ebay has refunded the buyer and closed the case, but not refunded the postage costs nor the buyer protection. So she's out of pocket by around £4.65 on a £15.00 purchase. I've written to Evri, awaiting reply.

It would be eBay you need to deal with, not Evri. Try the earlier advice of requesting a call back.

So the buyer did open an Item Not Received case then?
Has eBay refunded the buyer themselves, as they should have done, or have they taken the refund from you for some reason?
If eBay has refunded the buyer themselves, and the refund is missing the BPF and postage, then it is the buyer that needs to take that up with eBay as the BPF and postage are nothing to do with you.
There won't be much point in you contacting Evri as contractually eBay are the deemed sender not you.

Hi @busterbboy ,
Thank you for your post.
If the buyer opened an Item not received case they would have been issued a full refund for the amount they paid. Click on the order details and down on the right hand side it should show what the buyer paid and the refund amount. The total amount usually includes the buyer protection fee and postage.
Thank you,
Kat

simple delivery takes care of all that!
buyer opens a case and all done, from experience not out of pocket.
Appart from the confusion over the 61cm length thing I really can not fault this sd system
it is as it says simple and saves time.
